Shuj - a private style

(FI) Olen tainnut täällä blogissakin jo joskus mainita, että italialainen eleganssi on mielestäni ihan omaa luokkaansa, kun puhutaan makuuhuoneen sisustamisesta. Olenkin aivan otettu siitä, että olen päässyt työkuvioissa tekemään yhteistyötä nuoren mutta kunnianhimoisen italialaisyrityksen, Shuj:n, kanssa. Shuj suunnittelee ylellisiä ja mahdollisimman mukavia tuotteita niihin hetkiin, jolloin kiire jää kotioven ulkopuolelle ja voi keskittyä rentoutumaan ja keräämään voimia seuraavia haasteita varten.

Shuj:n tarina lähti siitä, kun kiinalaisen kulttuurin ja kielen tuntija Marta Marin löysi vuonna 2010 Kiinassa ainutlaatuisen käsityön taidonnäytteen: silkkitoukan koteluista käsin pelkkkää vettä apuna käyttäen tehdyn peitteen, jonka täytteenä on satoja ohuen ohuita kerroksia silkkiä. Syntyi ajatus elvyttää ikivanha, lähes unohtunut traditio ja yhdistää se parhaaseen italialaiseen osaamiseen.

Nykyään Shuj:n tuotevalikoima sisältää kolme eri kokoelmaa. Silk Embrace -nimen alle kuuluvat unelmakevyet, lämpimät ja hengittävät silkkipeitteet, -tyynynpäälliset ja-patjansuojukset. Bedcare-mallistossa puuvilla yhdistyy silkkiin, pellavaan ja bambuun ja tuotteet värjätään valmiiksi ommeltuina upeisiin värisävyiin. Lakanoiden lisäksi tähän mallistoon kuuluu myös torkkupeitteitä, joiden materiaalina on puhdas silkki tai kašmir. Loungewear-kokoelman supermukavat ja ylelliset kotivaatteet on valmistettu silkin ja kasmirin seoksesta.

On todella hienoa, että Shuj:n arvoihin kuuluu tärkeänä osana se, että tuotteet valmistetaan mahdollisimman ekologisesti ja koko tuotantoprosessia valvotaan huolella. Tuotteet ovatkin Öko-Tex-standardi 100 -sertifioituja. Kun investoi tällaiseen tuotteeseen, tietää saavansa pitkäaikaisen ilon itselleen ja myös hyvän omantunnon siitä, ettei nautinto tule luonnon tai tuotteen valmistajien kustannuksella.

Saksan markkinoille Shuj rantautui hiljattain. Suomessa Shuj:n tuotteita ei ole vielä myynnissä, toisin kuin Ruotsissa, jossa jälleenmyyjiä on jo useita. (Taas ne ruotsalaiset ovat meitä edellä!) (IT) Ho sicuramente menzionato qualche volta anche qui sul blog che trovo l'eleganza italiana insuperabile quando si tratta dell'arredo della camera da letto. Sono quindi molto felice di poter collaborare con Shuj, un marchio italiano giovane e ambizioso. Shuj crea prodotti più raffinati e piacevoli possibile per i momenti in cui gli impegni restano fuori della porta di casa ed è ora di rilassarsi e di recuperare le forze per le future sfide.

La storia di Shuj è iniziata nel 2010 quando Marta Marin, sinologa e conoscitrice della cultura cinese ha trovato in Cina un prodotto unico e raro: un piumino imbottito di centinaia di strati di seta, fatto a mano dai bozzoli di seta utilizzando solo acqua nel processo. Da lì è nata l'idea di recuperare l'antica tradizione quasi dimenticata e unirla con il miglior saper fare tessile italiano.

Oggi il mondo Shuj si divide in tre collezioni. Silk Embrace consiste in piumini leggerissimi, sorprendentemente caldi ma traspiranti, copricuscini e coprimaterassi in seta. Nella collezione Bedcare il cotone si unisce alla seta, lino e bambù, e i copripiumini, lenzuola e federe sono tinti in bellissime e sofisticate sfumature. La collezione è completata dalle coperte in puro cashmere e pura seta. La linea Loungewear offre capi comodissimi e raffinati per la casa, adatti anche per tutta la giornata, in una finissima miscela di seta e cashmere.

Apprezzo molto il fatto che per il marchio Shuj è molto importante produrre in modo più ecologico possibile e controllare ogni fase della produzione. I prodotti hanno in effetti il certificato Oeko-Tex Standard 100. Quando si acquista un prodotto di Shuj si può essere sicuri che porterà gioia per vari anni e che il piacere non è ottenuto a spese della natura oppure di quelli che hanno realizzato il prodotto.

I prodotti Shuj sono stati introdotti di recente sul mercato tedesco. In Finlandia non sono ancora in vendita, in Svezia invece ci sono già vari rivenditori. (Gli svedesi sono sempre più avanti a noi!) A Milano Shuj si trova nello stesso showroom con Woodnotes e online i prodotti si trovano da Luisaviaroma.com. (EN) I have no doubt already mentioned here on the blog that I find the Italian elegance unequalled when it comes to bedroom decoration. I am therefore really pleased to have the possibility to collaborate with a young and ambitious Italian brand, Shuj. Shuj creates the most sophisticated and comfortable possible products for the moments when everyday rush remains outside and it's time to relax at home and recharge the batteries for the next challanges.

The story of Shuj started in 2010 when Marta Marin, a sinologist and Chinese culture specialist, found in China a unique and rare product: a duvet filled with hundreds of layers of silk, hand-made from silk cocoons using only water in the process. From this discovery arose the idea of recovering the almost forgotten ancient tradition and combining it with the best Italian textile manufacturer's know-how.

Today the world of Shuj is divided into three parts. The Silk Embrace collection consists in incredibly light but surprisingly warm and breathing silk duvets, pillow covers and mattress tops. For the Bedcare collection cotton is blended with silk, linen and bamboo, and the duvet covers, sheets and pillowcases are dyed into beautiful and sophisticated shades. Soft and luxurious throws in cashmere and silk complete this collection. The Loungewear line offers comfortable and elegant pieces of clothing for home, perfect also for every moment of the day, in a refined silk and cashmere mix.

I really appreciate the fact that for Shuj it's important to be as ecological as possible and to control every production step. Their products have in fact the Oeko-Tex Standard 100 label. When you buy a Shuj product, you know that it will bring joy for years to come and that the pleasure is not obtained by harming the environment or exploiting workers.

Shuj products have recently been introduced to the German market. There are at the moment no retailers in Finland, in Sweden instead there are several already. (The Swedes are always ahead of us!) Arricreati Concept Store

(FI) Vietimme Sisilian reissulla pari kokonaista päivää Syrakusassa ja Ortigian eli vanhankaupungin katuja kierrellessä löysin todella kivan sisustusliikkeen. Veronica Zambellin ja Mariaconcetta Confalonen Arricreati Concept Store on paitsi kauppa myös suunnittelutoimisto. Uusien tuotteiden myymisen lisäksi liikeideaan kuuluu vanhojen kalusteiden muokkaaminen uuteen käyttöön. Esimerkkinä on alla olevan kuvan mustaksi maalattu vanha pöytä, johon on lisätty uusi metallinen pöytälevy. Viihtyisän liikkeen tuotevalikoima oli kiinnostava yhdistelmä uutta designia ja perinteistä sisilialaista muotokieltä. Itse ihastuin erityisesti kauniisiin keraamisiin jakkaroihin, joiden valmistaja on Made a mano. Puoliso taas bongasi heti Seletti for Dieselin ruokailuvälineet, joiden toisessa päässä on jakoavain. Siinäpä vasta täydellinen isänpäivälahja innokkaille tee se itse -miehille :) Suosittelen ehdottomasti poikkeamaan Arricreatissa, jos joskus suuntaatte Syrakusaan!

(IT) In Sicilia abbiamo passato un paio di giorni a Siracusa e mentre giravamo le strade della vecchia città, Ortigia, ho scoperto un negozio di arredamento davvero carino. Arricreati Concept Store di Veronica Zambelli e Mariaconcetta Confalone non è solo un negozio ma anche uno studio di progettazione. Oltre a vendere nuovi prodotti le proprietarie vogliono ricreare e dare una nuova vita a vecchi mobili. Un esempio si vede nella foto di sotto. Un vecchio tavolino è stato dipinto nero ed è diventato più moderni grazie all'aggiunta di un nuovo piano in metallo. L'assortimento del negozio consiste nel design contemporaneo e negli oggetti più tradizionali, magari rivisitati in chiave moderna. A me sono piaciuti particolarmente gli sgabelli decorati in ceramica, fatti da Made a mano. Mio marito invece ha subito trovato le posate di Seletti per Diesel che sono anche chiavi inglesi. Un ottimo regalo per la festa del papà per i mariti che amano il fai da te. :) Consiglio vivamente di visitare questo negozio se vi capita di andare a Siracusa!

(EN) In Sicily we spent a couple of days in Syracuse and walking around the old town, Ortigia, I found a really lovely interior store. Veronica Zambelli's and Mariaconcetta Confalone's Arricreati Concept Store is not only a shop but also a design studio. Apart from selling new products the owners want to recreate old furniture and give them a new life. You can see one example in the next photo. An old table has a new modern look, thanks to some black paint and a new metal top. The cozy store offers a nice selection of new design combined to more traditional Sicilian forms. I really loved the beautifully decorated ceramic stools made by Made a mano. My husband instead spotted quickly the Seletti for Diesel cutlery that can be used also as a wrench. A perfect Father's Day present for all the DIY men. :) I really recommend a visit at Arricreati if you happen to go to Syracuse!

Elämää Venetsiassa

(FI) Vaikka käyttäydyinkin Venetsiassa kuin kunnon turisti ja kiersin kolmessa vuorokaudessa kuusi museota tai näyttelyä ja käväisin myös San Marcolla, minusta oli hauskaa seurata paikallisten ihmisten elämää ja leikitellä ajatuksella, millaista kaupungissa olisi asua. Voi olla, että oman kodin sisustuskin muuttuisi jonkin verran, jos ei tarvitsisi ajatella valon maksimoimista ja jos ympärillä olisi ihan erilaisia värejä ja muotoja kuin nykyään. Katsokaa nyt vaikka Palazzo Nani Mocenigon yleisövessassa ottamiani kuvia (9. ja 10. kuva). Noissa puitteissa skandinaavinen selkeys saattaisi tuntua kovin mitättömältä ja pliisulta. Vai alkaisiko sitä juuri kaivata kaiken koristeellisuuden vastapainoksi? Toisaalta ihminen tulee helposti myös sokeaksi kauniillekin ympäristölle eikä sitä huomioi  ja osaa välttämättä arvostaa ennen kuin taas vaihtaa maisemaa. Maasta toiseen muuttavaa kohtaavasta kulttuurisokista puhutaan paljon, mutta minulle ovat tuttuja myös esteettiset sokit. Oletteko te koskaan kohdanneet sellaista?

(IT) Anche se mi sono comportata a Venezia da una vera e propria turista e ho visto in tre giorni sei tra musei e mostre e sono pure andata in Piazza San Marco, mi sono divertita a osservare la gente locale e immaginare come sarebbe vivere nella città. Può essere che anche il mio stile di arredamento sarebbe un po' diverso se non ci fosse bisogno di pensare a come massimizzare la quantità di luce e se l'ambiente intorno fosse completamente diverso da quello attuale. Guardate per esempio le foto che ho fatto nel bagno del Palazzo Nani Mocenigo (foto numero 9 e 10). Circondato da questo tipo di stile l'arredamento semplice e minimalistico scandinavo potrebbe cominciare a sembrare molto monotono e poco interessante. O forse uno lo apprezzerebbe ancora di più perché contrasta con tutti gli elementi decorativi? D'altro canto si diventa facilmente anche ciechi nei riguardi dell'ambiente anche bello in cui si vive e non lo si nota più o non lo si sa apprezzare finché non ci si sposta di nuovo da qualche altra parte. Si parla molto dello shock culturale quando uno cambia paese ma io ho sperimentato anche vari shock estetici. Sapete di cosa parlo? Vi è mai capitato?

(EN) Even though I behaved in Venice like a typical tourist and visited in three days six museums or exhibitions and went also to Piazza San Marco, I enjoyed observing the locals and amused myself thinking of what it would be like to live in the city. Maybe even my home interior would look a bit different if I didn't have to think about how to maximize the amount of light and if the surroundings were completely different than now. You'll get my point if you look at the pictures I took in the ladies room of Palazzo Nani Mocenigo (pictures 9 and 10). Simple Scandinavian style could start to feel quite boring and bland in this setting. Or would you just start to appreciate it even more because it contrasts with all the ornaments around? On the other hand you can easily get so used to even the most beautiful surroundings that you don't notice them anymore until you move someplace else. People speak a lot about the cultural shock you experience when you move abroad or back home but I have also experienced various esthetic shocks. Do you know what I'm talking about?

(FI) Venetsiassa on meneillään Giorgio Cinin säätiön ja Pentagram Stiftungin järjestämä ja Kaisa Koiviston ja Pekka Korvenmaan kuratoima näyttely, jossa on esillä suomalaista lasia Christina ja Bruno Bischofbergerin kokoelmista. Näyttelyä ehtii katsomaan vielä 2.8. asti. Ensi kuussa näyttelyyn liittyen järjestetään myös yhden päivän mittainen Il vetro finlandese -seminaari, ja arvatkaa kuka on menossa sitä kuuntelemaan! Edellinen Venetsian reissu ajoittuukin aikaan ennen lasten syntymää... Kuka lähtee mukaan?

(IT) A Venezia è ora in corso una mostra sul vetro finlandese nella collezione Christina e Bruno Bischofberger, organizzato da Fondazione Giorgio Cini e Pentagram Stiftung, a cura di Kaisa Koivisto e Pekka Korvenmaa. C'è ancora tempo fino al 2.8. per andare a vederla. Il prossimo mese avrà luogo anche un convegno sul vetro finlandese e indovinate chi sta andando! L'ultima volta che sono stata a Venezia era prima che nascessero le figlie... Chi viene con me?

(EN) In Venice there's at the moment an exhibition on Finnish glass in Christina and Bruno Bischofberger's collection, organized by Giorgio Cini Foundation and Pentagram Stiftung and curated by Kaisa Koivisto and Pekka Korvenmaa. There's time until 2nd August to see the exhibition. Next month takes place also a seminar on Finnish Glass and guess who's going! The last time I have been to Venice was before the children were born... Who wants to come with me?

Päivä Sienassa

(FI) Sienassa vietimme varmasti eniten aikaa tuomiokirkossa eli Santa Maria Assuntan katedraalissa, joka on sinisine tähtikattoineen ja marmoripintoineen eräs kauneimmista tietämistäni kirkoista. Lounasaikaan löysimme Piazza del Campon läheltä kivan ja kohtuuhintaisen ruokapaikan nimeltä Bargello, jota voin lämpimästi suositella, ja iltapäivällä kävimme tietenkin herkuttelemassa legendaarisessa Pasticceria Nanninissa. Loppuaika menikin kaupunkia kierrellessä ja katsellessa ja lähdimme takaisin kohti majapaikkaa vasta, kun kaikkien jalat olivat niin väsyneet, että pieni lepo oli paikallaan. Tässä oli nyt sitten tämän reissun postaukset, mutta pari päivän päästä pakkaan laukut uudestaan ja lennän jälleen Italiaan ihmettelemään Milanon huonekalumessuja. Jos jollakulla on jo kokemusta kyseisistä messuista ja hyviä vinkkejä ensikertalaiselle, niin olen pelkkänä korvana!

(IT) A Siena siamo rimasti più a lungo nel duomo, cioè nel cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta che con i suoi soffitti blu stellati e superfici di marmo è una delle chiese più belle che abbia mai visto. All'ora di pranzo abbiamo trovato un posto ottimo con prezzi ragionevoli, l'osteria Bargello, che posso veramente consigliare, e nel pomeriggio siamo andati ad assaggiare i leggendari dolci della pasticceria Nannini. Per il resto abbiamo girato la città finché i piedi non facevano tanto male che abbiamo deciso di tornare al Grande Prato. Non scriverò altro su questo viaggio ma tra un paio di giorni rifaccio le valige e vado a visitare il Salone del Mobile a Milano. Se ci siete già stati e avete consigli da darmi, sono tutt'orecchi!

(EN) In Siena we spent most time in the cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta. Thanks to the blue vaulted ceilings with golden stars and all the marble surfaces it's one of the most beautiful churches I know. During lunch time we found a really nice place with reasonable prices called Osteria Bargello that I can recommend and in the afternoon we had a delicious snack in the legendary Pasticceria Nannini. For the rest of the day we just walked around in the center until our feet were really hurting and we decided to head back to Grande Prato. This is all I'm going to write about this trip but in a couple of days I will pack my suitcase again and head for the Furniture Fair in Milan. If you have already been there and have any good advice for a novice I'm all ears!

Toscanan keväässä

(FI) Olipa ihana reissu Toscanaan, vain ihan liian lyhyt! Majoituimme ystäviemme ensimmäisissä kuvissa näkyvään agriturismoon eli maalaishotelliin nimeltä il Grande prato, mistä teimme kokopäivän reissut Pisaan ja Sienaan ja loppuajan pyörimme lähiseudulla. Vuokrasimme auton jo heti lentokentältä, jotta saatoimme liikkua vapaasti, ja aikaa säästyi huomattavasti junamatkoihin verrattuna. Toiseksi viimeisenä lomapäivänä satoi melkein koko ajan, mutta olimme ottaneet sen sääennusteiden ansiosta huomioon ja isommat reissut oli siinä vaiheessa tehty. Muuten kevät oli Toscanassa jo pitkällä ja auringossa tarkeni melko kevyillä vaatteilla, kuten Pisan tornista ottamassani kuvassa vilahtavista turisteista huomaa. Pisa on meille hyvinkin tuttu paikka, sillä mieheni on suorittanut siellä opintonsa kokonaan ja minä taas olen asunut kaupungissa ensin vuoden Erasmus-vaihdon vuoksi ja myöhemmin vielä puolen vuoden pätkän, jolloin tapasin tulevan mieheni. Tytärten kanssa emme jostain syystä olleet kaupungissa vielä käyneet, joten nyt teimme nostalgiareissun ja esittelimme kaupunkia heillekin. Kuvia ei tullut Pisassa otettua kovinkaan paljon, sillä järkkäri unohtui majapaikkaan, mutta Sienassa kuvia kertyi sen verran, että teen niistä oman postauksensa.

(IT) Abbiamo fatto un viaggio bellissimo in Toscana, è solo durato troppo poco. Abbiamo soggiornato nell'agriturismo dei nostri amici, il Grande prato e fatto due gite a Pisa e Siena e il resto del tempo girato solo nei posti vicini. Il penultimo giorno della vacanza è piovuto praticamente tutto il tempo ma lo sapevamo dalle previsioni e le gite erano già fatte. Per il resto la primavera era già avanzata in Toscana e al sole si stava bene anche vestiti piuttosto leggeri come potete notare dai turisti che si vedono nelle foto fatte a Pisa. Pisa la conosciamo piuttosto bene perché mio marito ha studiato lì e io ci ho passato prima un anno come studentessa Erasmus e più avanti ancora sei mesi nei quali ho conosciuto il mio futuro marito. Per qualche motivo non avevamo ancora visitato la città con le figlie quindi ora abbiamo fatto un viaggio nostalgico e mostrato la città anche a loro. Non ho fatto tante foto a Pisa perché abbiamo dimenticato la macchina fotografica reflex al Grande prato ma le foto di Siena sono tante e le dedico un altro post intero.

(EN) We had a great holiday in Tuscany, only too short. We stayed in our friends' country hotel or agriturismo called il Grande prato that you can see in the first pictures and did two whole day trips to Pisa and Siena. The rest of the time we stayed in the nearby area. We had rented a car already at the airport so we could go easily where wanted and saved lots of time compared to travelling by train. The second last day of our holiday it was raining almost the whole day but we had seen it in the weather forecasts and the longer day trips were already done at that point. For the rest we had really beautiful spring days and in the sun it was quite warm as you can see from the tourists' clothing in the pictures taken in Pisa. We know Pisa really well because my husband has studied there and I have lived there first for one year as an Erasmus exchange student and the later for six months and in that period I got to know my future husband. For some reason we hadn't visited the town with our girls, though, so now we did a nostalgic trip and showed them around. I didn't take too many pictures in Pisa because we forgot the SLR camera at Grande prato but in Siena I took so many I will show them in another post.
