Tapio Wirkkala Venetsiassa

(FI) Tapio Wirkkalan syntymästä tuli 2.6. kuluneeksi tasan sata vuotta. Juhlapäivä meni valitettavasti täällä blogissa ohi Venetsian reissun takia, mutten minä miestä toki unohtanut, etenkin kun hän putkahteli vastaan kaupungissa tämän tästä. Fondazione Cinin järjestämässä suomalaista lasia käsittelevässä seminaarissa Wirkkalasta tietenkin puhuttiin ja upeassa näyttelyssä oli esillä useita hänen näyttäviä lasiteoksiaan, esimerkiksi alimman kuvan Pilkkiavanto-vati. Bolla-maljakot ikuistin käydessäni viimeisenä aamuna Muranon saarella sijaitsevassa lasimuseossa ja koruihin törmäsin ihan sattumalta, kun pistäydyin katsomaan Palazzo Nani Mocenigossa sijaitsevan Vitraria Glass +A -museon Precious-korunäyttelyä. Muun muassa Picasson, Damien Hirstin ja Anish Kapoorin suunnittelemien korujen keskeltä löysin yllättäen myös Wirkkalan Hopeakuu-riipuksen ja korvakorut. Palaan reissuun vielä täällä blogissa, mutta tässä on Wirkkalan designin ystäville muutama hyvä syy ruveta suunnittelemaan matkaa Venetsiaan!

(IT) Il 2 giugno è stato il centesimo anniversario della nascita di Tapio Wirkkala. L'evento non è purtroppo stato celebrato qui sul blog per il mio viaggio a Venezia ma non l'ho certo dimenticato, anche perché ho incontrato Wirkkala di continuo durante il mio soggiorno. Al convegno sul vetro finlandese, organizzato dalla Fondazione Cini si è naturalmente parlato di Wirkkala e alla bellissima mostra erano esposte varie delle sue opere in vetro, per esempio Pilkkiavanto (Buco nel ghiaccio) nell'ultima foto. I vasi Bolla li ho fotografati al Museo del vetro di Murano e i gioielli li ho visti per caso quando sono entrata nel Palazzo Nani Mocenigo per vedere la mostra di gioielli Precious del museo Vitraria Glass +A. Accanto a gioelli disegnati tra l'altro da Picasso, Damien Hirst e Anish Kapoor ho trovato per la mia sorpresa la collana e gli orecchini Hopeakuu (Luna d'argento) di Wirkkala. Parlerò ancora del mio viaggio sul blog ma ecco alcuni buoni motivi per gli amici del design di Wirkkala per fare un salto a Venezia!

(EN) On the 2nd of June was the 100th Anniversary of the Birth of Tapio Wirkkala. The day wasn't celebrated in any way here on the blog because of my trip to Venice but I can guarantee I didn't forget it, especially since I continued to bump into him around the city. Wirkkala's work was naturally discussed during the seminar on Finnish glass, organized by Fondazione Cini, and their beautiful exhibition showcased various of his stunning glass objects, for example Pilkkiavanto (Hole in the ice) in the last picture. I photographed the Bolla vases in the Murano Glass Museum and I saw the jewellery by accident when I entered the beautiful Palazzo Nani Mocenigo where Vitraria Glass +A Museum has at the moment a jewellery exhibition called Precious. Next to the jewellery designed by Picasso, Damien Hirst and Anish Kapoor just to mention a few names were to my surprise also Tapio Wirkkala's Hopeakuu (Silver Moon) pendant and earrings. I will tell you more about my trip in some other post but here's at least some reasons for all the Wirkkala fans to visit Venice.

Meidän Wirkkalat

Sar P Materian taju -blogista heitti muutama viikko sitten haasteen esitellä omasta kodista löytyvät Tapio Wirkkalan suunnittelemat esineet. Meillä on niitä itse asiassa aika vähän, mutta kokoelma kasvoi sentään hiljattain Rosethalin korkealla maljakolla, joka näkyy kuvissa takimmaisena. Hintaa maljakolla oli outoa kyllä vain kahdeksan euroa, vaikka kirppismyyjä tiesi sen valmistajan. MoMA:n kokoelmissa on saman sarjan matalampi maljakko. Valaisin on Artekista, Winterreise-maljakko samaten kirppikseltä ja karahvi Iittalan Iittalan myymälästä. Kirjan ostin EMMA-museossa vuonna 2009 olleesta Wirkkala-näyttelystä, jossa oli esillä toinen toistaan upeampia vaneriveistoksia.

Sar P dal blog Materian taju ha lanciato qualche settimana fa la sfida di mostrare tutti gli oggetti progettati da Tapio Wirkkala che ci sono a casa. Noi non ne abbiamo tanti ma la collezione è cresciuta di recente con il vaso bianco alto di Rosenthal che si vede nelle foto. Il venditore ne ha chiesto solo otto euro al mercatino delle pulci anche se conosceva il produttore. Nella collezione di MoMA c'è la versione più bassa dello stesso vaso. La lampada è da Artek, il vaso Winterreise anche dal mercatino e la caraffa dal negozio di Iittala a Iittala. Il libro l'ho comprato nel 2009 alla mostra di Wirkkala al museo EMMA dove c'erano tante statue bellissime fatte di compensato.

Sar P from the blog Materian taju started a few weeks ago a blog challange in which she asked to show all the things you have at home that have been designed by Tapio Wirkkala. We actually don't have that many but the collection grew recently with the white tall vase you can see in the picture. It only cost 8 euro on the flea market even though the seller knew the vase was made by Rosenthal. The smaller version of the same vase is part of the MoMA Collection. The lamp is from Artek, the Winterreise vase also from the flea market and the decanter from the Iittala shop in Iittala. I bought the book when I went to see the Wirkkala exhibition in EMMA museum in 2009. The exhibition concentrated on Wirkkala's wonderful plywood sculptures.

"Ei mitään"

Lähdin tänään kuopuksen kanssa kirpparikierrokselle tosi myöhään ja sanoin lähtiessä, ettei sieltä varmaan löydy enää mitään. No, toisin kävi. Nuket ja nallet saivat uuden hienon kiikkustuolin ja itse löysin messinkisen kynttilänjalkaparin, kolme lasimaljakkoa, valkoisen Tirschenreuthin kahvikannun ja Rosethalin Winterreise-maljakon. Kynttilänjalat kaipaavat vähän kiillotusta, mutta ovat ne nytkin jo hienot. Vähän jäi kyllä harmittamaan, kun tämä Tapio Wirkkalan suunnittelema maljakko jäi ostamatta. En tunnistanut sitä ja pidin kympin hintaa liian kovana.

Oggi sono partita molto tardi con la secondagenita per fare un giro al mercatino delle pulci e ho detto che sicuramente non troveremo più nulla. Mah, mi sono sbagliata. Le bambole e gli orsetti hanno avuto una nuova sedia a dondolo e io ho trovato una coppia di portacandele di ottone, tre vasi di vetro, una caffettiera in porcellana di Tirschenreuth e vaso Winterreise di Rosenthal. Le portacandele devono essere lucidate ma sono belle già ora. Mi pento di non aver comprato questo vaso di Tapio Wirkkala. Non l'ho riconosciuto e ho pensato che 10 euro fossero troppi.

Today I went to the flea market really late with my younger daughter and said that we won't probably find anything anymore. Well, I was wrong. The dolls and teddy bears got a new rocking chair and I found a pair of brass candle holders, three glass vases, a white Tirschenreuth coffee pot and a Rosenthal Winterreise vase. The candle holders need to be polished but I think they're already nice. It's a shame that I didn't buy this vase designed by Tapio Wirkkala, though. I didn't recognize it and thought that 10 euros was too much.

Yksityiskohtia

Tässä on pari yksityiskohtaa olohuoneesta. Kubus-kynttilänjalan olen tilannut itselleni pari vuotta sitten joululahjaksi Illums Bolighusista ja musta kulho, jonka sisus on päällystetty lehtikuparilla, on Saksasta Oldenburgin keramiikkamessuilta. Kulho näyttää ihan siltä kuin sen sisällä olisi aina palava kynttilä. Alemman kuvan punainen Heikki Orvolan Nuutajärvelle suunnittelema maljakko on saatu ennakkoperintönä, kirkas Tapio Wirkkalan suunnittelema karahvi on Iittalan tehtaanmyymälästä ja valkoinen pieni maljakko Saksasta kirpputorilta.

Ecco un paio di dettagli dal soggiorno. Ho comprato il candelabro Kubus da Illums Bolighus come regalo di natale per me stessa e il vaso nero con l'interno coperto di rame in foglia è dalla fiera di ceramica a Oldenburg. Il vaso sembra sempre illuminato da una candela. Il vaso rosso è di Heikki Orvola per Nuutajärvi, la caraffa trasparente di Tapio Wirkkala per Iittala e il vaso bianco dal mercato delle pulci.

Here's a couple of details from our living room. I have ordered the Kubus candle holder from Illums Bolighus as a Christmas present for myself and the black vase with leaf copper on the inside is from the Oldenburg International Ceramic Fair. The vase always looks as if there were a little candle inside. The red vase is by Heikki Orvola for Nuutajärvi, the transparent carafe is by Tapio Wirkkala for Iittala and the small white vase is from flea market.
