Äitienpäivän aarteet

(FI)  Meillä on täällä ollut muutaman päivän ajan niin uskomattoman kesäinen ilma, että kaikki liikenevä aika on mennyt parveketta ja pihaa siistiessä, ja tänään on tietysti vietetty äitienpäivää. Perheen ihanat kakkuleipurisiskokset ryhtyivät puuhiin vasta aamulla, joten nautin kevyen (kahvia sisältävän!) aamupalan ja lähdin sen jälkeen pitkästä aikaa kirppikselle odottamaan kakun valmistumista. Myyjiä ja ostajia riitti hellepäivänä, ja vaikutti jo vähän siltä, etten löydä mitään kiinnostavaa, kunnes pysähdyin vanhemman rouvan myyntipöydän kohdalle ja äkkäsin tuttua suomalaista lasia. Sarpanevan Festivot ja Wirkkalan maljakko päätyivät kassiini suunnilleen siihen hintaan, jolla Suomessa saa yhden samanlaisen Festivon käytettynä. Erään myyjän laatikoista  pengoin esiin pari rouheaa keramiikkakuppia, ja kierroksen kruunasi italialaisen Anri Formin mielettömän upea tiikkikulho, josta myyjä pyysi kolme euroa. Uusi vintageaarteeni! Parhaat aarteet löytyivät kuitenkin kotoa, missä minua odottivat miehen valmistama lounas ja tytärten leipoma herkullinen mansikkakakku. <3 Hyvää äitienpäivän iltaa!

(IT)  Da qualche giorno il tempo è stato così bello ed estivo che abbiamo passato tutto il tempo possibile fuori a pulire e sistemare il balcone e il giardino, e oggi siamo naturalmente stati occupati con i festeggiamenti della festa della mamma. Le nostre belle pasticcere si sono messe al lavoro solo stamattina quindi dopo una colazione leggera (e caffè!) sono uscita per fare un giro al mercatino delle pulci. C'era tantissima gente, grazie alla giornata splendida, e all'inizio sembrava che non ci fosse nulla di interessante finché non mi sono fermata davanti al tavolo di una signora un po' più anziana e ho notato un po' di vetro finlandese. Ho acquistato due portacandele Festivo di Timo Sarpaneva e un vaso di Tapio Wirkkala all'incirca allo stesso prezzo che avrei preso solo un portacandele uguale di seconda mano in Finlandia. Nelle scatole di un venditore ho trovato un paio di belle ciotole di ceramica rustica e per finire bene il giro ho trovato a tre euro una bellissima ciotola in teak di Anri Form che è stata una ditta italiana. I tesori migliori mi aspettavano però a casa dove ho trovato pranzo preparato da mio marito e una torta con le fragole fatta dalle mie figlie. <3 Buona serata della festa della mamma!

(EN) The last days have been so warm and sunny that we have spent all the time cleaning and preparing the balcony and the garden for the summer, and today we have spent the day celebrating the Mother's Day. Our bakers started to work on the cake only this morning so after I had had a light breakfast (that included coffee!) I headed to the flea market. With such a perfect weather the place was full of people and it seemed like I wouldn't find anything interesting until I stopped in front of an older lady's stand and noticed some Finnish glass. I purchased two Festivo candle holders by Timo Sarpaneva and a vase by Tapio Wirkkala at about the same price that you pay for just one similar second hand candle holder in Finland. I also found a couple of rustic pottery bowls in one seller's boxes and the tour was topped off with a wonderful find, a beautiful teak bowl by Italian Anri Form I paid 3 euros for. Anyhow, the best treasures waited for me at home where I found lunch prepared by my husband and delicious strawberry cake baked and decorated by my daughters. <3 Have a wonderful Mother's Day evening!

Tanskalaista keramiikkaa

(FI) Äitini palasi tänään Suomeen puolitoista viikkoa kestäneen vierailun jälkeen ja muutenkin viime aikoina on ollut niin paljon ohjelmaa, etten ole ehtinyt juuri edes kirppikselle. Yhden kivan löydön olen sentään hiljattain tehnyt. Keramiikkavati on tanskalainen, tai niin ainakin tulkitsen sen pohjassa olevasta signeerauksesta, mutta tekijästä en saa mitään selvää. Onko teillä hyviä arvauksia nimen suhteen? Ihana vati on kuitenkin ja värityskin on kerrassaan ajankohtainen nyt, kun sininen tekee tuloaan sisustukseen oikein rytinällä.

(IT) Mia madre è tornata oggi in Finlandia dopo una visita di 10 giorni e anche altrimenti abbiamo avuto ultimamente tanti programmi che non ho quasi avuto tempo per andare al mercatino delle pulci. Ho comunque trovato una cosa molto bella di recente. La ciotola è ceramica danese o così ho almeno intrepretato dalla firma nel fondo. Invece il nome del ceramisca non lo capisco proprio. Sapete dire cosa potrebbe essere? In ogni caso la ciotola mi piace tanto e anche il colore blu della decorazione è molto attuale.

(EN) Today my mother returned to Finland after a 10 day visit and also otherwise I have been so busy lately that I haven't really had time to go to the flea market. Anyhow, there is one beautiful thing I have found quite recently. This handmade dish is danish or that's at least what I read in the signature but I really can't figure out the artist's name. Do you have any idea what it could be? I really love this dish and also the decoration is perfect now that the shades of blue have become quite trendy .

Kevään väri

(FI) Minua inspiroi juuri nyt keväällä luonnosta löytyvä hennon vaaleanvihreä väri. Ajattelin, ettei meiltä kotoa löydy mitään sen väristä, mutta sitten muistin Terraviivan kauniin koristelaatan ja lisäksi löysin komerosta yhden vihreän pellavalautasliinan. Kuvaan pääsi myös sunnuntainen kirppislöytö, kolme pientä lasipainoa, jotka ovat ilmeisesti peräisin vanhasta ranskalaisesta apteekista.

(IT) In questo momento mi ispira il colore verde chiaro che si trova nella natura in primavera. Pensavo che non avessimo nulla di quel colore a casa ma poi mi sono ricordata la piastrella decorativa di Terraviiva e inoltre ho trovato un tovagliolo di lino quasi dello stesso colore. Nella foto c'è anche un acquisto fatto domenica scorsa al mercatino delle pulci. I piccoli pesi di vetro provengono probabilmente da una farmacia francese.

(EN) At the moment I'm really inspired by the really light green colour you can find in the nature during the spring. I thought we don't have anything of that colour at home but then I remembered the decorative tile by Terraviiva and found also a linen napkin that has almost the same hue. In the picture there's also something I found on the flea market last Sunday. The small glass weighs come probably from a French pharmacy.

Uudistunut kirppistaulu

(FI) Kirjoitin viime kesänä kirpputorilta löytämästäni taulusta, jonka kehysratkaisua jäin silloin miettimään. Päädyimme lopulta vaihtamaan ainostaan kehyskartongin valkoiseen ja oikean kokoiseen ja säilyttämään alkuperäisen koristeellisen kehyksen. Jos tuo kullanväri alkaa kyllästyttää, aina on mahdollista tarttua kalkkimaalipurkkiin ja sutia kehys mustaksi. Toisaalta ruokasaliin on tulossa jossain vaiheessa messinkinen vintagekattokruunu, joten sikäli tuo kehyksen väri puolustaa paikkaansa. Nykyinen Susan Elon Fly-valaisin on kyllä kaunis, mutta sen valaistusteho ei valitettavasti oikein riitä pohjoisen puolella olevan isohkon huoneen valaisemiseen.

(IT) La scorsa estate ho scritto del quadro che ho trovato al mercatino delle pulci e che pensavo forse di far ricorniciare. Alla fine abbiamo fatto cambiare solo il passepartout a uno bianco e tagliato alle dimensioni giuste ma abbiamo tenuto la cornice originale. Se mi stanco della cornice dorata posso ancora verniciarla nera con vernice gessosa. D'altra parte dovremmo istallare nella sala da pranzo un lampadario vintage in ottone quindi il colore dovrebbe anche starci bene. Mi piace molto la lampada Fly di Susan Elo che abbiamo ora ma purtroppo non basta per illuminare bene la stanza che ha le finestre rivolte al nord.

(EN) Last summer I wrote about a lithograpy that I found on the flea market. I wasn't quite sure what I wanted to do with the frame but at the end we decided to change only the passepartout to a white one with the right dimensions and keep the original frame. If I get tired of the golden frame I can still paint it black with chalk paint. On the other hand we're going to have a vintage brass chandelier in the dining room so the colour might be a perfect match. I really like the Fly lamp by Susan Elo that we have now but it's just not sufficient for illuminating a big room with windows facing the north.

Ruskean sävyjä

(FI) Instagramissa on meneillään värihaaste, ja lauantain kahvikuvaa kuvatessa päivän väriksi valikoitui ruskea. Pyöreään maljakkoon katkaisin yhden lehden jouluruususta, joka sinnittelee yhä hengissä ja pääsee keväämmällä edellisvuotisten seuraksi kukkapenkkiin. Viimeisessä kuvassa onkin sitten koko kirpparilta löytyneiden ruskeiden savulasimaljakoitten kokoelma. Talven aikana kirppiksellä on tullut käytyä todella vähän, mutta eiköhän kirppiskausikin taas vähitellen kevään myötä käynnisty. Kävin eilen ensimmäistä kertaa ulkona oltuani lähes kaksi viikkoa flunssaisena kotona ja ulkoilma tuntui uskomattoman ihanalta. Huomenna voisikin siivoilla vähän puutarhaa kevätkuntoon!

(IT) Sto partecipando a un colour challenge su Instagram e quando ho scattato la foto del mio caffellatte del sabato ho deciso che il colore di oggi è marrone. Nel vaso rotondo ho messo una figlia della rosa di natale che è ancora viva e che pianterò più avanti nel giardino accanto a quelle degli anni precedenti. Nell'ultima foto c'è la mia collezione di vasi di vetro fumé marrone trovati al mercatino delle pulci. Nel periodo invernale sono andata al mercatino pochissimo ma riprenderò sicuramente di andarci con l'arrivo della primavera. Ieri sono uscita per la prima volta dopo essere rimasta chiusa in casa con il raffreddore per quasi due settimane e devo dire che l'aria di fuori è sembrata fantastica. Domani potrei fare un po' di pulizia di primavera nel giardino!

(EN) I'm partecipating to a colour challenge on Instagram and when I took the picture of my Saturday cup of coffee I decided that today's colour is brown. I put in the round vase a leaf I took from my Hellebore plant. It's still alive and I will plant it later in the garden next to the Hellebores from the previous years. In the last pictures you can see my collection of brown smoked glass vases, all from the local flea market. I haven't been going to the flea market during the winter but I'm pretty sure I will start going there again during the spring season. Yesterday I went out for the first time after almost two weeks at home with a flu and the fresh air felt really fantastic. Tomorrow I could actually do some spring cleaning in the garden!

Mustaa ja makeaa

(FI) Tummien sävyjen ja valkoisen kontrasti tyttärien karkkipäivän lakritsikipossa näytti niin herkulliselta, että yritin vangita saman tunnelman valokuviin, ennen kuin viimeisetkin namit ehdittiin syödä. Lightroomissa vielä lisäsin lopuksi vähän syvyyttä tummiin sävyihin. Mitä te pidätte tällaisista vähän erilaisista blogikuvista? Palapelin palan muotoinen kippo on kirppislöytö, jonka pohjassa lukee Porvoo. Noitapillejä ja liitulakuja taas löytää ihan paikallisesta ruokakaupasta. Tosin noitapillipussissa lukee, ettei sisältö sovi lapsille. :) Herkullista viikkonloppua!

(IT) Il contrasto delle sfumature scure e del bianco nella ciotola di liquirizia sembrava così interessante che ho provato di catturare la stessa atmosfera nelle foto prima che le caramelle comparissero tutte. Ho ancora aumentato la profondità dei colori scuri con Lightroom. Come vi sembrano queste foto un po' diverse del solito? La ciotola proviene dal mercatino delle pulci in Finlandia e sotto c'è scritto Porvoo. La liquirizia si trova invece qui al supermercato ma in una delle confezioni c'era scritto che le caramelle non siano adatti ai bambini. :) Buon fine settimana!

(EN) The contrast between the dark and white colours in my daughter's liquorice cup was so delicious that I tried to capture the mood also in pictures before all the candy was gone. At the end I added some deepness to the dark tones in Lightroom. Do you like this kind of blog pictures? I have found the black bowl at a flea market in Finland and in the bottom there's written Porvoo. The liquorice was bought from a local supermarket but one of the bags said that the candy wasn't suitable for children. :) Have a lovely weekend!

Keramiikkakäpy ja kaverit

(FI) Pelkistetyn graafinen ja mustavalkoinen sisustustyyli on alkanut kyllästyttää minua viime aikoina yhä enemmän, ja kun meidän olohuoneen vitriinikaapin väri muuttui mustaksi, huone kaipasi kipeästi vähän lämpimiä elementtejä mustan möhkäleen vastapainoksi. Apu löytyi matkatuliaisen, kirppislöydön ja parin pienen sisustuskauppahankinnan muodossa ja nyt olohuone ja etenkin sohvan nurkka on huomattavasti aiempaa kutsuvamman näköinen. Valkoisen keramiikkakävyn ostin Sisilian kuuluisasta keramiikkakaupungista Caltagironesta. Ihastuin valkoisiin käpyihin jo edellisellä reissulla ja tällä kertaa yksi käpy kulki kotiin matkalaukussa. Sunnuntain kirppispyörähdykseltä löysin eurolla puurasian, jonka sisällä tuli kaupanpäällisiksi kaksi pientä kerää virkkauslankaa ja pätkä virkattua pitsiä. Punainen kolmiokynttilänjalka ja valkoinen kääntömaljakko-kynttilänjalka olivat myöskin euron löytöjä, mutta ne jäivät vielä odottamaan käyttöä. Kotimme lähellä olevasta sisustusliike Summer Housesta löytynyt kaunis ruskeansävyinen lampaantalja ja harmaa samettityyny sekä kirppikseltä löytyneet messinkiset kynttilänjalat täydentävät uuden lämpimän tunnelman. Ei tarvinnut taaskaan ruveta vaihtamaan verhoja eikä maalaamaan seiniä ja kävyn ansiosta voin sanoa aloittaneeni jo kodin koristelun joulua varten.

(IT) Lo stile grafico tutto in bianco e nero comincia ad annoiarmi sempre di più e quando la vetrina nel nostro soggiorno è diventata nera era chiaro che ci volevano alcuni elementi più caldi per controbilanciare l'effetto del grande mobile nero. Ho trovato il rimedio nella forma di un souvenier di viaggio dalla Sicilia, un oggetto trovato al mercatino delle pulci e un paio di acquisti nuovi da un negozio di arredamento e ora il soggiorno e specialmente il divano sono molto più invitanti di prima. Ho comprato la pigna bianca in ceramica a Caltagirone. Mi sono innamorata di queste pigne già durante il viaggio precedente in Sicilia e ora ne ho portata una nella valigia. Domenica ho fatto un salto al mercatino delle pulci e ho trovato una vecchia scatola di legno a un euro. Dentro la scatola c'erano ancora due gomitoli di filo per uncinetto e anche un pezzo di pizzo fatto a mano. Il portacandele rosso a triangolo e quello biancho che girato è anche un minivaso per fiori sono pure costati un euro ciascuno ma non li sto usando per il momento. La pelle di pecora beige e il cuscino in velluto che ho trovato nel negozio di arredamento Summer House e i portacandele in ottone che provengono pure dai mercatini delle pulci completano il nuovo stile del soggiorno. Non ho dovuto cambiare tende ne imbiancare muri e grazie alla pigna posso pure dire che ho già iniziato a decorare la casa per natale.

(EN) I'm becoming more and more tired of the all black and white graphic interior style and when I painted our living room glass door cabinet black it was obvious that the room needed some warm elements to counterbalance the big black chunk. The remedy came in the form of a souvenir from Sicily, a flea market find and a couple of new things from an interior shop and now the living room and especially the couch are much more inviting. I bought the white ceramic cone from Sicily's famous ceramic town Caltagirone. I fell in love with these cones during our last trip to Sicily so this time a bought one home in my suitcase. Last Sunday I visited the local flea market and found an old wooden box for one euro. Inside the box there were still two balls of crocheting thread and some handmade lace. The triange shaped candlestick and the white candlestick that turned upside down is a small vase also cost one euro but I'm not using them for the moment. A beige sheepskin and a gray velvet cushion from the nearby interior shop Summer House and some old brass candlesticks from the flea market complete the new look. I didn't have to change the curtains or paint any walls and thanks to the cone I can now also say that I've started decorating our home for Christmas.

Ristelyarvonnan voittaja

(FI) Viking Linen ristelylahjakortti on arvottu ja tällä kertaa onni suosi nimimerkkiä Tiiti66. Paljon onnea ja mukavaa reissua voittajalle, jolle on jo lähtenyt sähköpostia! Kirppikseltä löytynyt savulasikulho, johon taittelin arpalipukkeet, on muuten Sven Palmqvistin Orreforsille suunnittelemaa Fuga-sarjaa, joka on voittanut Milanon Triennalen Gran Prix -palkinnon vuonna 1957. Onneksi reunassa oli tarra tallessa, niin selvisi tämäkin mielenkiintoinen seikka.

(IT) L'estrazione per il concorso è stata eseguita e la fortunata vincitrice del buono viaggio di Viking Line è Tiiti66. Ho già contattato la vincitrice via posta elettronica ma congratulazioni ancora e buon viaggio! A proposito, il vaso che ho usato per i bigliettini è progettato da Sven Palqvist per Orrefors e fa parte della serie Fuga che ha vinto il Gran Prix alla Triennale di Milano nel 1957. Ho scoperto tutto questo grazie all'adesivo rimasto attaccato al bordo del vaso.

(EN) The giveaway drawing has taken place and the lucky winner is Tiiti66. I have already contacted the winner via e-mail but congratulations again and have a nice trip! By the way, the thrifted smoked glass bowl I used for the lottery tickets was designed by Sven Palmqvist for Orrefors and it's part of the Fuga series that won the Gran Prix at the Milan Triennale of 1957. I found this out thanks to the sticker still attached to the bowl.

Taidetta (kirppu)torilta

(FI) Lähdin eilen kuopuksen kanssa reippaasti pyöräillen kirppikselle ja kuinkas sitten kävikään... Puolisen tuntia kierreltyämme soitin miehen hakemaan autolla suurenpuoleista ostosta, joka olisi ollut aika vaikea kuljettaa kotiin pyörän korissa. Bongasin nimittäin erään taidemyyjän pakettiauton vierestä Susanne Dittlerin hauskan numeroidun litografiatyön, jossa on taiteilijan poikkeava näkemys Bremenin symbolista eli soittoniekoista. Passepartout pitää kyllä vaihtaa, sillä sen vaaleankeltainen väri ei oikein miellytä silmää ja lisäksi aukko on niin suuri, että grafiikanlehden reunat pilkottavat siitä paikoitellen. Koristeellisen kehyksen ajattelin kuitenkin säilyttää, sillä se tuo mielenkiintoista kontrastia kotimme muuten suoralinjaiseen sisustukseen. Vai sopisiko mielestäsi työhön paremmin yksinkertainen valkoinen kehys?

Ai niin, hintaa tällä taidehankinnalla oli 20 euroa.

(IT) Ieri sono andata al mercatino delle pulci in bici con la secondogenita e indovinate che è successo... Quando avevamo girato per circa mezz'oretta ho telefonato a mio marito se poteva venire con la macchina a prendere un acquisto piuttosto grosso che sarebbe stato difficile portare a casa nel cestino della bici. Vedete, avevo visto accanto al furgone di un venditore d'arte una litografia di Susanne Dittler che rappresenta una rivisitazione del simbolo di Brema, cioè dei musicanti. Il passe-partout dev'essere cambiato perché non mi piace molto il colore giallino e anche perché l'apertura è un po' troppo grande e si vede in alcuni punti il bordo del foglio di grafica. Pensavo comunque di mantenere la cornice dorata perché crea un interessante contrasto con l'arredamento lineare della nostra casa. O secondo voi ci starebbe meglio una semplice cornice bianca?

Ah, dimenticavo... ho investito in quest'opera d'arte 20 euro.

(EN) Yesterday I went to the flea market by bike with our younger daughter and what happened... After half an hour or so I had to call my husband if he could come by car and pick up something that was too big to take back home in the bicycle basket. See, I had noticed behind an art seller's van a lithograpy by Susanne Dittler that represents a new interpretation of Bremen's symbol, the Town Musicians. The passepartout will have to be changed since I really don't like the pale yellow colour and also because the opening is a bit too big and you can see in some points the border of the lithography sheet. I'm thinking of keeping the golden frame, though, since it gives some interest and contrast to our simple and clean-lined interior. Or do you think that a simple white frame would look better?

Oh, I almost forgot... This lithography was a 20 euro investment.

Sunnuntaisaalis

(FI) Jälleen kerran täytyy todeta, että on tuo kirppiksellä käyminen palkitsevaa hommaa. Eilen haaviini tarttui uudenveroinen Richard Lindhin Arabialle suunnittelema kukkaruukku (1 euro), Iittalan iso Ego-kuppi (1,50 euroa) ja tiikkiset kalan muotoiset lasinaluset telineessä (1 euro). Ego-kuppi oli likainen ja pölyinen, mutta nyt pesun jälkeen se vaikuttaa ihan käyttämättömältä. Lasinaluset kaipaavat vielä öljyämistä, ennen kuin ne pääsevät käyttöön. Seuralaisenani ollut kuopus halusi ostaa itselleen yhden alimmassa kuvassa näkyvän pikkulautasen, mutta myyjä myi mieluummin 60 sentillä koko setin, johon kuuluu kuusi pientä ja yksi iso lautanen. Täytyy tunnustaa, että olen aina ihmetellyt, mihin tarkoitukseen nuo halkaisijaltaan alle kymmensenttiset lautaset on tarkoitettu, mutta internetistä sekin tieto löytyi. Jatkossa meillä osataan tarjoilla suklaakonvehdit ja muut pikkuherkut asianmukaisen tyylikkäästi.

(IT) Ancora una volta è stato dimostrato che vale proprio la pena andare al mercatino delle pulci. Ieri ho portato a casa un vaso per fiori vintage di Arabia, design Richard Lindh (1 euro), una tazza grande della serie Ego di Iittala (1,50 euro) e un set di sottobicchieri a forma di pesce in legno di teak (1 euro). La tazza era molto sporca e polverosa ma ora che l'ho lavata sembra proprio nuova. I sottobicchieri devono ancora essere trattati con olio prima di prenderli in uso. La secondogenita che mi ha accompagnata al mercatino voleva comprare uno dei piattini che si vedono nell'ultima foto ma il venditore ha preferito di vendere per 60 centesimi tutto il set che consiste di sei piattini e un piatto più grande. Devo confessare che non avevo mai capito a cosa servissero i piattini piccoli con il diametro sotto i dieci centimetri ma ho trovato la risposta su internet. Da ora in poi si servono i cioccolatini e altri dolcetti con stile anche a casa nostra.

(EN) Yesterday I noticed once again that it's worthwhile to visit flea markets. I ended up bringing home a vintage Arabia flower vase, design Richard Lindh, that looks like new (1 euro), a big Iittala Ego cup (1,50 euro) and a fish shaped teak coaster set (1 euro). The cup was pretty dirty and covered with dust but now that I've washed it it seems like it's never been used at all. The coasters still have to be treated with oil before use. My younger daughter who came with me wanted to buy one of the small plates in the last picture but the seller preferred to sell the whole set that consists of six small plates and one bigger plate for 60 cents. I have to admit I had never understood the purpose of the small plates with a max. 10 cm diameter but the answer was waiting for me on the Internet. From now on we will serve chocolate pralines and other sweet treats with style.

Sohvapöydällä

(FI) Olohuoneen piristyksenä on tällä hetkellä jännittävän näköinen kaksivärinen hortensian kukka. Kukka löytyi lähikukkakaupasta ja vihreät suikalemaiset lehdet hain omalta pihalta. Valkoinen Lorenz Hutschenreutherin maljakko on peräisin tietenkin kirppikseltä.

(IT) Sul tavolino del soggiorno c'è ora un fiore di ortensia che ha un colore molto particolare. Io fiore è dal fioraio vicino e le sottili foglie verdi le ho prese dal nostro giardino. Il vaso bianco di Lorenz Hutschenreuther è dal mercatino delle pulci.

(EN) On the coffee table there's at the moment a hydrangea flower that has a really interesting colour. I found the flower at the nearby florist's and the thin green leaves are from our garden. The white Lorenz Hutschenreuther vase is from the flea market.

Kirsikanoksat ja liukuva matto

(FI) Löysin ison lasikannun pari viikkoa sitten kirppikseltä. Juomien tarjoiluun kannu ei todellakaan sovellu painonsa takia, mutta kukille tai oksille se on juuri sopivan kokoinen. Kuvissa näkyvät oksat ovat kirsikanoksia, jotka ovat juuri aloittamassa kukintaansa. Vaihdoin olohuoneeseen kokeeksi Ikean villamaton, koska kyllästyin viime syksynä täysin siihen, ettei Woodnotesin paperinarumatto pysynyt ojennuksessa liukkaalla laminaatilla. Ikävä kyllä tämä kokeilu tuotti vielä huonompia tuloksia, sillä matto liukuu lattialla kevyesti, ja sen ja sohvapöydän saa työntää takaisin paikoilleen aina sen jälkeen kun tyttäret ovat viettäneet aikaa olohuoneessa ja nostaneet jalkansa pöydän reunalle (mikä on tietysti kaiken lisäksi kielletty) tai vähän tanssahdelleet huoneessa. Täytyy ryhtyä metsästämään jostakin liukuestettä maton alle, jotta saan ulkonäöltäänkin rauhallisemman paperinarumaton takaisin käyttöön.

(IT) Ho trovato la brocca grande al mercatino delle pulci un paio di settimane fa. La brocca è troppo pesante per essere utilizzata per servire bibite ma funziona invece benissimo come vaso per fiori. Questi rami che stanno cominciando a fiorire sono di ciliegio. Ho provato a mettere il tappeto di lana di Ikea nel soggiorno perché in autunno mi sono stancata del tappeto di carta di Woodnotes che era sempre storto sul laminato scivoloso. Ora la situazione è ancora peggio, però, visto che questo tappeto scivola facilmente sul pavimento e devo spingere sia il tappeto che il tavolino nel loro posto ogni volta che le figlie hanno passato tempo sul divano e appoggiato i piedi sul tavolino (il che è naturalmente anche vietato) oppure ballato un po'. Devo cercare una protezione antiscivolo da mettere sotto il tappeto per poter riprendere in uso il tappeto di carta che rende la stanza anche visivamente più tranquilla.

(EN) I found a big glass jug at the flea market a couple of weeks ago. It's far too heavy to be used for serving drinks but works fine as a flower vase. Now it's full of cherry tree branches that are just starting to bloom. I tried to put the Ikea wool rug in the room because last autumn I got tired of the Woodnotes paper yarn carpet that wouldn't stay straight on the slippery laminate flooring. Now the situation is even worse since this wool rug slides easily on the floor and I have to push it and the coffee table back to their place every time the girls have spent time in the living room and put their feet on the table (that's forbidden of course) or danced a little. I have to find an anti-slip underlay to put under the carpet so I can bring back the paper yarn carpet that also gives the room a more serene look.

Narsissit ruukussa

(FI) Ruokapöydältä löytyy tällä hetkellä helmikuinen asetelma. Kynttilä muistuttaa vielä talvesta ja harmaa on varsin hallitseva väri ulkona pilvisinä päivinä, mutta vihreä tuo jo toivoa lähestyvästä keväästä. Sipuleista pitäisi aueta valkoisia mininarsisseja, mutta toistaiseksi on kyllä näkynyt pelkkiä lehtiä. Arabian kukkaruukku ja Hayn kynttilänjalka ovat peräisin kirppikseltä ja harmaa metallimaljakko löytyi lähisisustuskaupasta eli Summer Housesta.

(IT) Questa composizione di oggetti si trova ora sul tavolo da pranzo. La candela ricorda che febbraio è ancora un mese invernale e il grigio è il colore dominante fuori quando non c'è il sole ma il verde della pianta dice che la primavera sta per arrivare. I bulbi dovrebbero essere narcisi miniatura bianchi ma per il momento si vedono solo foglie. Il vaso nero di Arabia e il portacandela di Hay sono dal mercatino delle pulci e il vaso grigio l'ho trovato da Summer House, il negozio di arredamento qui vicino.

(EN) On our dining table there's this arrangement at the moment. The candle reminds that February is still a winter month and gray is mostly the colour you see outside but the green colour tells that spring is coming soon. The bulbs should be white miniature daffodils but for the moment I haven't seen anything but leaves. The black Arabia flower vase and the Hay candle holder are from the flea market and the gray vase is from the nearby home decor shop, Summer House.

Lukemista ja tekemistä

(FI) Kotona Saksassa ollaan jälleen, ja matkalaukkujen lisäksi pitäisi purkaa kaikki joulukoristeet pois kotia koristamasta, vaikka tuntuu siltä, että vastahan ne nostettiin esille. Joululoman kuvasaldo oli todella niukka, eikä kukaan joulukuvia varmaan enää haluaisikaan katsella, mutta ikuistin sentään Helsingin vuoden 2013 harmaan joulusään, joka ei muuttunut muuksi koko kaksiviikkoisen aikana. Pimeyden vastapainoksi vietimme onneksi monta mukavaa hetkeä ystävien ja sukulaisten seurassa.

Matkalaukkujen täytteenä tuli taas kirja poikineen, jottei lukeminen pääse loppumaan kesken, ja tiedossa on myös monta elokuvailtaa, koska esikoinen sai hartaasti toivomansa Harry Potter -leffaboksin. Siirryimme joululomalla vihdoin tablettitietokoneaikaan, kun vanha kannettava alkoi ennen joulua näyttää pahoja hyytymisen merkkejä, ja täytyy sanoa, että on tuo iPad kyllä kätevä kapistus. Tilasin heti itselleni sähköisen version Italian Elle Decorista, jota täällä Bremenissä ei löydä mistään, ja täytyy tutustua muuhunkin tarjolla olevaan lehtivalikoimaan, jos vaikka lehtipinot pysyisivät jatkossa vähän pienempinä. Hyvien kirppislöytöjen putki jatkuu näköjään myös tänä vuonna, sillä ostin heti vuoden alussa Fidasta eurolla mustan Hayn Lup-kynttilänjalan.

Meillä oli kotimatkalla vaihto Amsterdamissa ja nappasin lentokentän myymälästä mukaani alakuvassa näkyvän lehtipinon katseltavaksi. Keramiikkatyöt ovat lasten savityökurssin tuotoksia, jotka paljastuivat äidin joulupaketeista. Harmaa-vaaleanpunaiseen kulhoon tuli minusta hienot värit, ja ihan kuin tuossa valkoisessa rasiassa olisi vähän Kaj Franck -vaikutteita.

(IT) Siamo tornati a casa in Germania e oltre alle valigie dovremmo svuotare anche la casa dalle decorazioni di natale anche se mi sembra di averle messe appena ieri. Ho fatto veramente poche foto durante le vacanze e tutti saranno già anche stanchi di vedere foto di natale ma ho immortalato almeno il tempo che faceva nel natale 2013 a Helsinki e il tempo non è cambiato mai durante le due settimane di vacanza. Per fortuna abbiamo passato anche tanti momenti belli con amici e parenti nonostante il grigiore. 

Abbiamo messo nelle valigie tanti libri da leggere e nelle prossime settimane passeremo anche serate guardando i film di Harry Potter, visto che la primogenita ha ricevuto il box completo per natale. Durante le vacanze siamo diventati anche utenti di un tablet che sostituisce un computer portatile che non vuole più funzionare. Devo dire che è proprio pratico. Ho fatto subito l'abbonamento a Elle Decor Italia, visto che non si trova nelle edicole qui a Brema, e devo guardare anche l'offerta delle altre riviste perché potrebbe essere un modo per tenere sotto controllo le pile di riviste che tendono a crescere troppo. L'anno nuovo si è presentato subito come fortunato al mercatino delle pulci quando ho comprato un portacandele Lup di HAY al prezzo di un euro. 

Siamo tornati a casa via Amsterdam e ho comprato alcune riviste olandesi all'edicola dell'aeroporto. La ceramica è fatta dalle mie figlie al corso di ceramica e l'ho ricevuta come regalo di natale. Il colore grigio della ciotola mi piace molto e il contenitore sembra aver trovato ispirazione dal design essenziale di Kaj Franck.

(EN) We're back home in Germany again and in addition to the luggage we should empty the house from the Christmas decoration even though I feel like I only took it out yesterday. I didn't take almost any pictures during the holidays and I'm sure everyone's tired to see Christmas photos anyway, but at least I can show you what the weather was like in Helsinki during Christmas 2013 and during the rest of the two weeks we stayed there. However, we had a lovely time meeting our friends and family in spite of the gray weather.

We packed in our suitcases lots of books to read and since our older daughter finally got the complete Harry Potter film collection, we will have quite many cinema evenings at home in the near future. We finally entered the tablet era during the holidays, because our old laptop is a bit broken. I find the new iPad extremely handy and subscribed immediately to Elle Decor Italia that you can't find in the Bremen bookstalls. I'll have to check what other magazines are available since that might help keeping the magazine piles under control. January started well also at the flea market where I bought a HAY Lup candle holder for one euro.

We flew to Bremen via Amsterdam and I bought some Dutch home decor magazines at the airport. The pottery is done by my daughters and I received it for Christmas. I really like the colours of the pink and gray bowl and find that the white jar resembles somehow Kaj Franck's simple design.

Lauantain löytöjä

(FI) Aloitin lauantaiaamun tehden kuvalöytöjä Pinterestissä, ja koska homma liittyi Blogging Your Way -kurssiin, en suinkaan tuhlannut aikaani vaan voin sanoa olleeni ahkera opiskelija. Myöhemmin päivällä kävin pikaisesti kirppiksellä, jolta löysin kaksi tanskalaisen Bjørn Wiinbladin Rosenthalin Studio-Linelle suunnittelemaa kynttilänjalkaa. Kuvioita on ilmeisesti olemassa omansa joka vuodenajalle, mutta näiden aiheena on kesä ja talvi. Iltapäivällä ajelimme Ikeaan hakemaan tavaraa, jota ei tietenkään tällä hetkellä löytynyt hyllystä. Ostoslistalla kakkosena ollutta glögiä sentään oli tarjolla laatikkokaupalla ja mieleen muistui tavarataloa kierrellessä kaikkea muutakin tarpeellista, joten ei tarvinnut palata kotiin tyhjin käsin, kun kassin täytteenä oli muun muassa lautasliinoja, lahjapaperia  ja vaateripustimia. Tänään kodin täyttää pian piparin tuoksu ja ainakin yksi paperinen joulutähtikin olisi tarkoitus viritellä ikkunaan. Leppoisaa sunnuntaita!

(IT) Sabato mattina ho cercato belle foto su Pinterest e, siccome mi servivano per il corso Blogging Your Way, non ho perso tempo inutilmente ma posso dire che sono stata una brava studentessa. Più tardi ho fatto un salto al mercatino delle pulci e ho trovato due portacandela disegnati dal danese Bjørn Wiinblad per Rosethal Studio-Line. Le immagini su questi portacandela rappresentano estate e inverno quindi ci saranno ancora altre due per le altre stagioni. Nel pomeriggio siamo andati da Ikea a comprare una cosa che era esaurita nel momento. Fortunatamente sulla lista c'era anche vin brulé che non mancava e girando il negozio ci siamo ricordati anche di altre cose che servivano quindi alla fine siamo tornati a casa con un sacco pieno tra l'altro di tovaglioli, carta per regali e grucce. Oggi la nostra casa sarà invasa da profumo di biscotti allo zenzero e ho intenzione di appendere almeno una stella luminosa di carta alla finestra. Buona e rilassante domenica!

(EN) Saturday morning I searched for beautiful pictures on Pinterest and since the activity was related to the Blogging Your Way course it wasn't waste of time but I was studying hard every moment. Later on I visited the flea market and found two candle holders designed by danish Bjørn Wiinblad for Rosenthal Studio-Line. The pattern of these candle holders represents summer and winter so there must be two more patterns for the other two seasons. In the afternoon we went to Ikea to buy something that we found out was sold out. Luckily we had also mulled wine on our shopping list and in the store we remembered also other things we needed, so we didn't drive all the way down there for nothing but came back home with a bag full of napkins, gift wrap and hangers. Today our home will smell of gingerbread and I'm going to hang at least one paper star in a window. Have a nice relaxed Sunday!

Uusi kanava

Blogiuudistus jatkuu ja Ex-minimalistin tunnustuksia löytyy nyt myös facebookista. Facebook-linkki löytyy sivupalkista kohdasta Connect, josta pääsee myös katsomaan Pinterestiin kokoamiani inspiraatiokuvia. Blogissahan julkaisen pääasiassa vain itse ottamiani kuvia. (IT) Il blog continua a svilupparsi e ora le Confessioni di un'ex minimalista sono anche su facebook. Nella barra laterale a destra sotto il titolo Connect c'è un link diretto a facebook e anche a Pinterest dove ho raccolto foto che mi ispirano. Qui nel blog invece pubblico praticamente solo foto mie. Spero che vi piacciano questi cambiamenti! I fiori nella foto sono dal fioraio vicino e il vaso di Hutschenreuther è uno dei miei acquisti al mercatino delle pulci.

There's a link to facebook on the sidebar under Connect, as well as a link to Pinterest where I collect pictures that inspire me. Here on the blog I use almost entirely my own photos. I hope that you like these changes! The flowers in the pictures are from the nearby flower shop and the Hutschenreuther vase is a recent flea market find.

Friedrichshain & Charlottenburgin linna

Sunnuntaina päätimme aloittaa päivän Berliinissä paikallisten tapaan brunssilla ja suuntasimme Friedrichshainin kaupunginosaan. Alueella on runsaasti brunssipaikkoja, ja viihtyisän näköisestä ravintola Cayetanosta löytyi meille sopivasti pöytä. Brunssi oli todella monipuolinen, ja lapsista oli ihan parasta, kun he saivat paistaa itse itselleen vohvelit. Brunssin jälkeen jatkoimme matkaa Boxhagener Platzin kirpputorille, joka kuhisi väkeä. Parhaat aarteet olivat jo varmaan siinä vaiheessa menneet, mutta oli silti kiva katsastaa pääkaupungin tarjontaa ja huomata, etteivät oman asuinkaupungin kirppikset kalpene yhtään sen rinnalla. Iltapäivällä huristelimme katsomaan Charlottenburgin linnaa ja sen upeaa puutarhaa, ja ennen kotimatkaa kävimme vielä tankkaamassa Kleine Orangerie -kahvilassa. Aika monipuolisesti tuli reissussa syötyä, kun ensimmäisen illan kiinalaisen jälkeen söimme seuraavana päivänä lounasta keskustassa italialaisessa Mare e Montissa, haukkasimme välipalaksi sushia (esikoisen herkkua) Checkpoint Charlien lähellä olevassa kahvilassa (en harmi kyllä muista kahvilan nimeä) ja illalla herkuttelimme vielä intialaisella ruoalla asunnon lähellä Schönebergin Goltzstrassella. Yritimme käydä Schönebergissä myös iranilaisessa ravintolassa, mutta siellä oli sillä hetkellä täyttä, ja vietnamilainenkin olisi vähän houkutellut, mutta jotain täytyi jättää myös ensi kertaan.

Domenica volevamo cominciare la nostra ultima giornata a Berlino come la gente locale e siamo andati nel quartiere di Friedrichshain dove ci sono tanti posti buoni per brunch. Abbiamo trovato un tavolo al ristorante Cayetano che sembrava proprio accogliente. C'erano tante cose buone da cui scegliere e alle bambine è piaciuto moltissimo poter cuocere i propri waffle. Dopo il brunch siamo andati a vedere il mercatino delle pulci in Boxhagener Platz. C'era tantissima gente e le cose migliore erano sicuramente già andate, ma era comunque bello notare che i mercatini di Brema non hanno nulla da vergognarsi paragonati a quello della capitale. Nel pomeriggio siamo andati a vedere il castello di Charlottenburg con il bellissimo giardino e prima di partire abbiamo ancora fatto merenda nella caffetteria Kleine Orangerie. Devo dire che abbiamo mangiato bene e anche cose molto diverse tra di loro durante la nostra gita a Berlino. Dopo il cinese della prima sera abbiamo pranzato al Mare e Monti in centro città, fatto merenda con sushi in un cafè vicino al Checkpoint Charlie e finito la seconda giornata con cena in un ristorante indiano in Goltzstrasse in Schöneberg (purtroppo non mi ricordo il nome del cafè e del ristorante indiano). Abbiamo cercato di mangiare anche al ristorante iraniano ma non c'era posto e avrei voluto provare anche la cucina vietnamita ma meglio lasciare qualcosa anche alla prossima visita.

On Sunday we wanted to start our last day in Berlin like the locals and headed to Friedrichshain where you can find lots of brunch places. We got a table at a cozy looking restaurant called Cayetano that offered a very nice brunch buffet. If you ask our girls, the best thing was being able to cook their own waffles. After brunch we visited the flea market on Boxhagener Platz. There were lots of people and the best things were probably already gone, but it was nice to see that the flea markets in Bremen are really good also good compared to the Berlin one. In the afternoon we drove to see the Charlottenburg castle and its beautiful garden and before leaving had a quick snack at the Kleine Orangerie. We did eat quite well and varied during this trip. After the first evening's Chinese we had Italian for lunch at Mare e Monti, sushi for snack in a cafe near Checkpoint Charlie (I'm afraid I don't remember the name of the cafe) and Indian for dinner at a restaurant in Goltzstrasse in Schöneberg. We tried to eat also at an Iranian restaurant but it was full and I would have liked to try the Vietnamese cuisine but we had to leave something also for the next visit.
