Friedrichshain & Charlottenburgin linna

Sunnuntaina päätimme aloittaa päivän Berliinissä paikallisten tapaan brunssilla ja suuntasimme Friedrichshainin kaupunginosaan. Alueella on runsaasti brunssipaikkoja, ja viihtyisän näköisestä ravintola Cayetanosta löytyi meille sopivasti pöytä. Brunssi oli todella monipuolinen, ja lapsista oli ihan parasta, kun he saivat paistaa itse itselleen vohvelit. Brunssin jälkeen jatkoimme matkaa Boxhagener Platzin kirpputorille, joka kuhisi väkeä. Parhaat aarteet olivat jo varmaan siinä vaiheessa menneet, mutta oli silti kiva katsastaa pääkaupungin tarjontaa ja huomata, etteivät oman asuinkaupungin kirppikset kalpene yhtään sen rinnalla. Iltapäivällä huristelimme katsomaan Charlottenburgin linnaa ja sen upeaa puutarhaa, ja ennen kotimatkaa kävimme vielä tankkaamassa Kleine Orangerie -kahvilassa. Aika monipuolisesti tuli reissussa syötyä, kun ensimmäisen illan kiinalaisen jälkeen söimme seuraavana päivänä lounasta keskustassa italialaisessa Mare e Montissa, haukkasimme välipalaksi sushia (esikoisen herkkua) Checkpoint Charlien lähellä olevassa kahvilassa (en harmi kyllä muista kahvilan nimeä) ja illalla herkuttelimme vielä intialaisella ruoalla asunnon lähellä Schönebergin Goltzstrassella. Yritimme käydä Schönebergissä myös iranilaisessa ravintolassa, mutta siellä oli sillä hetkellä täyttä, ja vietnamilainenkin olisi vähän houkutellut, mutta jotain täytyi jättää myös ensi kertaan.

Domenica volevamo cominciare la nostra ultima giornata a Berlino come la gente locale e siamo andati nel quartiere di Friedrichshain dove ci sono tanti posti buoni per brunch. Abbiamo trovato un tavolo al ristorante Cayetano che sembrava proprio accogliente. C'erano tante cose buone da cui scegliere e alle bambine è piaciuto moltissimo poter cuocere i propri waffle. Dopo il brunch siamo andati a vedere il mercatino delle pulci in Boxhagener Platz. C'era tantissima gente e le cose migliore erano sicuramente già andate, ma era comunque bello notare che i mercatini di Brema non hanno nulla da vergognarsi paragonati a quello della capitale. Nel pomeriggio siamo andati a vedere il castello di Charlottenburg con il bellissimo giardino e prima di partire abbiamo ancora fatto merenda nella caffetteria Kleine Orangerie. Devo dire che abbiamo mangiato bene e anche cose molto diverse tra di loro durante la nostra gita a Berlino. Dopo il cinese della prima sera abbiamo pranzato al Mare e Monti in centro città, fatto merenda con sushi in un cafè vicino al Checkpoint Charlie e finito la seconda giornata con cena in un ristorante indiano in Goltzstrasse in Schöneberg (purtroppo non mi ricordo il nome del cafè e del ristorante indiano). Abbiamo cercato di mangiare anche al ristorante iraniano ma non c'era posto e avrei voluto provare anche la cucina vietnamita ma meglio lasciare qualcosa anche alla prossima visita.

On Sunday we wanted to start our last day in Berlin like the locals and headed to Friedrichshain where you can find lots of brunch places. We got a table at a cozy looking restaurant called Cayetano that offered a very nice brunch buffet. If you ask our girls, the best thing was being able to cook their own waffles. After brunch we visited the flea market on Boxhagener Platz. There were lots of people and the best things were probably already gone, but it was nice to see that the flea markets in Bremen are really good also good compared to the Berlin one. In the afternoon we drove to see the Charlottenburg castle and its beautiful garden and before leaving had a quick snack at the Kleine Orangerie. We did eat quite well and varied during this trip. After the first evening's Chinese we had Italian for lunch at Mare e Monti, sushi for snack in a cafe near Checkpoint Charlie (I'm afraid I don't remember the name of the cafe) and Indian for dinner at a restaurant in Goltzstrasse in Schöneberg. We tried to eat also at an Iranian restaurant but it was full and I would have liked to try the Vietnamese cuisine but we had to leave something also for the next visit.

Mitte

Meidän oli tarkoitus aloittaa Berliinin keskustaan tutustuminen tv-tornista, mutta suunnitelma vähän muuttui, kun kuulimme ala-aulassa, että odotusta oli lipunoston jälkeen 2 tuntia 40 minuuttia. Pääsimme kuitenkin katsomaan kaupunkia ylhäältäpäin, kun kiipesimme tuomiokirkon torniin. Sen jälkeen kiersimme kaupunkia jalkaisin ihan iltaan asti ja pääsimme vielä päivän päätteeksi kuuntelemaan Brandenburger Torilla pidettyä konserttia. Valtavat rakennustyömaat välillä vähän vaikeuttivat liikkumista paikasta toiseen ja olisikin mielenkiintoista tietää, satuimmeko kaupunkiin vain huonolla hetkellä vai onko Berliini jatkuvasti muutostöiden kourissa. Joka tapauksessa pidimme kovasti kaupungista ja sen kansainvälisestä ilmapiiristä. Oli ihanan rentouttavaa kuulla ihmisten puhuvan muutakin kuin saksaa ;)

Pensavamo di iniziare il giro del centro a Berlino salendo sulla torre della televisione ma abbiamo cambiato programmi quando abbiamo sentito che avremmo dovuto aspettare 2 ore e 40 minuti dopo l'acquisto dei biglietti. Abbiamo comunque visto la città dall'altro quando siamo saliti alla torre del duomo. Dopo abbiamo girato la città a piedi fino alla sera e alla fine abbiamo pure sentito un po' del concerto che è stato organizzato accanto alla porta di Brandeburgo. C'erano tanti lavori in corso nelle varie parti di città e ciò rendeva gli spostamenti a volte un po' difficili. Chissà se a Berlino è sempre così? In ogni caso la città ci è piaciuta tanto, c'è davvero una bella atmosfera internazionale. Era proprio rilassante sentire la gente parlare in varie lingue e non solo in tedesco ;)

We wanted to start our tour in the center of Berlin from the TV tower but we decided to change the plan when we heard that there was a 2 hour 40 minute wait after buying the tickets. We got to see the city from above anyway when we climbed up to cathedral tower. After that we continued to walk around the city and even got to hear a concert by the Brandenburg Gate in the evening. There were lots of construction sites in the center and sometimes it was a bit difficult to move to one place to another. It would be interesting to know if this is normal in Berlin or did we just happen to go there in a bad moment. Anyway we liked the city and its international atmosphere a lot. It was really relaxing to hear people speak different languages and not only German ;)

Schöneberg

Majoituimme Berliinissä Schönebergissä sijaitsevaan huoneistoon. Aluevalinta osui ihan nappiin, sillä autolle löytyi helposti parkkipaikka, lähistöllä oli paljon kivoja kahviloita, ruokapaikkoja ja pikkukauppoja, ja silti oli todella rauhallista. Itse huoneisto ei ollut kummoinen, mutta eipä siellä juuri nukkumisen lisäksi aikaa vietettykään. Alueelta löytyi kiva matkakirjoihin erikoistunut kirjakauppa, josta olisi voinut viihtyä vaikka tuntikausia selailleen kiinnostavia kirjoja. Erään kirkon pihalla oli juuri alkamassa kurpitsafestivaali ja esillä oli vaikka millaisia erikoisia kurpitsalajikkeita. Ensimmäisenä iltana kävimme pitkästä aikaa syömässä kiinalaista ja sain eteeni noin kahden litran kulhollisen nuudelikeittoa. Lauantaiaamuna Winterfeldplatzilla oli myös houkutteleva tori, jonka läpi kuljimme matkalla metroasemalle. Harmi, ettei oikein kannattanut ostaa vihanneksia ja hedelmiä mukaan kaupungille. Kuvatkin torista jäivät ottamatta, kun huomio kiinnittyi sopivan aamukahvipaikan etsintään.

Abbiamo affittato a Berlino un appartamentino situato nella zona di Schöneberg e ci siamo trovati molto bene. Siamo riusciti a parcheggiare senza problemi e avevamo tanti caffè, ristoranti e piccoli negozi vicino eppure la zona era tranquillissima. L'appartamento non era un granché ma per dormire andava pure bene. Abbiamo trovato una simpatica libreria specializzata nei libri di viaggio dove sarei volentieri rimasta a sfogliare tutti i bei libri. C'era una fiera della zucca davanti a una chiesa e avevano esposto tantissimi tipi di zucche strane. La prima sera abbiamo mangiato cinese e mi hanno portato circa due litri di zuppa. Sabato mattina abbiamo attraversato il mercato su Winterfeldplatz mentre stavano andando alla fermata della metropolitana ma purtroppo non aveva senso comprare frutta e verdura da portare in giro. Non ho neanche fatto foto del mercato perché stavo solo cercando un posto simpatico per prendere un caffè.

We stayed in Berlin in a small apartment situated in Schöneberg and the we really liked the neighbourhood. We were able to park the car easily, there were lots of cafes, restaurants and small shops nearby but the area was still really quit and peaceful. The apartment wasn't so great but it was good enough for sleeping. We found a really nice bookstore that specializes in travel books and I could have spent hours just looking at all the nice books. There was a pumpkin festival in front of a church and you could see all kinds of strange pumpkins. The first evening we went to eat chinese and I got a two liter bowl full of soup. On Saturday morning we passed through the weekly market on Winterfeldplatz on our way to the subway and it was a pity not to buy some delicious looking fruit and vegetables. I didn't take any pictures of the market, though, since I was busy looking for a nice place to have my morning  cup of coffee.
