Meridiani Showroom - taidetta ja designia

(FI) Milano oli designviikolla tuttuun tapaan täynnä toinen toistaan upeampia installaatioita ja näyttelyitä, mutta itselleni eräs inspiroivimmista hetkistä oli vierailu Corso Venezian varrella sijaitsevalla Meridianin showroomilla. Upeassa vanhassa huoneistossa oli pari isoa salimaista tilaa ja useita pieniä huoneita, ja jokaisen sisustus oli viimeistä yksityiskohtaa mietitty tunnelmallinen kokonaisuus.

Meridiani on Laura Ferraro Crostin vuonna 1996 perustama yritys, jonka luovana johtajana ja suunnittelijana toimii Andrea Parisio. Johtavana ajatuksena suunnittelussa on ajaton tyylikkyys, joka on yksinkertaista olematta liian riisuttua ja modernia muttei muotivirtausten vietävissä.

Showroomin harmonisen sisustuksen kruunasi jokaisesta tilasta löytynyt moderni taide. Showroom tekee yhteistyötä taidegallerian kanssa ja asiasta hyötyvät kaikki osapuolet: galleria saa teokset esille kodinomaiseen ympäristöön, asiakkaat näkevät, miltä taulut näyttävät sisustuksen osana, ja showroomin näyttelystä tulee taiteen ansiosta astetta valmiimpi ja tyylikkäämpi kokonaisuus. Tauluja menee kuulemma myös kaupaksi suoraan showroomin seiniltä.

Kuvitelkaapa näiden kuvien sisustukset ilman tauluja, niin huomaatte, miten paljon taide muuttaa sisustuksen tunnelmaa ja antaa tiloille luonnetta. Kovin paljaita ja hengettömiä olisivat kokonaisuudet tyhjillä seinillä. Upeat ja huolella kuhunkin paikkaan valitut italialaiset designvalaisimet tietysti luovat vielä tässä viimeisen silauksen ja ovat varsinainen piste i:n päälle.

Tähän Fuorisalonen kohteeseen ei tarvinnut jonottaa ja huoneita sai kierrellä kaikessa rauhassa, nautiskellen jokaisesta yksityiskohdasta, hienostuneista värisävyistä ja harmonisesta tunnelmasta. Valokuvaustakin häiritsi ainoastaan heijastavilla pinnoilla näkynyt omakuva, jonka tarkkaavainen löytää yhdestä postauksen kuvista. ;) Ensi vuonna ehdottomasti uudestaan!

(IT) Durante la settimana del design Milano era come al solito piena di istallazioni e mostre stupende ma per me uno dei momenti più belli e ispiranti è stata la visita nello showroom di Meridiani in Corso Venezia. L'appartamento vecchio e stupendo consisteva in un paio di stanze grandi e varie stanzette e ciascuna era arredata scegliendo con cura anche i minimi dettagli.

L'azienda Meridiani è stata fondata  Laura Ferraro Crosti nel 1996 e come direttore artistico e designer dell'azienda ha Andrea Parisio. L'idea portante del design è l'eleganza atemporale che è semplice senza essere troppo clinica e moderna ma non guidata da mode passeggeri.

L'arredamento armonioso dello showroom era completato con arte moderna. Lo showroom collabora con una galleria d'arte e questa collaborazione è utile per tutte le parti coinvolte: la galleria può presentare le opere in un ambiente che è simile a una casa, i clienti vedono i quadri come parte dell'arredamento e lo showroom diventa  un insieme ancora più rifinito ed elegante, grazie all'arte esposta. Succede anche che qualcuno compra un quadro avendolo visto nello showroom.

Se immaginate queste foto senza i quadri, notate bene quanto l'arte cambi l'atmosfera e contribuisca allo stile degli spazi. L'arredamento sembrerebbe veramente mancare qualcosa di importante se le pareti fossero vuote. L'ultimo tocco è qui naturalmente dato dalle belle lampade di design, scelte con cura per il posto in cui si trovano.

Non c'era bisogno di fare la coda per visitare questo evento di Fuorisalone e ho potuto girare le stanze senza fretta, godendo ogni dettaglio, i toni sofisticati e l'atmosfera armoniosa. L'unica cosa che ha disturbato la fotografia era il mio riflesso su alcune superfici, in effetti lo si può vedere anche in una delle foto di questo post. ;) In questo showroom ci tornerò senz'altro anche l'anno prossimo!

(EN) During the Milan Design Week the city was, as usual, full of wonderful installations and exhibitions but for me one of the most inspiring moments was my visit to Meridiani Showroom in Corso Venezia. The beautiful old apartment consisted in a couple of big rooms and various smaller ones and the whole interior was planned carefully to the smallest detail.

Meridiani is a company founded by Laura Ferraro Crosti in 1996 and Andrea Parisio works as the art director and designer of the brand. The leading idea behind the design is timeless elegance that's simple without being too bare and modern but not guided by passing trends.

The harmonious interior of the showroom was crowned by modern art that could be found in every space. The showroom collaborates with an art gallery and this benefits all parts: the gallery can show their artwork in a home-like environment, the clients can see the pictures as part of an interior and the showroom becomes even more finished and elegant thanks to all the art. It also happens that people want to buy something after they have seen it on the showroom walls.

Imagine how the interiors in the pictures would look like without the pictures and you will notice how big an influence art has on the mood and feel of a space. The interior would really lack something important if the walls were plain and empty. And the stunning Italian design lights, carefully chosen for each spot, add the finishing touch to this showroom.

There was no need to queue for visiting this Fuorisalone event and I could walk around the place with no hurry, enjoying every beautiful detail, the sophisticated tones and the harmonious atmosphere. The only thing that disturbed me while taking pictures was my own reflection on some surfaces, you can even find it in one of the pictures of this post. ;) This is a place I will certainly visit also next year!

Talvinen olohuone

(FI) Vaihdoin olohuoneeseen loppuviikosta meidän talvimaton, eli musta-beige-kuvioidun villamaton. Kuvissa matto näyttää jostain syystä aina paljon vaaleammalta kuin on, sillä oikeasti yleisvaikutelma on varsin tumma. Sohvan yläpuolella ollut vihreäsävyinen kukkataulu näytti kokonaisuudessa ihan hassulta, eikä kotoa löytynyt oikein muutakaan sopivaa taulua, joten maalasin sellaisin sitten itse. Maalasin taustan ensin hieman sävytetyllä valkoisella akryylivärillä ja kuusta varten sekoitin mustaa ja sinistä. Vähän puussa olisi vielä korjailtavia kohtia, mutta jollei katso liian kriittisesti, niin ihan kivalta näyttää. Taulu tuo huoneeseen hieman joulufiilistä, muttei liian alleviivatusti, ja muu perhekin kuulemma tykkää :)

(IT) Durante il fine settimana ho messo in soggiorno il nostro tappeto invernale, cioè un tappeto in lana con un motivo classico in nero e beige. Nelle foto sembra sempre più chiaro di quello che è in realtà. Il quadro verde chiaro coi fiori che stava sopra il divano non ci stava più per nulla e visto che non avevamo neanche altri quadri che ci stessero meglio ne ho dipinto uno nuovo. Il fondo l'ho fatto quasi bianco e l'abete è dipinto con colore nero misto con blu. Ci sono un po' di dettagli che potrei migliorare ma se non si guarda con occhio troppo critico mi sembra ci stia bene. Porta un po' di atmosfera di natale ma non in modo troppo sottolineato e piace anche agli altri membri della nostra famiglia. :)

(EN) During the weekend I put our winter carpet in the living room. It's a wool carpet with a classic pattern in black and beige. For some reason it looks quite light in pictures while it's actually quite dark in real life. The light green painting with flowers hanging above the sofa didn't fit in at all and since we didn't have other good options either, I painted a new one. The background is almost white and the spruce is painted with black paint mixed with some blue. There are some parts that could be fixed a bit but if you don't look at the painting with a critical eye I think it looks good enough. It gives the room a bit X-mas feel but not in too obvious a way, and also the other members of our family seem to appreciate it. :)

Taiteen värittämä koti Bremenissä

(FI) Kuvasin jo loppusyksystä ystäväpariskunnan kauniin kodin, jonka tunnelman luo seinille ripustettu värikäs taide. Kuvat jäivät silloin julkaisematta, sillä en ole ilman jalustaa otettujen kuvien laatuun ihan tyytyväinen, mutta koska koti on kuitenkin esittelyn arvoinen, päästän teidät taas pienelle kotikierrokselle. Elina, jonka lähisuvussa on useita taiteilijoita, on ammatiltaan graafinen suunnittelija, ja se näkyy muun muassa seinien ja verhojen huolella valituissa hienostuneissa sävyissä. Näyttävät maalaukset ovat Elinan isän, latvialaisen taiteilijan Ivars Poikansin sarjasta "The Vegetables in Space" vuodelta 2008. Ruokapöydällä olevan hauskan puisen hedelmäkulhon taas on suunnitellut ja valmistanut Elinan serkku, Janis Straupe. Olohuoneessa olevat Ikean kattovalaisimet saivat persoonallisen ilmeen, kun Elina maalaasi niiden sisäpuolen spraymaalilla kuparin väriseksi. Makuuhuoneen katosta roikkuu kaunis paperinen origamivalaisin. Ylimmän kerroksen asunnon luksusta on tilava terassi, jolla Elina kasvattaa ruukkupuutarhassa kukkien lisäksi erilaisia yrttejä. Vaikka pariskunta on viihtynyt täällä erinomaisesti, haussa on uusi, hieman suurempi asunto. Pääsen siis lähitulevaisuudessa toivottavasti seuraamaan, millaiseksi seuraavan kodin sisustus muotoutuu.

(IT) Ho fotografato già in autunno la bella casa dei nostri amici dove l'atmosfera è creata dall'arte dei colori vivaci appesa alle pareti. Non ho pubblicato le foto subito perché non sono proprio contentissima della qualità delle foto fatte senza treppiedi ma siccome la casa merita di essere presentata vi porto a farci un giro. La padrona di questa casa, Elina viene da una famiglia di artisti e lei stessa è graphic designer il che si vede tra l'altro nei colori eleganti delle pareti e delle tende scelti con cura. I quadri sono dipinti dal padre di Elina, artista lettone Ivars Poikans, e fanno parte della serie "The Vegetables in Space" dal 2008. Il centrotavola in legno invece è fatto dal cugino di Elina, Janis Straupe. Elina ha personalizzato le lampade di Ikea usate nel soggiorno verniciando l'interno con vernice a spray color rame. Nella camera da letto c'è una bella lampada origami fatta di carta. Il lusso di questo appartamento è la spaziosa terrazza dove Elina cresce nei vasi fiori e vari tipi di erbe per la cucina. Anche se la coppia si è trovata benissimo in questa casa, è arrivato il momento di cercare una nuova casa un po' più spaziosa. Speriamo quindi che presto potrò seguire come si sviluppa l'arredamento della nuova casa.

(EN) Last autumn I took some pictures of our friends' beautiful home where the art creates the mood of the interior but didn't publish them because I'm not completely happy about the quality of the images taken without a tripod. Anyhow, the home is really worth seeing so I'm taking you on a small home tour today.  The lady of the house, Elina, comes from a family of artists and she's a graphic designer herself, a fact that shows for example in the carefully chosen sophisticated tones of the walls and curtains. The paintings are by Elina's father Ivars Poikans who is a Latvian artist and they are part of "The Vegetables is Space" series from 2008. The beautiful wooden fruit bowl on the dining table is made by Elina's cousin, Janis Straupe. Elina personalized the living room Ikea lamps by painting the inside with copper coloured spray paint. In the bedroom there's a beautiful hanging paper origami lamp. The specialty of this penthouse apartment is a spacious rooftop terrace where Elina grows flowers and different kinds of herbs in a pot garden. Even though the couple really enjoys living in this apartment it's time for them to look for a new bigger home so hopefully I'll soon be able to follow the decorating project in  their next home.

Taidemuseo ARoS

(FI) Käydessäni joulun alla Tanskassa vietin puolikkaan päivää Aarhusin taidemuseossa ARoSissa. Museo on eräs Euroopan suurimmista taidemuseoista ja tarjoaa taide-elämysten lisäksi mielenkiintoista nähtävää modernin arkkitehtuurin ystäville. Museon kahvilassa sai kahvin lisäksi kevyttä lounasruokaa, ja museokauppa oli vaarallisen täynnä ihanaa tanskalaista designia. Joulukuussa ARoSissa oli esillä mm. ranskalaisten impressionistien teoksia sekä kiinalaisen nykytaiteen näyttely A New Dynasty - Created in China, joka oli minusta erityisen kiinnostava. Ehdin nähdä myös Ai Weiwein installaation Yu Yi, jonka taiteilija on sittemmin poistanut näyttelystä protestina Tanskan uudelle "korulaille". Tekin pääsette näin kuvien välityksellä kurkistamaan valtavan kokoista leijuvaa hahmoa, jonka valojen väri vaihtui hitaasti. Jättikokoiselta eläimen taljalta näyttävä Xu Bingin teos 1st Class on koottu 500 000 kiinalaisesta savukkeesta. Tilassa ei ollut muuten kovin raikkaan tuntuinen ilma... En tiedä, mikä minuun on iskenyt, mutta kameran linssi on tarkentunut viime museovisiiteillä myös aiemmin nopeasti sivuuttamiini kukkatauluihin, Niin kävi tälläkin kertaa, mutta ovathan nuo kukat aika upeita. :) ARoSissa käydessä kannattaa ehdottomasti kiivetä myös rakennuksen katolla olevalle kehän muotoiselle näköalatalanteelle, jolta voi katsella kaupunkimaisemia kaikissa sateenkaaren väreissä. Vuonna 2011 avattu Your rainbow panorama on tanskalais-islantilaisen Olafur Eliassonin suunnittelema taideteos.

(IT) Quando sono andata in Danimarca prima di natale ho passato la metà di una giornata al museo d'arte di Aarhus ovvero ARoS. Il museo è uno dei più grandi musei d'arte in Europa e oltre all'arte offre anche cose da vedere per gli appassionati di architettura. Nel caffè si poteva anche pranzare e il negozio del museo offriva una bella selezione di design danese. In Dicembre all'ARoS c'erano esposte tra l'altro opere da impressionisti francesi e una mostra sull'arte contemporanea cinese dal titolo A New Dynasty - Created in China che ho trovato molto interessante. Ho fatto in tempo a vedere l'istallazione Yu Yi di Ai Weiwei che l'artista ha ora tolto come protesta verso la nuova legge danese sui beni dei profughi. Ora anche voi potete vedere nelle foto la sagoma enorme le cui luci cambiavano lentamente colore. L'opera di Xu Bing che sembra una pelle di animale si intitola 1st Class ed è fatta di 500 000 sigarette cinesi. Devo dire che l'aria nella stanza non era molto fresca... Non so che mi sta succedendo, ma ultimamente  ho cominciato a scattare foto dei quadri di fiori nei musei anche se prima li superavo a passo veloce. È successo anche questa volta, ma questi fiori sono proprio belli, no? Se andate a visitare ARoS vale proprio la pena di salire sul tetto per vedere la galleria panoramica circolare da cui si può vedere la città in tutti i colori dell'arcobaleno. Your rainbow panorama è stata aperta nel 2011, ed è stata creata dall'artista danese-islandese Olafur Eliasson.

(EN) When I visited Denmark just before Christmas I spent half a day at Aarhus art museum ARoS. The museum is one of the biggest art museums in Europe and besides art it offers also plenty to see to those interested in modern architecture. The museum cafe offered also a light salad lunch and the shop was full of wonderful Danish design. In December in ARoS were on view, among other things,  paintings by French Impressionists and an exhibition on Chinese contemporary art that I found really interesting. I managed to see also the installation Yu Yi by Ai Weiwei that the artist has now removed as a protest against the new Danish refugee policy. Now also you're able to see this giant figure with lights that changed slowly their colour. The installation that seems a huge animal skin is called 1st Class and it's made of 500 000 Chinese cigarettes. The air in that space didn't feel very fresh I must say... I don't know what's happening but lately I have started taking pictures of flower paintings in the museums even though I used to barely look at them. It happened also this time but you can't deny that these flowers are really pretty, can you? :) If you visit ARoS art museum it's really worth the effort to climb on the roof of the building to see the circular walkway with a view over the city in all the colours of the rainbow. Your panorama rainbow was opened in 2011 and it's designed by Danish-Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson.

Ruokasalin tauluseinä

(FI) Valmista tuli vihdoin, nimittäin ruokasalin tauluseinästä. Muuten huoneessa on vielä pieniä juttuja kesken, mutta kyllä yksikin loppuun asti saatettu projekti piristää kummasti. Suunnittelin taulujen järjestyksen ennen ripustamista valmiiksi asettelemalla ne vierashuoneen parisängylle. Lähtökohtana oli se, että suurin taulu tuli keskelle alas. Yksi pieni grafiikkatyö jäi kokonaisuudesta yli, en saanut sitä millään sopimaan mukaan, mutta eihän kaikkien taulujen ole aina pakko olla esillä. Erään pikku taulun osa teistä saattaa tunnistaakin. Minua onnisti viime kesänä, sillä voitin juuri uuteen osoitteeseen siirtyneen blogisuosikkini Valkoisen Harmajan 5-vuotissynttäriarvonnassa Juhani Melenderin kauniin Kolmioleikki-taulun. Pieni mustakehyksinen värikäs työ tauluryhmän keskellä antaa kokonaisuudelle juuri sopivasti ryhtiä ja särmää. Kiitos vielä Suville upeasta voitosta!

(IT) Eccola finalmente la nostra galleria a parete nella sala da pranzo. Ci sono ancora alcune cose da sistemare nella stanza ma è bello avere già qualcosa di pronto. Prima di appendere il quadri li ho sistemati sul letto matrimoniale nella stanza per gli ospiti, partendo dal quadro grande che volevo posizionare in centro in basso. Non sono riuscita a trovare un posto adatto per una stampa piccola ma mica tutti i quadri devono sempre essere esposti. Alcuni di voi forse riconoscono uno dei quadri. Sono stata proprio fortunata la scorsa estate e ho vinto il bellissimo quadro Gioco dei triangoli di Juhani Melender nel giveaway organizzato dal blog Valkoinen Harmaja che si è tra l'altro appena trasferito in un nuovo portale. Il piccolo quadro dai colori vivaci con la cornice nera dà ritmo e contrasto al tutto il gruppo di quadri. Grazie ancora a Suvi per la vincita!

(EN) Our dining room gallery wall is finally ready. We still have to finish some things in the room but it's so great to have at least one project finished. Before hanging the pictures I arranged them on the guest room bed starting from the biggest picture that I wanted to have down in the center. I wasn't able to find a good place for one small picture but not all the artwork have to be always on display. Some of you might recognize one of the pictures. I was really lucky last summer and won Juhani Melender's beautiful painting Playing triangles in a giveaway organized by the lovely blog Valkoinen Harmaja that has by the way just moved to a new address. The colourful picture with a black frame gives a perfect contrast and balance to the whole group of pictures. Thank you again Suvi for this wonderful treasure!

Olohuoneen uusi taulu

(FI) Viikonlopun järkyttävät tapahtumat Pariisissa jättivät jotenkin tyhjän ja voimattoman olon. Parasta tässä tilanteessa taitaa kuitenkin olla yrittää keskittyä muihin asioihin, joten tässä nyt vähän ajankohtaista sisustusasiaa meidän kotoa, vaikkeivät marraskuun harmaassa otetut kuvat ihan priimaa olekaan. Sain vihdoin kaksi ystäväni Vivianan piirustusta kehystämöstä ja toinen tauluista sopii todella kivasti olohuoneeseen sohvan yläpuolelle. Taulu on nyt vanhan naulan varassa ja aion siirtää sitä vähän ylemmäs, jotta kuva on seistessä katselukorkeudella. Kaivoin viikonloppuna jo lampaantaljat esiin ja beigen sävyinen päätyi jälleen sohvan nurkkaan. Vuoden ensimmäinen valkoinen amaryllis on jo sohvapöydällä ja sen ensimmäiset kukat aukeavat varmaan aika sopivasti adventiksi. Toinen Vivianan tauluista päätyy ruokasaliin, jonne on tarkoitus koota galleriaseinä, kunhan aika antaa periksi. Siellä ripustamista odottaa eräs toinenkin kaunis taulu, jonka sain viime kesänä. Siitä lisää, kun ripustushommat on hoidettu. Olen muuten auttanut Vivianaa perustamaan oman blogin, jossa hän voi vihdoin esitellä taidettaan pysyvästi. Suuri osa  hänen kauniista töistään ovat nimittäin yleensä varastossa ja minusta on todella sääli pitää niitä katseilta piilossa. Vivianan blogiin pääsee tästä.

(IT) Gli avventimenti terribili a Parigi durante il fine settimana mi hanno lasciato una sensazione di vuoto e mi manca l'energia. Penso che la cosa migliore sia comunque di cercare di concentrarsi su altre cose quindi ecco qualche novità a casa nostra anche se le foto fatte al buio non sono il massimo. Ho finalmente fatto incorniciare due disegni fatti dalla mia amica Viviana e uno dei disegni sta proprio bene in soggiorno sopra il divano. Ora è appeso nel chiodo che c'era già quindi voglio alzare il quadro un po' in modo che sia sull'altezza ideale quando si entra nella stanza. Durante il fine settimana ho tirato fuori le pelli di pecora e quella beige sta ora sul divano. Sul tavolino c'è il primo amarillo bianco di quest'anno e penso che i fiori si apriranno giusto per la prima domenica dell'avvento. L'altro quandro di Viviana sarà situato nella sala da pranzo dove voglio fare una parete con tanti quadri appena avremo tempo per realizzarla. Ci aspetta già anche un altro quadro piccolo nuovo molto carino. Ve lo farò vedere quando la parete sarà pronta. A proposito, ho aiutato Viviana a fare un blog dove può far vedere la sua arte in modo permanente. Tante delle sue bellissime opere stanno normalmente in ripostiglio dove nessuno le può vedere e mi sembrava veramente un peccato. Clicca qui per andare al blog di Viviana.

(EN) The terrible things that happened in Paris last weekend have left me feeling empty and powerless. Anyhow, I think the best thing to do is to try to focus on other things so here's some decoration news from our home even though the pictures taken on a dark November day are far from perfect. I have finally had my friend Viviana's two drawings framed and one of them is pretty perfect for the living room. At the moment it's still hanging on the old nail but I will adjust its height so that it's on the eye level when you walk into the room. During the weekend I took out the sheep skins and put the beige one on the couch. There's also this year's first white amaryllis on the coffee table and it looks like the first flowers will open right for the first Advent Sunday. Viviana's other drawing will be hung in the dining room where we intend to have a gallery wall as soon as we have time to do it. We will hang there also another beautiful small picture that I got last summer. I'll show it to you when the gallery wall is ready. By the way, I have helped Viviana to start blogging so that she can show her art on regular basis. Borrowed Shapes - arkkitehtuuria kuvina

(FI) Bremenissä ehtii vielä parin viikon ajan katsomaan Eiko Grimbergin kiinnostavaa video- ja valokuvanäyttelyä Borrowed Shapes. Kävin itse näyttelyn avajaisissa ja pääsin juttelemaan taiteilijan kanssa. Hän kertoi tutkineensa aiemmin 60-luvun italialaista rationalismia New Orleansissa ja Modenassa, ja uusi näyttely on aiemman työn jatkumo. "Nyt kohteena on espanjalaisen arkkitehdin Ricardo Bofillin 80-luvun eklektismiä edustava postmoderni arkkitehtuuri Ranskassa. Tyyli poikkeaa italialaisesta, sillä Bofillin arkkitehtuurissa on viitteitä niin antiikkiin kuin myös Ranskan vallankumouksen aikaiseen arkkitehtuuriin." Rakennusten julkisivuissa näkyy koristeellisia elementtejä kuten pylväitä ja kapiteeleja, jotka tuovat mieleen antiikin temppelit ja teatterit. Julkisivut ovat kuitenkin ristiriidassa rakennusten sisätilojen kanssa. Kyse on usein työväestölle esikaupunkiin edullisesti elementeistä rakennetuista asuintaloista, jotka ovat sisältä hyvin vaatimattomia. (IT) A Brema si può vedere ancora per un paio di settimana l'interessante mostra Borrowed Shapes di Eiko Grimberg che consiste in un videosaggio e alcune fotografie. Io sono stata già all'inaugurazione e ho potuto parlare un po' con l'artista. Mi ha raccontato che ha studiato prima il razionalismo italiano degli anni '60 a New Orleans e a Modena e il lavoro continua in questa mostra. "Ora il soggetto è l'architettura postmoderna dell'architetto spagnolo Ricardo Bofill in Francia. Rappresenta l'eclettismo degli anni '80. Lo stile si differenzia da quello italiano perché nell'architettura di Bofill si fa allusione sia all'antichità che all'architettura del periodo della Rivoluzione francese". Nelle facciate degli edifici ci sono elementi decorativi come colonne e capitelli che richiamano templi e teatri antichi. Le facciate sono però in contraddizione con gli interni degli edifici. Spesso si tratta di palazzi costruiti in modo economico in periferia per la classe operaia e gli interni sono molto modesti. La superficie decorativa copre e nasconde dentro di sé la vera storia degli edifici e dei loro abitanti.

(EN) You can still see for a couple of weeks in Bremen Eiko Grimberg's interesting video and photography exhibition Borrowed Shapes. I have been to the opening and had the chance to talk with the artist. He told me that he had previously studied 1960's Italian rationalism in New Orleans and Modena and this exhibition is a continuation of the previous work. "Now the subject is Spanish architect Ricardo Bofill's postmodern architecture in France. It represents 1980's eclecticism. The style is different from the Italian because Bofill's architecture makes allusions both to antiquity and to the architecture in the period of French Revolution." In the facades there are decorative elements like columns and capitals that recall classical temples and theaters. Anyhow, the facades are inconsistent with the interiors of the buildings. Many of the buildings were put up inexpensively in the suburbs as housing for the working class and the interiors are very modest. The decorative surface covers and hides the real history of the buildings and their inhabitants.

Kirjastohuoneessa

(FI) Yleisön pyynnöstä esittelen lisää blogissa harvemmin nähtyjä nurkkia. Tässä siis olohuoneen jatkeena oleva yhdistetty kirjasto- musiikki- ja työhuone, joka on kirjojen ansiosta lastenhuoneiden jälkeen kodin värikkäin tila. Siirsin Diamond-tuolin vaihteeksi kirjahyllyn eteen lukupaikaksi natisevan ja heiluvan Domuksen tilalle, mutta nyt on olohuoneessa yksi mukava istumapaikka vähemmän. Täytyy kai ryhtyä heti ensi tilassa liimaamaan Domuksen liitoksia, jotta siinä uskaltaa kunnolla istua. Tai sitten voisin ryhtyä metsästämään jotain ihanaa vintagenojatuolia... ;) Lundian hyllyn keskimmäisten uusia tummempien ovien lakkaus on työlistalla, kunhan kellari lämpenee sen verran, että siellä tarkenee olla hommissa.

(IT) A grande richiesta vi faccio vedere anche altri angoli della casa che di solito non si vedono spesso nel blog. Ecco quindi la biblioteca che funziona anche da stanza per la musica e studio che, grazie ai libri, è lo spazio con più colori della nostra casa, almeno dopo le stanza delle figlie. Ho spostato la sedia Diamond davanti alla libreria per avere un posto comodo per lettura ma ora c'è una sedia in meno in soggiorno. Mi sa che dovrò cominciare a sistemare la vecchia sedia Domus dondolante per poterla usare senza dover temere che si rompa in pezzi. Oppure mi metto a cercare qualche bella poltrona vintage... ;)  Devo anche laccare gli sportelli centrali della libreria di Lundia in bianco appena la cantina si riscalda un po' di riesco a starci a lavorare.

(EN) By popular request, I'm showing more corners that have seldom been in the blog pictures. Here is the librery room that is also used as a music room as well as a study and that is, thanks to the books, the most colourful room of the house after the children's rooms. I moved the Diamond chair here in order to have a nice reading place but now there's one comfortable seat less in the living room. I guess I'll have to start repairing the old Domus chair so that you can sit on it without the fear that it will fall apart. Or I could also start searching some beautiful vintage armchair... ;) I will also lack the central doors of the Lundia shelf white, as soon as the cellar room gets warm enough and I can work there.

Uudistunut kirppistaulu

(FI) Kirjoitin viime kesänä kirpputorilta löytämästäni taulusta, jonka kehysratkaisua jäin silloin miettimään. Päädyimme lopulta vaihtamaan ainostaan kehyskartongin valkoiseen ja oikean kokoiseen ja säilyttämään alkuperäisen koristeellisen kehyksen. Jos tuo kullanväri alkaa kyllästyttää, aina on mahdollista tarttua kalkkimaalipurkkiin ja sutia kehys mustaksi. Toisaalta ruokasaliin on tulossa jossain vaiheessa messinkinen vintagekattokruunu, joten sikäli tuo kehyksen väri puolustaa paikkaansa. Nykyinen Susan Elon Fly-valaisin on kyllä kaunis, mutta sen valaistusteho ei valitettavasti oikein riitä pohjoisen puolella olevan isohkon huoneen valaisemiseen.

(IT) La scorsa estate ho scritto del quadro che ho trovato al mercatino delle pulci e che pensavo forse di far ricorniciare. Alla fine abbiamo fatto cambiare solo il passepartout a uno bianco e tagliato alle dimensioni giuste ma abbiamo tenuto la cornice originale. Se mi stanco della cornice dorata posso ancora verniciarla nera con vernice gessosa. D'altra parte dovremmo istallare nella sala da pranzo un lampadario vintage in ottone quindi il colore dovrebbe anche starci bene. Mi piace molto la lampada Fly di Susan Elo che abbiamo ora ma purtroppo non basta per illuminare bene la stanza che ha le finestre rivolte al nord.

(EN) Last summer I wrote about a lithograpy that I found on the flea market. I wasn't quite sure what I wanted to do with the frame but at the end we decided to change only the passepartout to a white one with the right dimensions and keep the original frame. If I get tired of the golden frame I can still paint it black with chalk paint. On the other hand we're going to have a vintage brass chandelier in the dining room so the colour might be a perfect match. I really like the Fly lamp by Susan Elo that we have now but it's just not sufficient for illuminating a big room with windows facing the north.
