Joulumyyjäislöydöt

(FI) Hyvää uutta vuotta tätäkin kautta! Viime viikonloppu oli varsin vauhdikas, sillä teimme perjantaina päiväreissun Hollannin puolelle maan pohjoisosan suurimpaan kaupunkiin Groningeniin. Lauantaina juhlimme uudenvuoden aattoa suomalaisten ystävien luona ja sunnuntaina nukuttiin koko porukka puolille päivin. Ei siis ihme, jos vuoden ensimmäinen päivä tuntui kovin lyhyeltä. Vieläkin tuntuu olevan vähän kaikilla kahdeksalta alkavan koulun kanssa yhteensopiva unirytmi haussa, mutta onneksi on vielä tämä viikko aikaa hilata sisäistä kelloa oikeaan suuntaan.

Kuvien kaksiväriset kulhot ovat löytöjä käsityöläisten joulumarkkinoilta, jotka järjestettiin Bremenin raatihuoneella. Joululahjoja en sieltä löytänyt, mutten taaskaan voinut vastustaa kaunista käsintehtyä keramiikkaa. Pienempi kulho on Sigrid Groten ja Ulfert Hillersin Bremenissä sijaitsevan keramiikkapajan tuotoksia, isomman taas on tehnyt Steffen Bockstaller Worpswedessä. Viimeisen kuvan valkoisen kulhon olen ostanut jo joskus syksyn mittaan Anette Breun ateljeesta, joka on meiltä ihan kävelymatkan päässä.

Minun ennustukseni vuoden 2017 sisustustrendien suhteen on se, että aidot materiaalit ja käsin tehdyt asiat ovat yhä enemmän pinnalla. Luonnosta tuttu epätäydellisyys ja yksilöllisyys ovat paljon kiinnostavampia kuin viimeistelty perfektionismi. Tumma puu palaa sisustukseen, ja mikäs siinä, onhan esimerkiksi Raumgestaltin tummaksi käsitelty tamminen leikkuulautakin kaunis ja tyylikäs. Tarkempien väritrendianalyysien teon jätän suosiolla muille, mutta lämpimät ja kodikkaat sävyt ovat kyllä tämän vuoden juttu. Oma hyvinvointi ja kanssaihmisistä huolehtiminen ovat tietenkin myös tärkeintä teemoja, joten inspiroidutaan kaikesta kivasta ja kauniista, kuunnellaan omaa sisintä ja tehdään hyvältä tuntuvia ja hyvää tekeviä valintoja vuonna 2017!

(IT) Buon anno ancora una volta! Il fine settimana scorso è stato piuttosto intenso, visto che venerdì abbiamo fatto una gita a Groningen, la più grande città nell'Olanda del nord. Sabato abbiamo festeggiato capodanno con amici finlandesi e domenica abbiamo tutti dormito fino a mezzogiorno. Non è quindi strano che il primo giorno di quest'anno è sembrato brevissimo. Il ritmo sonno-veglia di tutti noi è ancora lontanissimo da quello che dovrebbe essere con la scuola che comincia sempre alle otto ma per fortuna c'è ancora una settimana di tempo per aggiustare la cosa.

Le ciotole a due colori le ho trovate al mercatino di natale degli artigiani che è stato organizzato nel municipio di Brema. Non ci ho trovato regali di natale per nessuno ma non ho saputo resistere alla bella ceramica fatta a mano. La ciotola più piccola è di Sigrid Grote e Ulfert Hillers che lavorano a Brema, quella più grande invece di Steffen Bockstaller di Worpswede. La ciotola bianca nell'ultima foto l'ho comprata già prima in autunno nell'atelier di ceramica di Anette Breu che si trova abbastanza vicino a casa nostra.

Io prevedo che i materiali autentici e le cose fatte a mano saranno sempre più attuali nel 2017. L'imperfezione e la variazione che si vedono anche nella natura sono molto più interessanti che il perfezionismo impeccabile. Il legno scuro sta tornando negli arredi e perché no, per esempio il tagliere in rovere scuro di Raumgestalt è proprio bello ed elegante. Lascio le analisi precise sui colori trend agli altri ma quest'anno le sfumature calde ed invitanti sono assolutamente in. Il proprio benessere e il prendere cura degli altri esseri umani sono pure temi importanti quindi lasciamoci ispirare da tutte le cose belle e buone, ascoltiamo ciò che dice il cuore e facciamo nel 2017 scelte che fanno bene e fanno starci bene!

(EN) Happy new year one more time! Last weekend was pretty intensive since on Friday we did a day trip to Groningen, the biggest city in northern Holland. Then on Saturday we celebrated New Year's Eve with our Finnish friends and on Sunday all of us slept until noon. No wonder the first day of this year seemed really short. We all still have our sleeping rhythms far from what they should be when the school starts at eight o'clock but luckily there's still one week time to go to the right direction.

I found the two-coloured bowls in these pictures at the artisans' Christmas market organized at the Bremen town hall. I didn't find any Christmas presents but I simply couldn't resist the beautiful handmade ceramics. The smaller bowl is by Sigrid Grote and Ulfert Hillers that work here in Bremen and the bigger one by Steffen Bockstaller in Worpswede. The white bowl in the last picture I bought earlier in the autumn from Anette Breu's atelier that's situated quite close to our home.

As to the trends in 2017, I predict that all authentic materials and handmade things become even more fashionable. Imperfection and individuality seen also in nature are much more interesting than fully controlled perfection. Dark wood comes back in the interiors and why not, for example the dark oak cutting board by Raumgestalt looks really nice and elegant. I'll let other people do detailed colour trend previews but warm and inviting colours are without doubt the thing this year. Dedicating time for one's own well-being and taking care of the other people around us are also important themes so let's get inspired by all the nice and beautiful things, listen to our hearts and do this year choices that feel good and also do good!

Jatta Lavin studiolla

(FI) Viime viikolla kävimme syyslomalla Suomessa, kuten Instaani seuraavat varmaan huomasivat. Aika meni pitkälti ystäviä ja sukulaisia tavatessa ja erilaisia tarpeellisia käytännön asioita kuten passien uusimisia hoitaessa, mutta jäi aikaa sentään vähän muuhunkin.

Pidän todella paljon Jatta Lavin hienostuneen herkästä ja minimalistisesta keramiikasta ja olen hänen Instagram-kuviensa suuri ihailija, joten voitte arvata, että olin innoissani, kun pääsin eräänä iltapäivänä vierailemaan hänen työhuoneellaan.

En todellakaan joutunut pettymään, sillä työhuone oli ihanan inspiroiva paikka! Kaunista, läpikuultavan ohutta keramiikka riveissä hyllyjen täydeltä ja siellä täällä upeita asetelmia valmiina kuvattavaksi. Valkoista, mustaa ja punasavista samettista mattapintaa, hauraan hentoja kuvioita ja siroja kuivia oksia - Jatan asetelmista huokuu ihan kuviin asti harmonia ja rauhallinen, pysähtynyt tunnelma.

Jos jaatte ihastukseni Jatan keramiikkaan, kannattaa tykätä Jatan Facebook-sivusta. Siellä hän nimittäin ilmoittaa, kun työhuoneella on avoimet ovet. (IT) La settimana scorsa c'erano le vacanze autunnali della scuola e siamo andati in Finlandia come quelli che mi seguono su Instagram avranno notato. Abbiamo passato molto tempo visitando parenti e incontrando amici e occupandoci di cose pratiche come rinnovo passaporti ma un po' di tempo è rimasto anche per altre cose.

A me piace moltissimo la ceramica delicata, sofisticata e minimalista di Jatta Lavi e sono un fan delle sue foto sull'Instagram quindi potete immaginare il mio entusiasmo quando un pomeriggio mi si è presentata l'occasione di visitare il suo studio a Helsinki.

Le mie aspettative non erano per nulla esagerate perché il posto è pieno di cose ispiranti: bellissima ceramica in fila sugli scaffali, qua e là composizioni prote per essere fotografate. Superfici bianche, nere e di terracotta opache e vellutate, decorazioni disegnati con linee sottili e graziose e rami di piante secchi - la sensazione di armonia, quiete e calma delle nature morte di Jatta si trasmette pure nelle foto.

Se la ceramica di Jatta piace tanto anche a voi, conviene seguire la sua pagina Facebook per vedere quando ci sono porte aperte nello studio. È anche possibile fare mettersi d'accordo direttamente con Jatta su una visita come ho fatto io, e qui c'è una lista di rivenditori in caso lo studio fosse troppo lontano. Grazie, Jatta, per avermi fatta venire a interrompere la tua giornata lavorativa. È stato bello chiacchierare sulla ceramica, artigianato, fotografia e tante altre cose! 

(EN) Last week during the school autumn holidays we were in Finland as those that follow my Instagram have surely noticed. Most of the times we spent visiting friends and relatives, taking care of some practical things like ordering new passports but there was some time left also for other things.

I really love Jatta Lavi's sophisticated, delicate and minimalist ceramics and I'm a big fan of her Instagram pictures so you can imagine how happy I was when I got the chance to visit her studio in Helsinki one afternoon.

What an inspiring place it was: rows of beautiful ceramics on the shelves and beautiful arrangements here and there, ready to be photographed. White, black and terracotta coloured velvety matte surfaces, fragile lines in the decorations and dainty dry branches; the harmony and peacefulness of  Jatta's arrangements can be sensed also in the pictures

If you like Jatta's ceramics like I do, it's a good idea to follow her Facebook page where she tells about the open doors dates at her studio. Tanskalaista keramiikkaa

(FI) Äitini palasi tänään Suomeen puolitoista viikkoa kestäneen vierailun jälkeen ja muutenkin viime aikoina on ollut niin paljon ohjelmaa, etten ole ehtinyt juuri edes kirppikselle. Yhden kivan löydön olen sentään hiljattain tehnyt. Keramiikkavati on tanskalainen, tai niin ainakin tulkitsen sen pohjassa olevasta signeerauksesta, mutta tekijästä en saa mitään selvää. Onko teillä hyviä arvauksia nimen suhteen? Ihana vati on kuitenkin ja värityskin on kerrassaan ajankohtainen nyt, kun sininen tekee tuloaan sisustukseen oikein rytinällä.

(IT) Mia madre è tornata oggi in Finlandia dopo una visita di 10 giorni e anche altrimenti abbiamo avuto ultimamente tanti programmi che non ho quasi avuto tempo per andare al mercatino delle pulci. Ho comunque trovato una cosa molto bella di recente. La ciotola è ceramica danese o così ho almeno intrepretato dalla firma nel fondo. Invece il nome del ceramisca non lo capisco proprio. Sapete dire cosa potrebbe essere? In ogni caso la ciotola mi piace tanto e anche il colore blu della decorazione è molto attuale.

(EN) Today my mother returned to Finland after a 10 day visit and also otherwise I have been so busy lately that I haven't really had time to go to the flea market. Anyhow, there is one beautiful thing I have found quite recently. This handmade dish is danish or that's at least what I read in the signature but I really can't figure out the artist's name. Do you have any idea what it could be? I really love this dish and also the decoration is perfect now that the shades of blue have become quite trendy .

Keramiikkakäpy ja kaverit

(FI) Pelkistetyn graafinen ja mustavalkoinen sisustustyyli on alkanut kyllästyttää minua viime aikoina yhä enemmän, ja kun meidän olohuoneen vitriinikaapin väri muuttui mustaksi, huone kaipasi kipeästi vähän lämpimiä elementtejä mustan möhkäleen vastapainoksi. Apu löytyi matkatuliaisen, kirppislöydön ja parin pienen sisustuskauppahankinnan muodossa ja nyt olohuone ja etenkin sohvan nurkka on huomattavasti aiempaa kutsuvamman näköinen. Valkoisen keramiikkakävyn ostin Sisilian kuuluisasta keramiikkakaupungista Caltagironesta. Ihastuin valkoisiin käpyihin jo edellisellä reissulla ja tällä kertaa yksi käpy kulki kotiin matkalaukussa. Sunnuntain kirppispyörähdykseltä löysin eurolla puurasian, jonka sisällä tuli kaupanpäällisiksi kaksi pientä kerää virkkauslankaa ja pätkä virkattua pitsiä. Punainen kolmiokynttilänjalka ja valkoinen kääntömaljakko-kynttilänjalka olivat myöskin euron löytöjä, mutta ne jäivät vielä odottamaan käyttöä. Kotimme lähellä olevasta sisustusliike Summer Housesta löytynyt kaunis ruskeansävyinen lampaantalja ja harmaa samettityyny sekä kirppikseltä löytyneet messinkiset kynttilänjalat täydentävät uuden lämpimän tunnelman. Ei tarvinnut taaskaan ruveta vaihtamaan verhoja eikä maalaamaan seiniä ja kävyn ansiosta voin sanoa aloittaneeni jo kodin koristelun joulua varten.

(IT) Lo stile grafico tutto in bianco e nero comincia ad annoiarmi sempre di più e quando la vetrina nel nostro soggiorno è diventata nera era chiaro che ci volevano alcuni elementi più caldi per controbilanciare l'effetto del grande mobile nero. Ho trovato il rimedio nella forma di un souvenier di viaggio dalla Sicilia, un oggetto trovato al mercatino delle pulci e un paio di acquisti nuovi da un negozio di arredamento e ora il soggiorno e specialmente il divano sono molto più invitanti di prima. Ho comprato la pigna bianca in ceramica a Caltagirone. Mi sono innamorata di queste pigne già durante il viaggio precedente in Sicilia e ora ne ho portata una nella valigia. Domenica ho fatto un salto al mercatino delle pulci e ho trovato una vecchia scatola di legno a un euro. Dentro la scatola c'erano ancora due gomitoli di filo per uncinetto e anche un pezzo di pizzo fatto a mano. Il portacandele rosso a triangolo e quello biancho che girato è anche un minivaso per fiori sono pure costati un euro ciascuno ma non li sto usando per il momento. La pelle di pecora beige e il cuscino in velluto che ho trovato nel negozio di arredamento Summer House e i portacandele in ottone che provengono pure dai mercatini delle pulci completano il nuovo stile del soggiorno. Non ho dovuto cambiare tende ne imbiancare muri e grazie alla pigna posso pure dire che ho già iniziato a decorare la casa per natale.

(EN) I'm becoming more and more tired of the all black and white graphic interior style and when I painted our living room glass door cabinet black it was obvious that the room needed some warm elements to counterbalance the big black chunk. The remedy came in the form of a souvenir from Sicily, a flea market find and a couple of new things from an interior shop and now the living room and especially the couch are much more inviting. I bought the white ceramic cone from Sicily's famous ceramic town Caltagirone. I fell in love with these cones during our last trip to Sicily so this time a bought one home in my suitcase. Last Sunday I visited the local flea market and found an old wooden box for one euro. Inside the box there were still two balls of crocheting thread and some handmade lace. The triange shaped candlestick and the white candlestick that turned upside down is a small vase also cost one euro but I'm not using them for the moment. A beige sheepskin and a gray velvet cushion from the nearby interior shop Summer House and some old brass candlesticks from the flea market complete the new look. I didn't have to change the curtains or paint any walls and thanks to the cone I can now also say that I've started decorating our home for Christmas.

Keramiikkaa Oldenburgissa

(FI) Ehdin vihdoin käydä läpi kuvat Oldenburgin keramiikkapäiviltä, joilla kävimme tänä vuonna jo toista kertaa. Alkupään kuvat ovat Oldenburgin linnassa olleesta näyttelystä ja kattokruunukuvan jälkeen oleva keramiikka oli myynnissä linnan ulkopuolella. Ryhmittelin kuvat teemoittain ja mielestäni etenkin veistoksista huomaa, miten uskomattoman erilaisia töitä samasta materiaalista voi saada aikaan. Keramiikkapäivillä oli esillä oli jopa keraamisia suihkulähteitä ja puutarhakalusteita, vaikkei niitä näissä kuvissa näykään. Kyseisiä esineitä en ehkä omalle pihalle haluaisi, mutta yksinkertainen valkoinen riippuvalaisin sopisi hyvin valaisimaan jotakin kodin nurkkaa. Graafisesti koristellun ison keramiikkamunan pinta oli samettisen sileä, vaikka kuvio onkin kovin kulmikas. Teos oli oma suosikkini ja olisin ottanut sen mielelläni mukaan, jos hintalapussa olisi ollut vähän pienempi luku.

(IT) Ho finalmente organizzato le foto fatte alla fiera della ceramica a Oldenburg. Abbiamo visitato la fiera già per la seconda volta. Le prime foto fino al lampadario sono dalla mostra dentro il castello di Oldenburg e il resto della ceramica era in vendita nelle bancarelle intorno al castello. Ho diviso le foto in gruppi e specialmente dalle statue se vede quanto è versatile il materiale. C'erano in vendita addirittura fontane e mobili per il giardino anche se non si vedono in queste foto. Non so se ci starebbero molto bene nel nostro giardino ma per esempio una semplice lampada pensile sarebbe molto bella in qualche angolo della casa. La superficie dell'ovetto grande di ceramica era come velluto anche se il motivo grafico sembra tutto spigoloso. L'ovetto era l'oggetto che mi piaceva di più quest'anno e l'avrei portato molto volentieri a casa ma il prezzo era un po' troppo alto.

(EN) I finally went through the pictures taken during the Oldenburg ceramic fair. We visited the fair also two years ago so this was our second time there. The pictures before the chandelier are from the exhibition inside the castle and the rest of the pottery was for sale at the ceramic market around the castle. I grouped the pictures according to themes and especially the pictures of the ceramic statues show how versatile the material really is. You could buy even ceramic fountains and garden furniture at the fair but I'm not too convinced that I they would look nice in our garden. Instead I wouldn't mind having a simple white pendant lamp in some corner of our home. The surface of the big ceramic egg felt like velvet even though the graphic pattern makes it seem very angular. The egg was my favourite object this year and I would have loved to take it home with me but the price was a bit too high.

Ortigia

Eräs lempipaikoistani Sisiliassa on Sirakusan kaupunki ja etenkin sen vanhin osa, joka sijaitsee Ortigian saarella. Kävimme kesällä Sirakusassa kaksi kertaa, ensin illalla tapaamassa ystäviä ja toisen kerran iltapäivällä, jolloin ehdimme tehdä vähän ostoksia (kenkiä ja vaatteita) ja kierrellä kaupunkia kaikessa rauhassa. Ortigiassa on paljon viehättäviä pikkukauppoja, hyviä ravintoloita ja kahviloita ja tietenkin jäätelöbaareja. Tällä kertaa pysyin lujana enkä ostanut yhtään perinteistä keramiikkaa, vaikka Ortigiasta sitä voi ostaa myös suoraan valmistajilta. Löysimme myös todella kivan uuden kaupan nimeltä Viaroma50, jossa oli raikkaasti esille asteltuna valikoituja paikallisia tuotteita tekstiileistä elintarvikkeisiin. Sieltä taitaa kyllä ensi reissulla eksyä matkalaukkuun ainakin yksi tämän tyylinen pieni valkoinen keramiikkakäpy.

Uno dei miei posti preferiti in Sicilia è la città di Siracusa e specialmente la parte vecchia sull'isola di Ortigia. Quest'estate ci siamo stati due volte, prima una sera a trovare amici e poi ancora un pomeriggio per fare un po' di acquisti (scarpe e abbigliamento). Ortigia è piena di piccoli negozietti, buoni ristoranti, bar e naturalmente gelaterie. Questa volta ho resistito e non ho comprato ceramica locale, anche se a Ortigia la si può comprare anche direttamente da produttori. Abbiamo scoperto un nuovo negozio molto simpatico, Viaroma50, che vende una bella selezione di prodotti locali, da tessuti a prodotti alimentari. Mi sa che la prossima volta ci acquisto almeno una piccola pigna di ceramica bianca come questa qui.

One of my favourite places in Sicily is the town of Syracuse and especially its old part on the island of Ortigia. This summer we visited Syracuse twice, first one evening to meet friends for dinner and then again on an afternoon since we had to do some shopping (shoes and clothes). Ortigia is full of nice small shops, good restaurants and cafes and of course ice cream parlours. This time I resisted and didn't buy any local ceramics even though in Ortigia you can buy it directly from the pottery shops. We discovered a really nice new shop called Viaroma50 that sold a nice selection of local products, from textiles to food. I think that next time I will buy at least a nice small white ceramic cone like this one.
