Joulufiilistä

(FI) Hyvää ensimmäisen adventtisunnuntain iltaa! Joko teillä on joulufiilis huipussaan vain onko se vielä haussa? Nyt olisi tarjolla pari oivaa keinoa, joilla oikea vire taatusti alkaa löytyä.

Ensimmäinen vinkki on tietysti piparien leipominen. Kun vielä vääntää joulumusiikin päälle antamaan taustalla tahtia, viimeistään juuri paistetun piparin tuoksun levitessä keittiöön alkavat joulun parhaat puolet muistua mieleen.

Toinen vinkki on Riikka Kantinkosken ja Virpi Mikkosen mielettömän upea Joulukirja. Reseptejä emme ole vielä ehtineet kokeilla, mutta kauniit talviset tunnelmakuvat saavat ulkona rapisevat vesipisarat unohtumaan tehokkaasti.

Kohta onkin jo aika avata joulukalenterin ensimmäinen luukku. Meillä tytöt ovat hankkineet pieniä yllätyksiä toisilleen, joten äiti pääsee siinä hommassa vähällä. Mukavaa joulutunnelmointia!

(IT) Buona serata della prima domenica d'Avvento! Siete già entusiasti del natale in arrivo o state ancora cercando lo spirito giusto? Ecco un paio di consigli che funzionano di sicuro.

Il primo consiglio è di fare pan di zenzero. Se metti ancora musica natalizia in sottofondo, al massimo nel momento che il profumo di biscotti appena sfornati si diffonde in cucina comincerai a ricordare i lati più belli del periodo natalizio.

Il secondo consiglio è di procurarsi il bellissimo libro Joulukirja di Riikka Kantinkoski e Virpi Mikkonen. Non abbiamo ancora provato le ricette ma le fantastiche foto invernali fanno dimenticare la pioggia che cade giù fuori dalla finestra.

Presto sarà già ora di aprire il primo sportello del calendario dell'avvento. Le mie figlie si sono comprate delle piccole sorprese per la sorella quindi io non ho dovuto pensarci più di tanto. Godetevi il periodo natalizio!

(EN) Happy first Sunday of Advent evening! Are you already excited about Christmas or are you still looking for the right mood? I have a couple of tips that will help you:

The first tip is to bake gingerbread. If you also play Christmas music on the background, when the smell of freshly baked gingerbread spreads in the kitchen you can't help remembering why the X-mas time is so special.

The second tip is the wonderful book Joulukirja by Riikka Kantinkoski and Virpi Mikkonen. We still haven't tried any of the recipes but the lovely winter pictures make you forget the rain pouring outside.

Soon it will be time to open the first door of the Christmas calendar. Our girls have bought each other little presents so one thing less for me to do this year. Enjoy the X-mas time!

Cozy Homes from Finland & Green Home Book

(FI) Meidän olohuoneen sohvapöytää koristaa tällä hetkellä kaksi uskomattoman kaunista uutuuskirjaa.  Piia Kalliomäen ja Pauliina Salosen Cozy Homes from Finland esittelee 20 tyyliltään erilaista suomalaiskotia, joita yhdistää kutsuva kodikkuus. Selkeän ja harmonisen taiton kirjaan loihti Piian mies, AD Jari Kalliomäki. Mainio kirja, joka on kokonsa puolesta kätevä lähettää lahjaksi ulkomailla asuville ystäville.

Green Home Book -viherkasvikirjan takana ovat Susanna Vento ja Riikka Kantinkoski. Assistenttina toimi Pinja Forsman ja tyylikäs taitto on Agency Leroyn taitavan Päivi Häikiön käsialaa. Kirja antaa ohjeita kodin viherkasvien hoitoon ja lisäämiseen, mutta toimii myös inspiroivana sisustuskirjana, sillä kasveja on kuvattu erilaisissa upeissa kotiympäristöissä. Minulla on ollut kiva, pieni rooli näissä molemmissa kirjaprojekteissa, sillä olen kääntänyt kirjojen tekstit englanniksi. Kirjat on kustantanut Cozy Publishing.

(IT) Sul tavolino del nostro soggiorno ci sono nel momento due bellissimi libri novità.  Cozy Homes from Finland della giornalista di arredamento e interior designer Piia Kalliomäki e fotografa Pauliina Salonen mostra 20 case finlandesi con stili di arredamento diversi ma sempre con l'atmosfera accogliente. Il layout arioso ed armonioso è stato creato dal marito di Piia, art director Jari Kalliomäki. Grazie alle dimensioni contenute, il libro è un ottimo regalo da spedire per posta per amici in giro per il mondo.

Green Home Book invece è un libro sulle piante di casa, opera della interior stylist Susanna Vento e della fotografa Riikka Kantinkoski. Pinja Forsman ha lavorato come assistente e l'elegante layout è stato fatto dalla bravissima Päivi Häikiö dall'Agency Leroy. Il libro dà consigli tra l'altro sulla cura e propagazione delle piante di casa ma è anche un bel libro di arredamento, visto che le piante sono state fotografate in case stupende. Io ho avuto un piccolo ruolo in tutt'e due i progetti perché ho tradotto i testi in inglese per la casa editrice Cozy Publishing. 

Qualcuno di voi ha già avuto la possibilità di dare un'occhiata a questi gioielli?

 (EN) At the moment there are two incredibly beautiful new books on our coffee table. Cozy Homes from Finland by interior journalist Piia Kalliomäki and photographer Pauliina Salonen shows 20 Finnish homes with different decoration styles but all with a cozy feel. The clear and harmonious layout was made by Piias husband, art director Jari Kalliomäki. Thanks to the compact size, the book is a perfect gift to send abroad.  

Green Home Book is a houseplant book by stylist Susanna Vento and photographer Riikka Kantinkoski with Pinja Forsman as assistent and layout by talented Päivi Häikiö from Agency Leroy. The book gives care and propagation instructions for houseplants, but it's also an interior decoration book since the plants have been photographed in stunning homes. I played a small role both the projects as I translated the texts into English. The publisher of both the books is Cozy Publishing.

7.12. Parhaat paketit

(FI) Kirjalahja on aina paras lahja, jos minulta kysytään, ja tässä ovat tämän joulun omat suosikkini. Laura Lindstedtin Finlandia-voittajaromaani Oneiron ja Piia Kalliomäen kaunis Aina oikein -kirja ilahduttavat saajaa varmasti ja takaavat monta mukavaa lukuhetkeä. Minä sain omat lahjani jo vähän etukäteen, kun ihana ystävä toi ne minulle Suomesta. Aina oikein -kirjaa on tullut selailtua jo useammankin kerran, mutta tuon romaanin aion säästää nautittavaksi joulunpyhinä glögin ja joulumusiikin kera.

(IT) Un libro è sempre il regalo migliore, almeno secondo me, ed ecco i miei preferiti per questo natale. Il romanzo Oneiron di Laura Lindstedt che vinto il premio Finlandia per la letteratura e il bellissimo libro di arredamento Aina oikein di Piia Kalliomäki piacciono di sicuro e chi li riceve potrà passare tanti bei momenti leggendoli. I miei regali sono arrivati con un po' in anticipo perché un'amica me li ha gentilmente portati dalla Finlandia. Aina oikein l'ho già sfigliato varie volte ma il romanzo lo leggerò solo a natale, sorseggiando un po' di vin brulé con musica natalizia di sottofondo.

P.S. Mi potete certo spedire anche altri libri, non mi dispiacerà affatto! :)

(EN) A book is always the best present, at least in my opinion, and here are my favourites for this year. Laura Lindstedt's Oneiron just won the Finlandia literary prize and interior book Aina Oikein by Piia Kalliomäki is really beautiful so both the books will make anybody happy. I received my gift a bit early because a dear friend brought me the books from Finland. I have already browsed through Aina oikein several times but I'm going to save the novel fof Christmas. I will read it drinking some mulled wine with Christmas music playing on the background.

P.S. Please don't hesitate to send me also other books, I certainly won't mind! ;)

Uutuuskirja Aina oikein

(FI) Voitteko kuvitella, että minä antiaamuihminen menin yläasteella kerran viikossa vapaaehtoisesti kahdeksaksi kouluun. Syynä oli käsityökerho, jossa meitä oli koolla mukava tyttöporukka. Koulupäivä käynnistyi ajankohdasta huolimatta harvinaisen miellyttävästi, kun neuloi kaikessa rauhassa villapaitaa ja rupatteli kavereitten kanssa. Sittemmin neulomisharrastukseni hiipui pitkäksi aikaa, mutta viime talvena tempaisin ja neuloin kuopukselle pipon ja tuubihuivin. Nyt työn alla on jo vähän isompi haaste eli torkkupeitto, ja tyynynpäällisen neulominenkin houkuttaa, kunhan ensimmäinen urakka valmistuu. Neulomisharrastuksen uudelleen löytäneenä olin ymmärrettävästi aika innoissani, kun kuulin, että pitämättömän tyylitajun omaava sisustustoimittaja, neulesuunnittelija ja bloggaaja Piia Kalliomäki teki Cozy Publishingille uutta neuleohje- ja sisustuskirjaa. Nyt kirja on jo julkaisukunnossa ja vaikka huominen julkistamistilaisuus menee välimatkan vuoksi ohi, pääsin jo hieman kurkistamaan kirjan sivuille. Odotukseni täyttyivät kaikin puolin, sillä kirja on täynnä toinen toistaan ihanampia neulemalleja ja upean tunnelmallisia ja taidokkaasti stailattuja sisustuskuvia. Ohjeet ovat niin yksinkertaisia, ettei niiden toteuttaminen vaadi ihmeellisiä taitoja, ja kirja visuaalisesti niin kaunis, että sitä selaa mielellään, vaikkei neulominen tai virkkaaminen kiinnostaisikaan. Jos kauniit tekstiilit kuitenkin houkuttavat, Aina oikein - sisusta ja neulo -kirjan voi antaa joululahjaksi neulovalle mummille tai tutulle, jolta voi odottaa seuraavana vuonna lämpimiä sisustukseen sopivia paketteja. ;) Onnittelut Piialle upeasta esikoiskirjasta!

(IT) Incredibile ma vero, quando ero a scuola media io che non sono per nulla una persona mattutina andavo una volta alla settimana volontariamente a scuola per le otto. Il motivo era il circolo organizzato dall'insegnante dei lavori manuali dove partecipava un bel gruppo di ragazze. Nonostante l'orario era molto bello iniziare la giornata lavorando a maglia e chiacchierando con le amiche. Poi con gli anni ho dimenticato questo hobby per parecchio tempo ma l'inverno scorso ho fatto un berretto e una sciarpa a tubo per mia figlia. Quest'anno ho già un progetto più grande in corso perché sto facendo una coperta e dopo vorrei fare anche un copricuscino. Potete capire che ero molto entusiasta quando ho sentito che la giornalista di arredamento, designer e blogger Piia Kalliomäki stava facendo per la casa editrice Cozy Publishing un libro di arredamento con modelli di lavoro a maglia per la casa. Ora il libro è pronto e, anche se non riesco a partecipare domani alla festa per la pubblicazione, ho avuto la possibilità di dare già un occhiata al libro. Proprio come mi aspettavo, le pagine sono piene di modelli ispiranti e bellissime foto d'interni. I modelli sono abbastanza semplici anche per principianti e tutto il libro è visualmente così bello che è un piacere sfogliarlo anche se i lavori manuali non interessano affatto. Ecco un regalo di natale perfetto per una nonna che lavora a maglia e che potrà in cambio regalare tanti bei pacchi morbidi l'anno successivo. ;) Complimenti a Piia per il bellissimo libro!

(EN) I know it's hard to believe but in secondary school I, who have never been a morning person, used to go to school once a week an hour earlier than I was supposed to. The reason was the handicraft club attended by a nice group of girls. In spite of the early hour it was a really nice start for the day to sit there knitting and chatting with the others. After that I basically forgot the knitting hobby for years until last winter when I made a beanie and a tube scarf for my daughter. This year I have started a bigger project and I'm knitting a throw blanket. After that I'm thinking of starting with a cushion cover. So you can imagine how happy I was when I heard that interior journalist, designer and blogger Piia Kalliomäki was writing an interior book with knitting patterns for the home for Cozy Publishing. Now the book is ready and even though I'm missing tomorrow's publishing party I had a chance to have a look at the book. Just as I expected, the pages are full of really inspiring models and harmonious interior photos. The patterns are easy enough even for beginners and the book is visually so beautiful that it's a pleasure to leaf it through even if you're not interested in knitting or crocheting. This book would be a perfect Christmas preset for a knitting granny who can in return give nice knitted gifts next year. ;) Congratulations on your beautiful book, Piia!

Kotinurkissa

(FI) Terveisiä lomalta! Aika meni nopsasti ja ohjelmaa oli niin runsaasti, etten ehtinyt blogin ääreen laisinkaan, mutta ainakin tuli nähtyä paljon ystäviä ja tehtyä vaikka mitä muutaman viikon aikana. Muutamaan paikkaan palaan vielä blogissakin, mutta pikakelauksen lomastamme näkee Instagramista. Täällä kotona on lomareissunkin ansiosta monta isompaa ja pienempää projektia meneillään, joten blogimateriaalia riittää, ja iltojen pimetessä voi taas syventyä moneen mukavaan kirjaan. Oliivipuu on keltaisten lehtien perusteella sitä mieltä, että syksy on jo alkanut, mutta eiköhän nautita vielä vain lämpimästä loppukesästä!

(IT) Saluti dalle vacanze! Il tempo è volato e avevamo tanti programmi che non ho proprio avuto tempo per il blog. Almeno abbiamo visto tanti amici e fatto un sacco di cose in poche settimane. Ritornerò ad alcuni luoghi visitati anche nel blog ma su Instragram si possono vedere le nostre vacanze in fast forward. Grazie anche alle vacanze, ci sono vari progetti piccoli e grossi da fare qui a casa quindi avrò molto materiale per il blog, e quando le sere diventano buie posso leggere tanti bei libri che abbiamo portato dalla Finlandia. L'ulivo sembra pensare che l'autunno sia già arrivato, visto le foglie gialle, ma io direi di goderci prima il bellissimo fine estate!

(EN) Greetings from Finland! The time flied and we had so much to do that I didn't have any time for the blog but at least we met a great number of friends and did lots of nice things in few weeks. I will return to a couple places on the blog but on Instagram you can fast forward through our holidays. Thanks also to the holiday trip, we have various small and big projects going on in the house so I will have lots of material for blogging, and when the evenings get dark I can get absorbed in one of the books we brought from Finland. Our olive tree seems to think that the autumn is already here,  based on the yellow leaves, but let's enjoy the wonderful late summer first!

Kahvihetki Toven seurassa

(FI) Tänään on kulunut 100 vuotta Tove Janssonin syntymästä, joten nautin lauantain aamukahvit luonnollisesti Muumi-mukista. Itse en omista ainuttakaan mukia, mutta tyttärillä on niitä ihan reilu kokoelma, joten lainasin esikoisen Muumi hurraa -mukia. Mukin kuvahan on peräisin kirjasta Kuka lohduttaisi Nyytiä, joka kuului lapsena lempikirjoihini. Kirjan kuvitus ja teksti vangitsevat taitavasti erilaisia tunnelmia pelottavasta yön hämärästä värikkäseen juhlahumuun, ja luulen, että juuri se vetosi minuun niin suuresti. Meidän lapsetkin ovat muuten tutustuneet Toven Janssonin tuotantoon kirjojen kautta, sillä etenkin esikoisesta Muumi-piirretyt olivat pitkään ihan liian pelottavia. Nyt ne taitavat olla jo ihan liian lapsellisia... Hyvää viikonloppua!

(IT) Oggi si celebrano i 100 anni dalla nascita della grande scrittrice e pittrice finlandese, Tove Jansson, che ha creato i Mumin, amati dai bambini in tutto il mondo. Non potevo quindi non bere il mio caffellatte del sabato da una tazza Mumin di cui le figlie anno hanno una discreta collezione. Ho preso in prestito la tazza Muumi hurraa (Evviva Mumin) della primogenita. L'immagine della tazza viene dal libro Piccolo Knitt, tutto solo che era uno dei miei libri preferiti da bambina. Il testo e le immagini catturano una serie di emozioni dalla paura nel cuore della notte alla gioia durante una festa allegra e penso che il libro mi piaceva proprio per quello. Anche le nostre figlie hanno avuto il primo contatto con l'opera di Tove Jansson leggendo libri perché specialmente la primogenita trovava a lungo i cartoni animati dei Mumin troppo spaventosi. Ora sarebbero probabilmente troppo infantili... Buon fine settimana!

(EN) Today it's Tove Jansson's 100th anniversary and to celebrate the famous Finnish novelist, painter and illustrator I had my Saturday morning coffee from a Moomin mug. I personally don't own any Moomin mugs but my daughters have a small collection so I borrowed my older daughter's Muumi hurraa (Hooray Moomin) mug. The image on the mug comes from Jansson's book Who Will Comfort Toffle? that was one of my favourite books as a child. The texts and images in the book capture a gamut of emotions, from fear and loneliness during the night to joy in a colourful party. I think that's what I loved about this book. Also our daughters have got to know Tove Jansson through her books since especially my older daughter found the Moomin cartoons too scary for a long time. Now she probably finds them really boring... Have a nice weekend!

Kahvilla ja ilman

(FI) Viikko hujahti ohi vauhdilla ja tämäkin päivä on mennyt pitkälti puutarhamyymälässä ja istutushommia aloitellessa. Niinpä ehdin vasta nyt koneen äärelle julkaisemaan aamulla ottamani kahvikuvat. Kuvissa näkyy aamukahvin lisäksi pari uutta sisustuskirjahankintaa. Alempi kirja on itse asiassa parempi näistä kahdesta, mutta Einfach retro -kirjan kansi oli niin pirteä, että sekin pääsi kuvaan. Kyseinen kirja oli pieni pettymys, sillä se ei tarjonnut oikein mitään uutta, ja lisäksi kuvissa pitää minusta näkyä aitoja tuotteita eikä kopioita, jos puhutaan vaikka Alvar Aallon kalusteiden taivutetuista jaloista tai Arne Jacobsenin muurahaistuoleista. Huomenna on tiedossa tiivis päivä puutarhassa ja parvekkeella, kun pitää saada kaikki kukat istutettua ja rikkaruohoja kitkettyä. Taidan jopa jättää kirppiskierroksen väliin näiden hommien takia. (IT) La settimana è passata in fretta e oggi la giornata è andata dal vivaio e piantando le prime cose. Solo ora ho tempo per stare al computer per pubblicare le foto scattate stamattina. Nelle foto ci sono un paio di libri di arredamento nuovi oltre alla tazza di caffellatte. A dire il vero, il libro che sta di sotto è quello che mi piace di più, ma l'altro sta sul tavolino per il bel colore della copertina. Sono rimasta un po' delusa del libro Einfach retro perché in realtà non offre nulla di nuovo e anche perché secondo me le foto devono mostrare design autentico e non copie quando si parla per esempio delle gambe curvate dei mobili di Alvar Aalto oppure delle sedie Ant di Arne Jacobsen. Domani passeremo la giornata in giardino e sul balcone perché dobbiamo finire di piantare tutti i fiori comprati oggi e anche togliere un po' di erbacce dal giardino. Mi sa che salterò per questi lavori anche la visita al mercatino delle pulci. Buona domenica!

(EN) The week went by really fast and today we have spent the day first at the garden center and then in the garden planting the first things. Only now I have time to sit at the computer and post the pictures I took this morning. Besides my Saturday cup of coffee, you can see a couple of new home decoration books on the table. The book that remains under the other one is actually a lot nicer but the other one is on the top for its colourful cover. Einfach retro was a bit of a disappointment because it really didn't offer anything new and if you talk about Alvar Aalto furniture's curved legs or Arne Jacobsen's Ant chairs I really think the pictures should show the originals and not some design copies. Tomorrow we're going to spend the day in the garden and on the balcony since we have to plant all the flowers bought today and also to weed the garden. There's so much work to be done that I probably won't have time to go to the flea market. Have a nice Sunday!

Kardemummakahvia

(FI) Join tämän lauantain aamukahvit käsin tehdystä hiekanvärisestä keramiikkakupista, jossa on ihanan ohut reuna. Luettavana oli eräs lempisisustuskirjoistani, Apartment living, jonka löysin taas jokunen päivä sitten kirjahyllystä. Ensimmäisen siemauksen jälkeen lisäsin kahviin vielä ripauksen kardemummaa, ja kylläpä maistui hyvältä. Kannattaa kokeilla, jollet ole vielä maistanut kardemummakahvia. Illalla menemme saksalaisen ystäväperheen kanssa ulos syömään, sillä meillä sattuu olemaan yhteinen italialainen lempiravintola. Mukavaa viikonloppua!

(IT) Ho bevuto il mio caffè del sabato mattina da una tazza di ceramica color sabbia fatta a mano. Mi piace il fatto che il bordo della tazza è veramente sottile. Ho sfogliato uno dei miei libri di arredamento preferiti, Apartment living, che ho ritrovato nella libreria un paio di giorni fa. Dopo il primo sorso ho aggiunto un po' di cardamomo sul mio caffèllatte. Che buono! È assolutamente da provare se non hai ancora assaggiato caffè con cardamomo. Stasera andremo a cena con amici tedeschi al ristorante italiano che è il preferito di tutt'e due le famiglie. Buon fine settimana!

(EN) I drank my Saturday morning coffee from a lovely sand-coloured handmade cup that has a really thin border. For the reading I had one of my all time favourite home decorating books, Apartment living, that I rediscovered recently. After the first sip I added some ground cardamom on my coffee. Delicious! You should really try it if you haven't tasted cardamom coffee before. This evening we will go out for dinner with our German friends since we have a common favourite italian restaurant in town. Have a nice weekend!

Lukemista ja tekemistä

(FI) Kotona Saksassa ollaan jälleen, ja matkalaukkujen lisäksi pitäisi purkaa kaikki joulukoristeet pois kotia koristamasta, vaikka tuntuu siltä, että vastahan ne nostettiin esille. Joululoman kuvasaldo oli todella niukka, eikä kukaan joulukuvia varmaan enää haluaisikaan katsella, mutta ikuistin sentään Helsingin vuoden 2013 harmaan joulusään, joka ei muuttunut muuksi koko kaksiviikkoisen aikana. Pimeyden vastapainoksi vietimme onneksi monta mukavaa hetkeä ystävien ja sukulaisten seurassa.

Matkalaukkujen täytteenä tuli taas kirja poikineen, jottei lukeminen pääse loppumaan kesken, ja tiedossa on myös monta elokuvailtaa, koska esikoinen sai hartaasti toivomansa Harry Potter -leffaboksin. Siirryimme joululomalla vihdoin tablettitietokoneaikaan, kun vanha kannettava alkoi ennen joulua näyttää pahoja hyytymisen merkkejä, ja täytyy sanoa, että on tuo iPad kyllä kätevä kapistus. Tilasin heti itselleni sähköisen version Italian Elle Decorista, jota täällä Bremenissä ei löydä mistään, ja täytyy tutustua muuhunkin tarjolla olevaan lehtivalikoimaan, jos vaikka lehtipinot pysyisivät jatkossa vähän pienempinä. Hyvien kirppislöytöjen putki jatkuu näköjään myös tänä vuonna, sillä ostin heti vuoden alussa Fidasta eurolla mustan Hayn Lup-kynttilänjalan.

Meillä oli kotimatkalla vaihto Amsterdamissa ja nappasin lentokentän myymälästä mukaani alakuvassa näkyvän lehtipinon katseltavaksi. Keramiikkatyöt ovat lasten savityökurssin tuotoksia, jotka paljastuivat äidin joulupaketeista. Harmaa-vaaleanpunaiseen kulhoon tuli minusta hienot värit, ja ihan kuin tuossa valkoisessa rasiassa olisi vähän Kaj Franck -vaikutteita.

(IT) Siamo tornati a casa in Germania e oltre alle valigie dovremmo svuotare anche la casa dalle decorazioni di natale anche se mi sembra di averle messe appena ieri. Ho fatto veramente poche foto durante le vacanze e tutti saranno già anche stanchi di vedere foto di natale ma ho immortalato almeno il tempo che faceva nel natale 2013 a Helsinki e il tempo non è cambiato mai durante le due settimane di vacanza. Per fortuna abbiamo passato anche tanti momenti belli con amici e parenti nonostante il grigiore. 

Abbiamo messo nelle valigie tanti libri da leggere e nelle prossime settimane passeremo anche serate guardando i film di Harry Potter, visto che la primogenita ha ricevuto il box completo per natale. Durante le vacanze siamo diventati anche utenti di un tablet che sostituisce un computer portatile che non vuole più funzionare. Devo dire che è proprio pratico. Ho fatto subito l'abbonamento a Elle Decor Italia, visto che non si trova nelle edicole qui a Brema, e devo guardare anche l'offerta delle altre riviste perché potrebbe essere un modo per tenere sotto controllo le pile di riviste che tendono a crescere troppo. L'anno nuovo si è presentato subito come fortunato al mercatino delle pulci quando ho comprato un portacandele Lup di HAY al prezzo di un euro. 

Siamo tornati a casa via Amsterdam e ho comprato alcune riviste olandesi all'edicola dell'aeroporto. La ceramica è fatta dalle mie figlie al corso di ceramica e l'ho ricevuta come regalo di natale. Il colore grigio della ciotola mi piace molto e il contenitore sembra aver trovato ispirazione dal design essenziale di Kaj Franck.

(EN) We're back home in Germany again and in addition to the luggage we should empty the house from the Christmas decoration even though I feel like I only took it out yesterday. I didn't take almost any pictures during the holidays and I'm sure everyone's tired to see Christmas photos anyway, but at least I can show you what the weather was like in Helsinki during Christmas 2013 and during the rest of the two weeks we stayed there. However, we had a lovely time meeting our friends and family in spite of the gray weather.

We packed in our suitcases lots of books to read and since our older daughter finally got the complete Harry Potter film collection, we will have quite many cinema evenings at home in the near future. We finally entered the tablet era during the holidays, because our old laptop is a bit broken. I find the new iPad extremely handy and subscribed immediately to Elle Decor Italia that you can't find in the Bremen bookstalls. I'll have to check what other magazines are available since that might help keeping the magazine piles under control. January started well also at the flea market where I bought a HAY Lup candle holder for one euro.

We flew to Bremen via Amsterdam and I bought some Dutch home decor magazines at the airport. The pottery is done by my daughters and I received it for Christmas. I really like the colours of the pink and gray bowl and find that the white jar resembles somehow Kaj Franck's simple design.

Terveisiä Helsingistä

Aurinko helli lomalaisia Helsingissä ja vaikka kiirettä riitti jälleen kerran, ehdimme käydä tyttöjen kanssa parissakin kirjakaupassa ja löysin ostoslistalla olleet kirjat. Näitä on mukava lueskella ja katsella kotona kaikessa rauhassa. Yksiökin tuli vihdoin sellaiseen kuntoon, että seuraavalla lomalla ei ole pakollisia projekteja (tai ei ainakaan kovin monia). Saksassa sen sijaan alkaa nyt projekti "eroon viimeisistäkin muuttolaatikoista".

Il sole splendeva tutto il tempo mentre eravamo a Helsinki e, nonostante avessimo avuto anche questa volta molta fretta, sono andata con le bambine in un paio di librerie e ho trovato i libri che cercavo. Sarà un piacere leggerli e rileggerli con calma a casa. Il monolocale è finalmente sistemato bene e durante la prossima vacanza non avremo progetti da fare (almeno non tanti). Invece in Germania comincia ora il progetto "fuori le ultime scatole del trasloco".

The sun was shining all the time during our short holidays in Helsinki. We were in a hurry almost all the time again but still managed to visit a couple of bookshops and I found the books I wanted to buy. It's going to be so nice to read and reread these books and look at all the nice pictures. Our studio apartment is now pretty much ready and the next holidays we won't have projects to finish there (at least not many). On the other hand we have to start in Germany a project called "getting rid of all the moving boxes".

Wir lernen Deutsch!

Ostimme jo kesällä kirpparilta vanhan saksan oppikirjan, joka on julkaistu 60-luvulla. En tiedä, onko siitä loppujen lopuksi opiskelumielessä hyötyä, mutta Lea Koch-Auvon kuvat ovat niin hienot, että jo niiden takia kirjasta kannatti maksaa kokonainen euro. Sivuja voisi melkein kehystää lastenhuoneen seinälle tauluiksi!

Abbiamo comprato già in estate al mercatino delle pulci questo libro di tedesco per bambini pubblicato negli anni '60. Non so se sarà veramente utile per studiare la lingua ma le illustrazioni di Lea Koch-Auvo sono così fantastiche che valeva pena pagare un euro già per quelle. Si potrebbero quasi incornicare le pagine più belle e appenderle alla parete come quadri.

We bought this German book for children in the summer from the flea market. The book has been published in the 60's. I don't know if it's actually so useful for learning the language but the illustrations by Lea Koch-Auvo are so fantastic that it was well worth paying 1 euro. I could almost frame some pages and hang them on the wall.

Raidallista

Kävin tänään esikoisen kanssa taas perinteisellä sunnuntain kirppiskierroksella, ja olikin ihan mahtava reissu. Aurinko paistoi ja myyjiä ja väkeä oli valtavasti paikalla ja kaiken lisäksi tein vielä kivoja löytöjäkin. Löysin kahdeksalla eurolla kirjan, jonka ostosta olin jo haaveillutkin, pari uutta valkoista maljakkoa kokoelmaani ja vielä pari hauskaa keramiikkakippoa. Lapset saivat 50 sentillä pari säilytyspurkkia ja esikoinen löysi etsimänsä eli yhden saksankielisen Harry Potter -kirjan.

Oggi ho fatto il solito salto al mercatino delle pulci con la nostra primogenita ed è stato un giro ben riuscito. Il sole spendeva e c'era tantissima gente. Inoltre ho fatto begli acquisti. Ho comprato a otto euro un libro che già desideravo, due nuovi vasi bianchi e due ciotole di ceramica. Per le bimbe ho trovato due barattoli a prezzo di 50 centesimi e la mia compagnia di avventura ha trovato quello che cercava, cioè un libro di Harry Potter in tedesco.

Today I went again to the flea market with our older daughter and it was really nice. The sun was shining and the market place was full of people. I also found some nice things. I bought fo eight euros a book that I had been thinking about buying, found two new white vases to my collection and two nice ceramic bowls. The girls got two tin cans for 50 cents and my daughter found what she was looking for: a Harry Potter book in German.
