Ruskean sävyjä

(FI) Ompelin viikonloppuna uuden pöytäliinan jonkin aikaa sitten Ikeasta ostamastani luonnonvärisestä pellavakankaasta. Lämpimän murretut sävyt tummanruskeasta vaaleanruskeaan miellyttävät silmää nyt erityisen paljon, joten kaivoin esille myös vähän vanhaa ruskeaa Arabiaa. Hienon rusehtava Edge-terrakottamaljakko on Skagerakin mallistoa ja tuomisia IMM-messuilta. Sekä ruokasalin että olohuoneen maljakossa on tällä hetkellä kirsikkapuun oksia. Magnoliat ovat jostakin syystä vielä jääneet kukkakauppaan, vaan ehkä niiden vuoro tulee näiden oksien kukinnan jälkeen.

(IT) Nel fine settimana ho cucito una nuova tovaglia utilizzando la stoffa di lino naturale che ho comprato da Ikea un po' di tempo fa. In questo momento mi piacciono tanto tutte le sfumature del marrone, da quello scuro a marrone chiaro, quindi ho tirato fuori dall'armadio anche vecchie stoviglie marroni di Arabia Finland. Il bellissimo vaso Edge di terracotta è di Skagerak e viene dalla fiera IMM. Sia in soggiorno che in sala da pranzo ho riempito i vasi con rami di ciliegio. Per qualche motivo non ho ancora comprato rami di magnolia ma penso sia il loro turno quando i fiori di ciliegio saranno appassiti.

(EN) During the weekend I sew a new tablecloth of the natural linen fabric I have bought at Ikea some time ago. At the moment I really love all shades of brown, from really dark to light ones so I took out some old brown Arabia Finland dishes. The beautiful terracotta vase is by Skagerak, it's a souvenir from the IMM fair. In both the dining room and the living room there are cherry branches put in a vase at the moment. For some reason I still haven't bought any magnolia branches this spring but I'll probably get some after the cherry flowers have withered.

Sunnuntaisaalis

(FI) Jälleen kerran täytyy todeta, että on tuo kirppiksellä käyminen palkitsevaa hommaa. Eilen haaviini tarttui uudenveroinen Richard Lindhin Arabialle suunnittelema kukkaruukku (1 euro), Iittalan iso Ego-kuppi (1,50 euroa) ja tiikkiset kalan muotoiset lasinaluset telineessä (1 euro). Ego-kuppi oli likainen ja pölyinen, mutta nyt pesun jälkeen se vaikuttaa ihan käyttämättömältä. Lasinaluset kaipaavat vielä öljyämistä, ennen kuin ne pääsevät käyttöön. Seuralaisenani ollut kuopus halusi ostaa itselleen yhden alimmassa kuvassa näkyvän pikkulautasen, mutta myyjä myi mieluummin 60 sentillä koko setin, johon kuuluu kuusi pientä ja yksi iso lautanen. Täytyy tunnustaa, että olen aina ihmetellyt, mihin tarkoitukseen nuo halkaisijaltaan alle kymmensenttiset lautaset on tarkoitettu, mutta internetistä sekin tieto löytyi. Jatkossa meillä osataan tarjoilla suklaakonvehdit ja muut pikkuherkut asianmukaisen tyylikkäästi.

(IT) Ancora una volta è stato dimostrato che vale proprio la pena andare al mercatino delle pulci. Ieri ho portato a casa un vaso per fiori vintage di Arabia, design Richard Lindh (1 euro), una tazza grande della serie Ego di Iittala (1,50 euro) e un set di sottobicchieri a forma di pesce in legno di teak (1 euro). La tazza era molto sporca e polverosa ma ora che l'ho lavata sembra proprio nuova. I sottobicchieri devono ancora essere trattati con olio prima di prenderli in uso. La secondogenita che mi ha accompagnata al mercatino voleva comprare uno dei piattini che si vedono nell'ultima foto ma il venditore ha preferito di vendere per 60 centesimi tutto il set che consiste di sei piattini e un piatto più grande. Devo confessare che non avevo mai capito a cosa servissero i piattini piccoli con il diametro sotto i dieci centimetri ma ho trovato la risposta su internet. Da ora in poi si servono i cioccolatini e altri dolcetti con stile anche a casa nostra.

(EN) Yesterday I noticed once again that it's worthwhile to visit flea markets. I ended up bringing home a vintage Arabia flower vase, design Richard Lindh, that looks like new (1 euro), a big Iittala Ego cup (1,50 euro) and a fish shaped teak coaster set (1 euro). The cup was pretty dirty and covered with dust but now that I've washed it it seems like it's never been used at all. The coasters still have to be treated with oil before use. My younger daughter who came with me wanted to buy one of the small plates in the last picture but the seller preferred to sell the whole set that consists of six small plates and one bigger plate for 60 cents. I have to admit I had never understood the purpose of the small plates with a max. 10 cm diameter but the answer was waiting for me on the Internet. From now on we will serve chocolate pralines and other sweet treats with style.

Narsissit ruukussa

(FI) Ruokapöydältä löytyy tällä hetkellä helmikuinen asetelma. Kynttilä muistuttaa vielä talvesta ja harmaa on varsin hallitseva väri ulkona pilvisinä päivinä, mutta vihreä tuo jo toivoa lähestyvästä keväästä. Sipuleista pitäisi aueta valkoisia mininarsisseja, mutta toistaiseksi on kyllä näkynyt pelkkiä lehtiä. Arabian kukkaruukku ja Hayn kynttilänjalka ovat peräisin kirppikseltä ja harmaa metallimaljakko löytyi lähisisustuskaupasta eli Summer Housesta.

(IT) Questa composizione di oggetti si trova ora sul tavolo da pranzo. La candela ricorda che febbraio è ancora un mese invernale e il grigio è il colore dominante fuori quando non c'è il sole ma il verde della pianta dice che la primavera sta per arrivare. I bulbi dovrebbero essere narcisi miniatura bianchi ma per il momento si vedono solo foglie. Il vaso nero di Arabia e il portacandela di Hay sono dal mercatino delle pulci e il vaso grigio l'ho trovato da Summer House, il negozio di arredamento qui vicino.

(EN) On our dining table there's this arrangement at the moment. The candle reminds that February is still a winter month and gray is mostly the colour you see outside but the green colour tells that spring is coming soon. The bulbs should be white miniature daffodils but for the moment I haven't seen anything but leaves. The black Arabia flower vase and the Hay candle holder are from the flea market and the gray vase is from the nearby home decor shop, Summer House.

Joulukuinen Helsinki

(FI) Kävin kuun vaihteessa muutaman päivän reissulla Helsingissä ja ehdin tehdä vaikka mitä mukavaa sen lisäksi, että hoidin tutkintoasiat kuntoon yliopistolla. Piipahdin muun muassa Arabian museolla (kuva yllä) ja TOKYO:n joulumyyjäisissä, kävin ystävien kanssa lounaalla, illallisella, kahvilla ja glögillä ja juhlin yksissä pikkujouluissa.

(IT) Ho passato alcuni giorni a Helsinki a cavallo del mese e sono riuscita a fare tante cose belle oltre a fare la domanda di laurea all'università. Ho tra l'altro visitato il museo di Arabia (foto sopra) e il mercatino di natale di TOKYO (unione degli studenti presso l'Università di Arte e Design di Helsinki), pranzato, cenato, preso un caffè oppure un vin brulé con amici e festeggiato a una festa di natale.

(EN) I spent a few days in Helsinki at the beginning of the month and managed to do lots of nice things beside submitting my diploma application at the university. Among other things, I visited the Arabia museum (picture above) and TOKYO's Christmas sale (TOKYO is the student association of the School of Arts, Design and Architecture in Helsinki), had lunch, dinner, coffee and mulled vine with friends and went to a Christmas party.

(FI) Tein vähän jouluostoksia pääasiassa Stockalla, Marimekon myymälässä ja Iittalan uudistuneessa Espan lippulaivamyymälässä, missä otin kaikki alla olevat kuvat. Olipa mukava reissu joka suhteessa!

(IT) Ho fatto un po' di shopping di natale da Stockmann, Marimekko e nel rinnovato flagship store di Iittala in Esplanadi dove ho fatto tutte le ultime foto. Il viaggio e stato veramente ben riuscito!

(EN) I did some Christmas shopping at Stockmann, Marimekko and the recently renovated Iittala flagship store in Esplanadi where I took the rest of the pictures. I really enjoyed every moment of this trip!

Viherosastoa

Meidän kodista löytyy tällä hetkellä aika monta viherkasvia viikoittain vaihtuvien leikkokukkien lisäksi. Viime viikonloppuna tyttäret voittivat Freimarktin arpajaisissa nuo pienet pyöreälehtiset kasvit, jotka pitää vielä istuttaa kunnolla ruukkuihin. Itselläni ei ole aavistustakaan, mitä kasvit ovat, mutta lehdet ovat hauskan kaksiväriset. Toivottavasti epäsäännöllinen kastelu aina muistaessamme riittää niiden hoidoksi. Richard Lindhin suunnittelemat Arabian vanhat kukkaruukut ovat niin yksinkertaisen kauniita, etten muita haluaisi käyttääkään. Kirpparilta olen harmi kyllä löytänyt pääasiassa vain pieniä kokoja. Terveisiä vaan Fiskarsille, että ne voisi ottaa uudestaan tuotantoon.

In questo momento abbiamo tante piante a casa oltre ai fiori che si cambiano spesso. Lo scorso fine settimana le bambine hanno vinto a Freimarkt le piccole piante da foglie rotonde che dovrei ancora travasare. Non ho idea che piante siano ma le figlie hanno le venature rosa. Speriamo che basta annaffiarle ogni tanto quando ci ricordiamo. I vecchi vasi di Arabia, design Richard Lindh, sono i miei preferiti, ma ai mercatini si trovano prevalentemente quelli più piccoli. Sarei molto contenta se Fiskars Home decidesse di rimetterli in produzione.

We have quite many indoor plants at home at the moment, in addition to the cut flowers that change every week. Last weekend my girls won the small plant with round leaves at Freimarkt and I must still plant them to the white flower pots. I have no idea what plants they are but the leaves look nice with the pink veins. I hope it's enough to water the plants every now and then when we remember. The old Arabia flower pots, designed by Richard Lindh, are my favorites. They are really simple and beautiful, but at the flea markets you mostly find the smallest size. I would be really happy if Fiskars Home started producing them again.

Ruskeaa ja valkoista

Diamond-tuolin vieressä hetken ollut ruskea sarjapöytä palasi alakerran työhuoneeseen ja sen tilalle tuli valkoinen Hayn Tray-pöytä. Huoneessa alkoi olla vähän liian monenlaista puunväriä, kun sohvapöytä on tammea, Artekin penkki koivua, ikkunanpuitteet keskiruskeat ja lattia kai lähinnä kirsikkaa. Tilasin pöydän Connoxilta torstai-iltana, ja toimitus oli niin uskomattoman nopea, että pöytä tuotiin jo seuraavana iltapäivänä. Harmi vain, etten ollut silloin kotona, ja täällä odotti vain lappu, jossa paketti käskettiin hakea postista. Mies meni lauantaiaamuna postiin hakemaan sitä, mutta ei saanut lähetystä mukaansa, koska olin unohtanut kirjoittaa nimeni valtakirjaan. Posti oli siinä vaiheessa tietysti jo menossa kiinni, joten pöytä saatiin lopulta kotiin vasta seuraavana maanantaina. Odottavan aika on pitkä... Valkoiselle pöydälle ja valaisimelle kontrastia antaa Arabian taideosaston valkosukkainen kulho, jonka olen pelastanut muutama vuosi sitten äitini kirppiskuormasta. Outo mutta jotenkin silti hauska esine oli lapsuudenkodissani aina takanreunuksella.

Il set di tavolini marroni che stava accanto alla sedia di Bertoia è tornato giù nello studio e nel suo posto si trova ora un tavolino Tray di Hay. C'erano troppi tipi di legno diverso nel soggiorno, visto che la panchina di Artek è di betulla, il tavolino grande di rovere, le cornici delle finestre marroni e i pavimenti assomigliano al legno di ciliegio. Ho ordinato il tavolino nuovo da Connox giovedì e la consegna è stata velocissima. Hanno cercato di portare il pacco già venerdì pomeriggio ma siccome non ero a casa ho trovato solo un bigliettino che diceva di andare a prendere la spedizione all'ufficio postale. Mio marito è andato a prenderla ma non gliela hanno dato perché ho dimenticato di mettere la mia firma nel bigliettino. Naturalmente l'ufficio postale stava già per chiudere e abbiamo avuto il tavolino solo lunedì. L'attesa è sembrata lunghissima... Sul tavolino c'è una vecchia ciotola marrone di Arabia per dare un po' di contrasto. L'ho salvata qualche anno fa da una scatola che mia madre doveva portare al mercatino delle pulci. Nella mia casa d'infanzia questa ciotola particolare ma simpatica stava sempre sul caminetto.

The dark brown nesting tables have moved back the the downstairs study and now there's a Hay Tray table next to the Bertoia chair. There were too many different kinds of wood in the living room since the Artek bench is made of birch, the coffee table of oak, the windows are brown and the floors resemble cherry wood. I ordered the table from Connox on Thursday and the delivery was incredibly fast. They tried to bring the package already on Friday afternoon but since I wasn't home I only found a note saying that we should pick the package up from the post office. My husband went there on Saturday when the post office was already about to close but didn't get the table since I forgot to put my signature to the note. We finally got the package on Monday and I really couldn't wait... On the table there's an old brown Arabia bowl that I have saved from a box my mother was going to take to the flea market. This somehow strange but interesting bowl used to be on the mantelpiece in my childhood home.

Kirppiksen kautta kotiin

Kaiken muun touhun lomassa olen ehtinyt käväistä kirpparillakin ja löytää vähän Suomi-designia: Arabian Ruskaa, Jukka Korpiheteen Kenno-tuikun ja Kaj Franckin lasilautasen. Kauan en saa näitä ostoksia nyt kyllä ihastella, sillä kohta ne ovat jo paperin sisällä muuttolaatikoissa. (Yksiön keittiön asennus muuten siirtyi ilmeisesti kahden viikon päähän, eikä viivästyksestä voitu tietenkään ilmoittaa meille etukäteen...)

Sono riuscita a fare un salto veloce al mercatino delle pulci e a trovare un po' di design finlandese: tazze Ruska di Arabia, portalumino Kenno di Jukka Korpihete e un piatto di Kaj Franck. Non posso ammirare questi acquisti a lungo però, visto che tra poco saranno avvolti nella carta e messi nella scatola. (A proposito della cucina del monolocale, potrà probabilmente essere montata solo tra un paio di settimane e non ci hanno fatto sapere niente prima...)

I managed to do a quick visit to a flea market and found some Finnish design:Arabia Ruska cups, tealight holder Kenno by Jukka Korpihete and a glass plate by Kaj Franck. These beauties will soon be wrapped in paper and put into a cardboard box, though. (By the way, the studio apartment kitchen can probably be installed only in a couple of weeks, but they couldn't inform us about the delay beforehand...)
