Studio Aalto

(FI) Varsinaisten Habitare-postausten jatkoksi näytän vielä kuvia esimmäiseltä illalta Helsingissä. Me ulkomailta tulleet bloggaajavieraat (minun lisäkseni paikalla olivat tässä vaiheessa Desiree, Elisabetta ja Agata) pääsimme viettämään iltaa Alvar Aallon studiossa Munkkiniemessä. Vieralu rakennuksessa oli jäänyt itsellänikin aiemmin suunnittelun asteelle, joten olin tosi iloinen päästessäni katsomaan tätä arkkitehtuurin helmeä. Alvar Aalto suunnitteli Tiilimäki 20:ssä sijaitsevan rakennuksen arkkitehtitoimistonsa työtilaksi vuonna 1955 ja työskenteli siellä vuoteen 1976 eli kuolemaansa asti. Rakennus on täynnä tarkkaan harkittuja, nerokkaita yksityiskohtia, ja valon kulku eri tiloissa on suunniteltu viimeistä yksityiskohtaa myöten. Vaikuttavin tila on ehdottomasti kaareva ateljee, jossa on esillä hieno valikoima Aallon suunnittelemia kalusteita ja valaisinten prototyyppejä ja jonka ikkunoista avautuu näkymä amfiteatterin muotoon rakennetulle sisäpihalle. Alimman kuvan mallin kerrostalo, Aalto-Hochhaus, sijaitsee muuten täällä Bremenissä, vaikkei ihan meidän lähialueella. Täytyy ehdottomasti tehdä joskus retki sitä katsomaan, vaikkei sisätiloihin luultavasti pääsekään käymään. (Anteeksi kännykkäkamerakuvat, mutta upea rakennus onneksi kompensoi vähän kuvanlaatua ;))

(IT) Dopo i post sulla fiera Habitare torno ancora alla prima sera a Helsinki. Noi blogger venuti dall'estero (oltre a me c'erano già Desiree, Elisabetta e Agata a questo punto) siamo stati invitati alla festa di apertura che aveva luogo nello Studio Aalto nel quartiere di Munkkiniemi. Non avevo ancora realizzato la mia intenzione di visitare lo studio quindi sono stata molto contenta ad avere la possibilità di vedere questo capolavoro di architettura. Alvar Aalto ha progettato l'edificio, situato in Tiilimäki 20, per il suo studio di architettura nel 1955 e ha continuato a lavorarci fino alla morte, avvenuta nel 1976. L'edificio è pieno di soluzioni elaborate e geniali e specialmente il passaggio della luce nei vari spazi è stato progettato fino all'ultimo dettaglio. Lo spazio più impressionante è senz'altro l'atelier con bei esemplari di mobili e prototipi di lampade dell'architetto. La parete curva ha delle grandi finestre che danno sull'anfiteatro nel cortile interno. Un dettaglio curioso: il palazzo il cui plastico sta nell'ultima foto, l'Aalto-Hochhaus, è situato qui a Brema, anche se non è vicinissimo a casa nostra. Dovremmo proprio fare una gita a vederlo anche se dubito che si riesca ad entrare per vedere gli spazi interni. (EN) After the posts on the Habitare design fair I will show you some pictures from our first night in Helsinki. Our group of international bloggers (at this point there were Desiree, Elisabetta and Agata besides me) was invited to an opening party in Studio Aalto in the Munkkiniemi neighbourhood. I had so far only planned on visiting the place so I was really happy to get a chance so see this architectural masterpiece. Alvar Aalto designed the building, situated in Tiilimäki 20, in 1954 as he needed a bigger studio, and continued working there until his death in 1976. The building is full of carefully planned, clever solutions and special attention is paid to how the light moves in the various spaces. The most impressive space was without doubt the curvy atelier with various pieces of furniture designed by the architect and prototypes of his lamps hanging from the balcony. The curvy wall windows open to the garden shaped like an amphitheater. The apartment building, Aalto-Hochhaus, whose scale model is in the last picture is by the way situated here in Bremen, Germany, even though you can probably only look at if from the outside. (Sorry for the mobile phone pictures but I think the gorgeous building compensates for the picture quality ;))

Riihitie 20

(FI) Helsingin Munkkiniemessä osoitteessa Riihitie 20 sijaitsee Alvar Aallon vuonna 1936 valmistunut kotitalo, jonka yhteyteen Aalto suunnitteli myös tilat toimistolleen. Nykyään talo toimii museona, jonka toiminnasta vastaa Alvar Aalto -säätiö. Museoon voi tutustua opastetuilla kierroksilla, jotka pidetään yleensä englanniksi, ja me suuntasimme tällaiselle kierrokselle joululomalla. Alkupään kuvat ovat asuintiloista, ruokasalikuvan jälkeen siirrytään toimiston puolelle ja lopussa on vielä muutama ulkoapäin otettu kuva. Talon tunnelma on intiimin kodikas, vähän kuin olisi päässyt Aalloille kylään. Kaikkialla näkyy melkoisia designaarteita ja harvinaisuuksia ja olohuoneessa on upea, Artekin lahjoittama iso Beni Ouarain -matto. Outo metallinen viritelmä on Aallon suunnittelema tupakkapöytä, joka oli liian kallis valmistaa, jotta sitä olisi otettu tuotantoon. Kuvausolosuhteet olivat varsin haastavat talvi-iltapäivän pimeydessä ja yläkerrassa sijaitsevissa makuutiloissa kuvaaminen ilman jalustaa oli käytännössä mahdotonta. Opas kertoikin, että asunnossa on luultavasti ollut käytössä nykyistä tehokkaampia hehkulamppuja ja lisäksi jalkavalaisimia, joita irtaimistoon ei enää kuulu. Tallentui muistikortille sentään aika monta julkaisukynnyksen ylittävääkin otosta, kun ei ole turhan kriittinen. Etenkin ruokasalikuva on kovin tumma ja värit pielessä, mutta halusin silti mukaan nuo Aino ja Alvar Aallon häämatkalta Venetsiasta peräisin olevat antiikkituolit. Onko museo teille jo tuttu paikka?

(IT) Nel quartiere di Munkkiniemi a Helsinki in Riihitie 20 c'è la casa di Alvar Aalto, costruita nel 1936, con spazio anche per il suo studio d'architettura. Oggi la casa è un museo gestito dalla fondazione Alvar Aalto. Nel museo si organizzano visite guidate che sono normalmente in inglese e noi abbiamo partecipato a una di queste visite durante le vacanze di natale. Le prime foto sono fatte nella casa, dopo la foto della sala da pranzo siamo nello studio e alla fine c'è qualche foto scattata fuori. Nella casa c'è una bella atmosfera intima, sembra quasi di essere ospiti della famiglia Aalto. Si vedono dovunque pezzi rari di design e nel soggiorno c'è un grande tappeto Beni Ouarain che Artek ha regalato al museo.  La strana struttura in metallo è un tavolino da tabacco che Aalto ha progettato, ma era troppo costoso da produrre perció è rimasto un pezzo unico. Era molto difficile fotografare nel buio di un pomeriggio invernale in Finlandia e sopra nella zona notte era in pratica impossibile senza treppiedi. La guida ha in effetti detto che nella casa si usavano probabilmente lampadine più efficaci di quelle attualmente in uso e c'erano altre lampade da terra che non ci sono più. In ogni caso sono riuscita a scattare varie foto che si possono  pubblicare, almeno se non siamo troppo critici. Specialmente la foto della sala da pranzo è molto scura e i colori sono un po' sbagliati ma volevo comunque mostrarvi le sedie antiche che Aino e Alvar Aalto hanno comprato durante il viaggio di nozze a Venezia. (EN) In Riihitie 20 in the Munkkiniemi district in Helsinki there's the iconic Alvar Aalto house, finished in 1936, with a space also for Aalto's architect's office. Today the house is a museum run by Alvar Aalto foundation. You can visit the museum during guided tours that are normally in English so we headed to one of these tours during the Christmas holidays. The first pictures are taken in the private home, after the dining room picture we're in the office and at the end there are some pictures from the outside. There's a really nice intimate atmosphere in the house, it almost feels like you were a guest by the Aalto family. You can see rare design pieces everywhere and in the living room there's a really big Beni Ouarain rug that was donated to the museum by Artek. The strange metal stucture is a tobacco table designed by Aalto that was too expencive to manufacture and thus never taken into production. It was really challenging taking photos during a dark winter afternoon and upstairs in the bedrooms it was practically impossible without a tripod. In fact, the guide told me that they probably used to have brighter bulbs in the lamps and also some floor lamps that are no longer there. Anyhow, I managed to take some pictures that I can show you if I'm not too critical. Especially the dining room picture is really dark and the colours aren't quite what they should be but I really wanted to show the antique chairs that Aino and Alvar Aalto bought during their honeymoon in Venice.
