(FI)  Meillä on täällä ollut muutaman päivän ajan niin uskomattoman kesäinen ilma, että kaikki liikenevä aika on mennyt parveketta ja pihaa siistiessä, ja tänään on tietysti vietetty äitienpäivää. Perheen ihanat kakkuleipurisiskokset ryhtyivät puuhiin vasta aamulla, joten nautin kevyen (kahvia sisältävän!) aamupalan ja lähdin sen jälkeen pitkästä aikaa kirppikselle odottamaan kakun valmistumista. Myyjiä ja ostajia riitti hellepäivänä, ja vaikutti jo vähän siltä, etten löydä mitään kiinnostavaa, kunnes pysähdyin vanhemman rouvan myyntipöydän kohdalle ja äkkäsin tuttua suomalaista lasia. Sarpanevan Festivot ja Wirkkalan maljakko päätyivät kassiini suunnilleen siihen hintaan, jolla Suomessa saa yhden samanlaisen Festivon käytettynä. Erään myyjän laatikoista  pengoin esiin pari rouheaa keramiikkakuppia, ja kierroksen kruunasi italialaisen Anri Formin mielettömän upea tiikkikulho, josta myyjä pyysi kolme euroa. Uusi vintageaarteeni! Parhaat aarteet löytyivät kuitenkin kotoa, missä minua odottivat miehen valmistama lounas ja tytärten leipoma herkullinen mansikkakakku. <3 Hyvää äitienpäivän iltaa!

(IT)  Da qualche giorno il tempo è stato così bello ed estivo che abbiamo passato tutto il tempo possibile fuori a pulire e sistemare il balcone e il giardino, e oggi siamo naturalmente stati occupati con i festeggiamenti della festa della mamma. Le nostre belle pasticcere si sono messe al lavoro solo stamattina quindi dopo una colazione leggera (e caffè!) sono uscita per fare un giro al mercatino delle pulci. C'era tantissima gente, grazie alla giornata splendida, e all'inizio sembrava che non ci fosse nulla di interessante finché non mi sono fermata davanti al tavolo di una signora un po' più anziana e ho notato un po' di vetro finlandese. Ho acquistato due portacandele Festivo di Timo Sarpaneva e un vaso di Tapio Wirkkala all'incirca allo stesso prezzo che avrei preso solo un portacandele uguale di seconda mano in Finlandia. Nelle scatole di un venditore ho trovato un paio di belle ciotole di ceramica rustica e per finire bene il giro ho trovato a tre euro una bellissima ciotola in teak di Anri Form che è stata una ditta italiana. I tesori migliori mi aspettavano però a casa dove ho trovato pranzo preparato da mio marito e una torta con le fragole fatta dalle mie figlie. <3 Buona serata della festa della mamma!

(EN) The last days have been so warm and sunny that we have spent all the time cleaning and preparing the balcony and the garden for the summer, and today we have spent the day celebrating the Mother's Day. Our bakers started to work on the cake only this morning so after I had had a light breakfast (that included coffee!) I headed to the flea market. With such a perfect weather the place was full of people and it seemed like I wouldn't find anything interesting until I stopped in front of an older lady's stand and noticed some Finnish glass. I purchased two Festivo candle holders by Timo Sarpaneva and a vase by Tapio Wirkkala at about the same price that you pay for just one similar second hand candle holder in Finland. I also found a couple of rustic pottery bowls in one seller's boxes and the tour was topped off with a wonderful find, a beautiful teak bowl by Italian Anri Form I paid 3 euros for. Anyhow, the best treasures waited for me at home where I found lunch prepared by my husband and delicious strawberry cake baked and decorated by my daughters. <3 Have a wonderful Mother's Day evening!

Juhannuksen ruusut

(FI) Meidän pihalla kasvaa köynnösruusu, jota en ensimmäisenä kesänä edes huomannut, koska se oli kokonaan viiliviinin alla piilossa. Vasta syksyllä yksi sinnikäs kukkavarsi putkahti näkyville ja alkoi kukkia, jolloin tajusin kasvin olemassaolon. Viime kesänä raivasin ruusulle vähän tilaa ja nyt sain jo leikattua kukkia maljakkoonkin. Nämä saavat toimia nyt juhannusruusujen korvikkeinta. (Tein muuten vihdoinkin itselleni kuvausalustan ylimääräisestä tammilevyn palasta valkoisella peittävällä Osmo Color -vahalla. Kaipaan usein valkoista alustaa kuviin ja meillä sattuu olemaan kaikki isommat pöydät puuta. Levyn toiselle puolelle vahaa tuli vain yksi kerros, joten puun pinta kuultaa vielä läpi ja taustasta tulee vähän elävä kuten toisessa kuvassa.) Juhannussää meillä on täällä Saksassakin ihan perinteinen suomalainen eli vettä sataa ja on kylmä. Ihanaa juhannusta kaikille!

(IT) Abbiamo nel giardino una rosa arrampicante che non ho neanche visto la prima estate perché era completamente coperta dalla vite americana. Solo in autunno un ramo è spuntato in vista e ha cominciato a fiorire quindi ho scoperto la pianta. La scorsa estate ho fatto un po' di spazio per la rosa e ora ho potuto già pure prendere qualche fiore in vaso per la festa finlandese di San Giovanni. (A proposito, ho finalmente preparato un fondo bianco per le fotografie, usando cera bianca non trasparente di Osmo Color su una tavola di rovere. Ci vorrebbe spesso un fondo bianco per le foto e tutti i nostri tavoli grandi sono in legno. Una parte della tavola ha solo uno strato di cera quindi risulta un po' più rustico come si vede nella seconda foto.) Il tempo qui non è molto diverso da quello abbastanza tradizionale finlandese: fa freddo e piove. Auguro a tutti una bellissima festa di San Giovanni!

(EN)We have a rambling rose in our garden even though I didn't even notice it the first summer because it was covered by Virginia creeper. Only in the autumn one persistent branch emerged in sight and started blooming so I found the plant. Last summer I cleared some space for the rose and now I was already able to cut some flower and put them in a vase just for the Midsummer. (By the way, I finally did a white background for taking photos, using white opaque Osmo Color wood wax on a piece of oak table top. A white background would often look better in the pictures and all our big tables are with wood finish. One side has only one layer of wax so you can still see the wood a bit so the background has more structure like in the second picture.) The German Midsummer weather is pretty much like the Finnish one quite often: it's cold and raining. Have a lovely Midsummer!

DesignKomitea-arvonnan voittajat

(FI) Arvoin DesignKomitea-arvonnan voittajat perinteisten paperilippujen avulla tytärten toimiessa onnettarina. Julisteen voitti Päivi, joka kommentoi seuraavasti: "Näissä julisteissa on sympaattista huumoria. Tiikerin ilme on mielenkiintoinen, mutta ehkä tuo pupu puhuttelee eniten. Antaisin sen tulevalle lapsenlapselleni." Korttipaketti meni Suville, joka jätti seuraavanlaisen kommentin: "Onpa hienoja, vaikea valita vain yhtä. Ehkäpä ottaisin tumman sirkusjulisteen." Suvin yhteystiedot valitettavasti puuttuivat kommentista, joten lähettäisitkö minulle sähköpostiviestin osoitteeseen exminimalist(at)gmail.com niin saamme palkinnon perille.

Yläkuvassa on maailman helpoin pääsiäiskoriste eli nippu pitkiä koristeellisia sulkia pienessä Aalto-maljakossa. Alakuvassa taas näkyy kranssi, joka tein oliivipuusta leikkaamistani oksista. Eihän niitä nyt raaskinut heittää poiskaan. Kranssi on vähän turhan rentorakenteinen, joten se sai jäädä pöydälle seinälle ripustamisen sijaan. Nyt sen sijaan lähden pakkaamaan laukkuja, sillä suuntaamme huomenna muutamaksi päiväksi Toscanaan. Kuulumisia voi seurata lähipäivinä Instagramin kautta. Hyvää pääsiäisviikon jatkoa!

(IT) L'estrazione è stata fatta con bigliettini di carta e le vincitrici del concorso organizzato con DesignKomitea sono Päivi e Suvi. Auguri alle vincitrici! Nella prima foto c'è la decorazione più semplice del mondo, cioè un mazzo di piume belle messe in un vaso Aalto di Iittala. Nella seconda foto invece si vede la ghirlanda che ho fatto quando ho potato il nostro ulivo. Non potevo mica buttare i rami nella spazzatura. La struttura della ghirlanda non è molto rigida quindi può stare sul tavolo e non l'appendo al muro. Ora invece vado a fare le valigie perché domani mattina partiamo per la Toscana. (EN) DesignKomitea giveaway winners were raffled using small lottery tickets and the lucky winners are Päivi and Suvi. Congratulations! In the first picture there's a really simple Easter decoration. I just put a bunch of beautiful feathers in an Aalto vase by Iittala. In the second picture you can see an olive garland I made when I pruned our olive tree. I just couldn't throw the beautiful branches to the garbage. The garland isn't very robust so it will stay on the table instead of being hung on the wall. Now I'm going to pack my luggage since we're leaving for Tuscany tomorrow morning. You can follow our adventures on Instagram. I wish you all a nice Easter week!

Mantelilla ja hillolla

(FI) Meillä herkuteltiin sunnuntaina jo toista kertaa laskiaispullilla, sillä leivoimme ensimmäisen erän vähän etuajassa, itse asiassa jo ennen Runebergin päivää. Tarjolla oli jälleen sekä hillolla että mantelimassalla täytettyjä pullia, sillä perheemme jäseniltä ei ole löytynyt yhtenäistä linjaa täytteitten paremmuusjärjestyksen suhteen. Tänään täytyy vielä syödä viimeiset pullat, mutta hernekeitto ja mäenlasku jäävät väliin, sillä en ole muistanut liottaa herneitä eikä ulkona ole edes pakkasta, lumesta puhumattakaan. Hyvää laskiaistiistaita joka tapauksessa! (Lähetän tämän postauksen myös Kebo Homing -blogiin, jonne Kebo kerää karnevaaliperinteisiin liittyviä blogikirjoituiksia.)

(IT) Domenica abbiamo mangiato già per la seconda volta quest'anno i tipici dolci del carnevale finlandese, una specie di brioche dolce farcita con pasta di mandorla o marmellata e panna montata. Io li preparo sia con la marmellata che con la mandorla visto che non andiamo d'accordo su quale versione sia la migliore. Oggi mangeremo gli ultimi dolcetti ma le altre tradizioni, ovvero mangiare la zuppa di piselli e scivolare dalle colline con le slittine, le saltiamo perché non ho messo piselli secchi ad ammollo né c'è neve fuori. Buon martedì grasso in ogni caso! (Mando questo post anche al blog Kebo Homing dove Kebo raccoglie link a post sulle tradizioni di Carnevale.)

(EN) On Sunday we had already for the second time this year the traditional Finnish Carnival or Shrove Tuesday Buns with almond paste or jam and whipped cream. I always prepare both the versions because we don't agree on which ones are the best. Today we'll eat the last buns but we'll skip the other two traditions, pea soup and sledding because I forgot to soak dried peas for the soup and there's no snow outside. Anyway I wish you a happy Shrove Tuesday! (I'll send this post also to Kebo Homing blog where Kebo collects links to posts on Carnival traditions.)

Kesäjuhlien jälkeen

(FI) Takana on ihanan kesäinen ja sen verran kiireinen viikonloppu, että ehdin nyt vasta koneelle julkaisemaan lauantaista aamukahvikuvaa. Taidan kuitenkin silti linkittää kuvan Ninjan blogiin muiden kahvikuvien jatkoksi. Pidimme perjantai-iltana puutarhassa kesäjuhlat ystäville ja istuimme lämpimässä kesäillassa vielä illan pimettyäkin. Viime kesänä hankkimani puutarhavalot valaisivat päivänvarjon alla ihanan tunnelmallisesti, kuten Instagram-kuvasta näkee. (Kyllä vain, olen päättänyt julkaista sielläkin kuvia ainakin silloin tällöin.) Eilinen päivä menikin juhlista toipuessa ja jälkisiivouksessa, mutta mikäs siinä, kun kotikin on täynnä vieraiden tuomia kukkia. Tänään vietimme koko iltapäivän Oldenburgin keramiikkapäivillä, joista kuvia luvassa myöhemmin. Mukavaa sunnuntai-iltaa ja alkavaa viikkoa!

(IT) Abbiamo passato un fine settimana bellissimo e pieno di programmi e solo ora ho tempo di mettermi al computer per pubblicare la foto del mio caffellatte del sabato mattina. Penso comunque di aggiungere ancora il link nel blog di Ninja. Venerdì sera abbiamo avuto una festa nel giardino e siamo stati fuori a chiacchierare, mangiare e bere con gli amici ancora dopo il tramonto. Le luci che ho comprato la scorsa estate hanno creato una bellissima atmosfera come si vede nella foto che ho pubblicato su Instagram. (Eh sì, ho deciso di pubblicare foto anche li, almeno ogni tanto.)  Ieri abbiamo passato la giornata a riposare dopo la festa e a rimettere in ordine ma non ci è dispiaciuto affatto, anche perché la casa è piena di fiori portati dagli ospiti. Oggi siamo andati a Oldenburg per visitare la fiera internazionale della ceramica. Vi farò vedere alcune foto delle cose che mi sono piaciute di più in un altro post. Buona serata e buona settimana che inizia!

(EN) We had a wonderful time this weekend and I was so busy with all the things to do that I haven't had time to publish the pictures of my Saturday morning coffee until now. I think I'll add the link to Ninja's blog anyway. Friday night we had a party in the garden and we continued to sit outside eating and drinking even after the sunset. The garden lights that I bought last summer looked magical as you can see in my Instagram picture. (Yes, I've decided to publish pictures also there at least every now and then.) Yesterday we had to rest and clean up after the party but we really didn't mind, also because our house is full of flowers brought by the guests. Today we spent the afternoon in Oldenburg visiting the international ceramic fair. I'll show you some pictures later. Have a nice Sunday evening and a great new week!

Nuori ikäisekseen

(FI) Mittariin rapsahti tänään yksi vuosi lisää ja sehän tarkoittaa sitä, että saa lahjoja! Oikeastaan yllä olevan kuvan lahja saapui jo muutamaa päivää aiemmin ja on ehtinyt jo vilahtaa blogikuvissakin, ja toinen lahja saapui tänään toista kertaa, kun ensimmäisen kynttilälyhdyn ripustustanko oli niin vino, ettei lasia saanut paikoilleen. Pääasia kai kuitenkin lienee, että lahjat ovat erittäin mieluisia. Lisäksi on lohduttavaa, että Wishbone-tuoli on jo 65-vuotias muttei näytä pienimpiäkään ikääntymisen merkkejä. Niihin numeroihin itselläni on sentään vielä matkaa ja yritän ikääntyä yhtä arvokkaasti kuin tuolini.

(IT) Oggi ho compiuto gli anni il che vuol dire che potevo avere regali! A dire il vero, il regalo che si vede nella foto di sopra è arrivato già qualche giorno fa ed è già stata vista di sfuggita nelle foto e l'altro regalo è arrivato oggi per la seconda volta perché la prima volta il giancio era talmente storto che il vetro non entrava nel suo posto. Comunque la cosa più importante è che i regali sono piaciuti molto. È anche bello pensare che la sedia Wishbone ha già 65 anni e non li dimostra per nulla. Io ho ancora tanta strada da fare prima di raggiungere quella cifra e cercherò di arrivarci con altrettanta grazia.

(EN) Today is my birthday and that means that I got presents! Actually the present in the picture above arrived already a few days ago and you may have caught a glimpse of it in the blog pictures and the other present arrived today for the second time since the hanging handle was so twisted the first time that it was impossible to put the glass into its place. Anyhow, the most important thing is that I really like my presents. It's also great to know that the Wishbone chair is already 65 years old but it really doesn't show. I'm still far from those numbers and I'll try my best to age as gracefully as my chair.

Laskiaispullat

(FI) Laskiaispullat on jo syöty ja laskiastiistaikin tuli ja meni, mutta kirjoitan nyt vielä tännekin pullareseptin, joka on peräisin Herkkujen pikkujättiläinen -kirjasta. Peruspullataikinaan tulee:

1/2 litraa maitoa
50 g hiivaa
2 dl sokeria
1 rkl kardemummaa
noin 1 kg (15-16 dl) puolikarkeita vehnäjauhoja
200 g margariinia

Tästä puolikaskin riittää yhteen laskiaispullasatsiin, sillä puolen litran taikinastahan tulee noin 20-30 pullaa, mutta minä kyllä leivon aina samalla vaivalla koko annoksen. Mantelimassa sekoitetaan seuraavista aineksista:

100 g jauhettua mantelia
pullan sisustaa
1 dl sokeria
noin 1 dl kermaa

Väliin tulee lisäksi tietysti kermavaahtoa ja päälle ripaus tomusokeria koristeeksi. Itse en mitannut mantelimassan aineksia ja ainakin sokeria käytin reilusti ohjetta vähemmän. Meidän perheessä kolme neljäsosaa syö mieluummin mantelipullia ja yhdelle maistuu parhaiten hillopulla, joten niitäkin toki tehtiin.

(IT) Abbiamo già mangiato tutti i dolci di carnevale e anche il carnevale è già passato ma ecco la ricetta dei dolci che ho preparato, originalmente da un libro di cucina finlandese, Herkkujen pikkujättiläinen. Preparare prima un impasto normale con lievito di birra con i seguenti ingredienti e lasciarlo lievitare:

1/2 litri di latte
50 g di lievito di birra
2 dl di zucchero
1 cucchiai di cardamomo macinato
circa 1 kg (15-16 dl) di farina
200 g di margarina

Basta anche preparare solo la metà di questo impasto per fare i dolci ma io preparo sempre la porzione intera che basta per 20 - 30 panetti. Cuocere i panetti lievitati e spennellati con l'uovo a 225 gradi per circa 15 minuti. Tagliare i panetti raffreddati in due e togliere un po' di mollica dalla parte di sotto. Preparare la pasta di mandorla con:

100 g di mandorle tritate
la mollica tolta dai panetti
1 dl di zucchero
circa 1 dl di panna

Riempire i panetti con la pasta di mandorla e con panna montata e decorare con zucchero a velo. Io non ho misurato gli ingredienti quando ho preparato la pasta di mandorle ma ho sicuramente usato molto meno zucchero. La pasta di mandorle può anche essere sostituita con marmellata di fragole o lamponi.

(EN) We have already eaten all the carnival buns and also the carnival is over but here's anyway the recipe I used for baking these sweat treats. The recipe is originally from a Finnish cookbook called Herkkujen pikkujättiläinen. Prepare first a normal yeast dough with the following ingredients and let it rise.

1/2 liter of milk
50 g yeast
2 dl sugar
1 rkl ground cardamom
ca. 1 kg (15-16 dl) of flour
200 g margarine

It's enough the prepare half of this basic dough that makes 20 - 30 buns but I always prepare the whole amount. Let the buns rise, brush them with egg and bake in the oven for ca. 15 minutes in 225 °C. Let the buns cool, then cut the tops off. Scoop out the center of the buns and prepare the almond paste with the following ingredients:

100 g ground almonds
inside of the buns
1 dl sugar
ca. 1 dl cream

Fill the buns with the almond paste and whipped cream and decorate with powdered sugar. I didn't measure the ingredients of the almond paste but at least I used a lot less sugar. You can also fill the buns with strawberry or raspberry jam if you don't like the almond paste.

Brunssilla

(FI) Eilen ehdin ottaa nopeasti muutaman kuvan brunssipöytää kattaessani, joten tässä näkyy osa tarjoiluista. Sämpylät ja croissantit paistoin aamulla uunissa, ja kulhossa valkoisen pellavalautasliinan sisällä on kananmunia. Pöytään tuli vielä muun muassa erilaisia hilloja, tuoremehua, hunajamelonia ja tietysti kahvia. Olin ajatellut paistaa myös amerikkalaisia aamiaispannareita, mutta niiden tekeminen jäi, kun eräs ystäväpariskunnista toi mukanaan herkullisia suklaamuffineja. Esikoinen virkkasi kattausta koristamaan ihan omasta aloitteestaan lautasliinarenkaat paperinarusta. Muutaman tunnin syöpöttelyn ja seurustelun jälkeen olikin melkoisen täysi olo, joten sulattelimme iltapäivällä vieraiden lähdettyä ruokaa käymällä kävelyllä puistossa juuri ennen auringonlaskua. Onneksi ehdimme nauttia hetken ihanan aurinkoisesta päivästä, sillä tänään on taas taivas pilvessä ja ulkona ihan harmaata.

(IT) Ieri ho fatto veloce qualche foto mentre apparecchiavo quindi ecco una parte delle cose che abbiamo mangiato. Ho cotto i panini e le croissant nel forno in mattinata e nella ciotola dentro il tovagliono bianco di lino ci sono uova sode. Oltre alle cose che si vedono nelle foto c'erano tra l'altro marmellate di vari tipi, succo di frutta, melone e naturalmente caffè. Avevo l'intenzione di preparare anche pancakes americani ma ho lasciato perdere visto che una coppia di amici ha portato dei muffin al cioccolato buonissimi. La primogenita ha voluto fare portatovaglioli di nastro di carta lavorando all'uncinetto Dopo aver passato varie ore chiacchierando e mangiano a tavola ci sentivamo piuttosto sazi, quindi dopo che gli ospiti se n'erano andati abbiamo fatto una passeggiata al parco, giusto prima del tramonto quindi ci siamo ancora goduti la bella giornata di sole. Meno male, visto che oggi il cielo è coperto e la giornata grigia.

(EN) Yesterday I took a couple of quick pictures while setting the table so here you can see a part of the food we served for brunch. I baked the rolls and croissants in the oven in the morning and in a bowl inside the white linen napkin there are eggs. In addition to the things that you can see on the table we had different kinds of marmalade, juice, melon and of course coffee. I was planning on making also pancakes but decided not to after I heard that a couple of our friends was bringing some delicious chocolate muffins. Our older daughter had the idea of doing crocheted paper yarn napkin rings. After several hours of eating and chatting we were really full, so in the afternoon when the guest were gone we took a stroll in the park just before the sunset and enjoyed the beautiful sunny day a bit. I'm really happy we did, because today it's cloudy and pretty gray outside.

Glögiä ja joulutunnelmaa

(FI) Vietimme eilen ystävien kanssa meillä pikkujoulujuhlia, joten koti tuli vihdoin siivottua ja koristeltua joulukuntoon. Kuusia löytyy tänä vuonna vain sohvapöydältä, Marimekon sohvatyynystä ja ikkunalta, sillä päätimme jättää ison kuusen hankkimatta, kun ehtisimme kuitenkin nauttia siitä kovin vähän aikaa. Tyttäret koristelivat juhlia varten piparin poikineen ja glögiäkin meni illan mittaan aika monta pulloa. Ensi vuonna uudestaan!

(IT) Ieri abbiamo organizzato una piccola festa di natale a casa nostra quindi abbiamo finalmente pulito e decorato la casa per natale. Quest'anno abbiamo alberi solo sul tavolino, sul cuscino di Marimekko e sulla finestra perché avremmo comunque poco tempo per goderci l'albero grande. Le bambine hanno decorato tanti biscotti allo zenzero per la festa e abbiamo svuotato tante bottiglie di vin brulé durante la serata. Da rifare l'anno prossimo!

(EN) Yesterday we organized a little Christmas party at our home so we finally cleaned and decorated the house for Christmas. This year we have Christmas trees only on the coffee table, on the Marimekko cushion cover and on the window sill because we would have so too little time to enjoy a big tree. Our girls decorated loads of gingerbread biscuits for the party and we emptied quite many bottles of mulled wine during the evening. Let's party again next year!

Syytä juhlaan

Kuten joku jo tietääkin, olen ollut tämän vuoden opintovapaalla ja eilen sain vihdoin gradun lopullisen version matkaan. Juhlin asiaa iltapäivällä käymällä kampaajalla, ja illalla menimme perheen kesken syömään erääseen lempiravintoloistamme, ristorante Napoliin. Grigliata mista di pesce oli niin herkullista, että tilaan sitä varmasti toistekin. Harmi, ettei tullut napattua annoksesta kuvaa edes kännykkäkäameralla. Illalla kotiin tultuamme kaupunki juhlisti vielä päivää ilotulituksella, jota ihailimme makuuhuoneen ikkunasta. Joku saattoi toki ajatella sen liittyvän eilen alkaneeseen Freimarktiin, mutta joka tapauksessa raketit sattuivat lentämään taivaalle harvinaisen sopivalla hetkellä.

Come alcuni di voi già sanno, ho passato quest'anno finendo i miei studi e ieri ho finalmente mandato la versione finale della tesi di laurea. Ho festeggiato nel pomeriggio andando dal parrucchiere  e la sera siamo andati al ristorante Napoli che è uno dei nostri preferiti qui a Brema. Ho mangiato una grigliata mista di pesce davvero ottima. Peccato che non ho fatto una foto del piatto con la macchina fotografica del telefonino. Quando siamo tornati la casa la città mi ha festeggiata ancora con i fuochi d'artificio. Certo, qualcuno può pensare che erano per l'inizio di Freimarkt, ma in ogni caso il tempismo era perfetto.

As some of you already know, I've been on a study leave this year and yesterday I finally sent my master's thesis final version. I celebrated in the afternoon by myself and went to the hairdresser's and in the evening we went in one of our favourite restaurants here, ristorante Napoli. I had grigliata mista di pesce and it was so delicious I felt like being in Italy. It's a pity I didn't take a picture of the dish with the mobile phone camera. When we got back home after the dinner the city continued the celebration with fireworks. Well, someone might think that it was only for the beginning of this year's Freimarkt, but anyway the timing was just perfect.

Herkkulounas

Juhlimme tänään ystävien kanssa Saksan jälleenyhdistymistä ja yleistä vapaapäivää neljän jälkiruoan lasagnelounaalla. Kiitos kuvista kuuluu yhdelle vieraista, sillä emäntä ei tietenkään taas ehtinyt ottaa kameraa missään vaiheessa käteen. Huomenna suuntaamme aamiaisen jälkeen Berliiniin, joten toivottelen jo nyt mukavaa viikonloppua!

Oggi abbiamo festeggiato con gli amici la rinunificazione tedesca e la giornata festiva mangiando per pranzo lasagne, insalata e quattro tipi di dolce. Per le foto devo ringraziare uno degli ospiti perché non ho avuto tempo per prendere la macchina fotografica in mano. Domani partiamo per Berlino dopo la colazione quindi vi auguro già un buon fine settimana!

Today we celebrated with our friends the German reunification and the public holiday and had lasagne, salad and four different kinds of dessert for lunch. The pictures are by one of the guests (thank you!) since I never seem to manage to take any pictures myself when we have guests. Tomorrow we will head towards Berlin after the breakfast so I wish you already a nice weekend!

Juhlia ja lahjoja

Meidän pikkuinen ei ole enää niin kovin pieni, sillä hän täytti eilen yhdeksän vuotta. Varsinaiset juhlat kavereille pidetään vasta sunnuntaina, mutta kuopuksen koulussa synttärisankareita juhlitaan myös koulupäivän aikana. Sankari saa puhaltaa kynttilöitä, hänelle lauletaan ja koulun puolesta tulee jopa pieni lahja. Sankari puolestaan vie luokkatovereille makeisia - meidän neiti päätyi tikkareihin. Kuvassa olevan kukan sankari sai käydessämme lähikukkakaupasta, ja illalla juhlimme vielä oman perheen kesken kotona syömällä pizzaa. Joku ystävällinen sielu oli sitä mieltä, että äitikin ansaitsee lahjan, ja jätti tien viereen pari vanhaa kehystettyä kukkataulua, jotka nappasin talteen ja kuvasin vierashuoneen sängyllä, vaikka lopullinen ripustuspaikka on vielä auki. Raahasin tauluja mukana kaupungilla ensin tyttären soittotunnille ja sitten vielä balettiin, mutta niinhän se on, ettei mitään saa ilmaiseksi.

La nostra piccola non è più tanto piccola visto che ha compiuto nove anni ieri. La festa per gli amici la faremo domenica ma nella sua scuola si festeggiano i compleanni anche durante la giornata. Il festeggiato soffia sulle candeline, gli cantano "Tanti auguri a te" e riceve pure un piccolo regalo. In compenso deve portare qualche dolcetto ai compagni di classe e mia figlia ha voluto portare dei lecca lecca. Il fiore che si vede nella foto glielo hanno regalato quando siamo passati dal fioraio vicino, e la sera abbiamo festeggiato a casa mangiando la pizza. Qualcuno è stato così gentile a pensare che anche la mamma merita un regalo e ha lasciato due quadri di fiori sulla strada. Li ho fotografati nella stanza degli ospiti ma non so se resteranno lì. Ho dovuto portare i quadri in giro per la città, prima alla lezione di flauto di mia figlia e poi ancora a danza, ma come si dice, senza fatica non si ottiene nulla.

Our little one is not so little anymore since she turned nine yesterday. The party for the friends will take place on Sunday but at her school they have a small party for everyone's birthday. The birthday child blows out candles, the other kids sing "Happy Birthday" and the school even gives a small gift. The birthday child always brings sweets to the classmates so my daughter took them lollipops. She got the flower in the picture when we stopped by at the nearby flower shop, and in the evening we celebrated at home eating pizza. Someone was kind enough to think that also the mother deserves a gift and left two framed flower pictures on the street. I took them home and in the picture they're in the guest room, even though I'm not quite sure yet where we will hang them. I had to carry the pictures around, first to my daughter's flute lesson and then to the ballet class, but nothing in life comes for free as they say.

Äitienpäivän aamuna

Sain aamulla luvan nousta vasta yhdeksän jälkeen, kun tämä luomus oli valmis. Hyvää äitienpäivää!

I was allowed to wake up only after nine o'clock this morning when this treat was ready. Happy Mother's Day!

Tuparit

Vappu ja tuparit on nyt vietetty ja kyllä oli mukava päivä, vaikka tänä aamuna olimme aika väsynyttä porukkaa. Mukana juhlimassa oli uusia ja vanhoja ystäviä Saksasta, Espanjasta, Italiasta, Puolasta, Suomesta, Australiasta ja Thaimaasta, joten aika kansainvälinen joukko oli kasassa. Kauniiden kattauskuvien sijaan näytän, miltä ruokasalissa näytti myöhään illalla juhlien päätyttyä, sillä en tietenkään ehtinyt ottaa kameraa käteen ennen vieraiden saapumista (vietin nimittäin aamun paistaen munkkeja). Fiksut vieraat lahjoivat meitä tavaran sijaan syötävällä ja juotavalla, kukilla ja suklaalla, ja nyt parvekkeellakin on jo yksi kukka sekä ihana oliivipuu. Seuraavaksi täytyy tosin suunnata jälleen ruukkuostoksille ;)

Abbiamo passato una giornata bellissima festeggiando il primo maggio e la nostra nuova casa, anche se stamattina eravamo tutti piuttosto stanchi. Tra gli ospiti c'erano vecchi e nuovi amici dalla Germania, Spagna, Italia, Polonia, Finlandia, Australia e Thailandia quindi eravamo veramente un gruppo internazionale. Non ho belle foto del tavolo apparecchiato perché non ho fatto in tempo a tirare fuori la macchina fotografica (ho passato la mattina preparando frittelle), invece vi faccio vedere com'era la sala di pranzo la sera tardi quando la festa era già finita. Gli ospiti sono stati veramente bravi e ci hanno portato cibi e bevande, fiori e cioccolato invece di roba per la casa. Ora abbiamo un fiore e un olivo sul balcone ma servono altri vasi ;)

We had a great time celebrating the 1st of May and our new house, even if we were all quite tired this morning. The guests were old and new friends from Germany, Spain, Italy, Poland, Finland, Australia and Thailand so we were pretty international. I can't show you beautiful pictures of the table full of delicious food since I didn't have time to take out the camera before the guests arrived (I was baking doughnuts all morning) but I show you what the dining room looked like in the evening when the party was over. The guests were really smart and didn't bring us any stuff for the house but only food and beverages, flowers and chocolate. Now we have even a flower and an olive tree on the balcony. I just really need to go and buy a couple of new vases for them ;)

Yksivuotias!

Blogini täyttää tänään vuoden, ja täytyy sanoa, että onpa aika mennyt nopeasti! Juhlan kunniaksi leivoin sitruuna-marenkitortun ja tarjoan teille lukijoillekin virtuaalisen kakunpalan. Oggi il mio blog compie un anno e devo dire che il tempo è volato! Per festeggiare ho fatto una torta al limone e meringa e offro a ogni lettore una fetta di torta virtuale. Grazie a tutti quelli che seguono i post e un ringraziamento speciale a tutti quelli che si fermano anche a scrivere un commento! È sempre bello leggerli. Devo confessare che ho ordinato ieri anche un regalino da Finnish Design Shop (c'era lo sconto di 20 percento su tutto) ma lo farò vedere quando arriva.

Today my blog is 1 year old and I have to say that time really has flown! I baked a lemon and meringue pie for the occation and would like to offer a virtual piece to every reader. Thank you to all of you that read the posts and thanks especially to those who leave a comment! It's always really nice to read them. I have to admit that I ordered from the Finnish Design Shop (they had a 20 % discount on all the products) also a gift for the 1-year-old but I'll show it as soon as it arrives.
