Eteisessä

(FI) Välillä taas vähän meidän omaa kotia. Alakerran sisääntulo ei ole todellakaan lempitilojani tässä talossa, sillä pintamateriaalit ovat mitä ovat ja eteinen on lisäksi varsin pimeä. Tilassa ei ole lainkaan pistorasiaa, mikä on varsin käsittämätöntä, ja porraskäytävän valot sammuvat itsestään, jolloin eteisessä liian pitkään puuhaileva saattaa yllättäen huomata olevansa pilkkopimeässä huoneessa. (Ja talvella tila lämmitetään irtopatterilla, johon otetaan virta jatkojohdon avulla kellaritiloista, sillä eihän täällä tietenkään ole myöskään minkäänlaista lämmitystä...) Pari parannusta on kuitenkin saatu kesän mittaan aikaan, joten tila saa nyt armon esiintyä kuvissa. Siirsimme penkin yläpuolella aiemmin olleen peilin kenkälipaston ylle, jolloin se heijastaa vähän tuulikaapista tulevaa valoa tilaan. Penkin yläpuolelle hankittiin Normann Copenhagenin Hang on -naulakko, johon tytöt saavat toivottavasti vastedes takkinsa ripustettua, ettei niitä tarvitse enää heittää penkille. Haluaisin tilaan mielläni ison maton, mutta sen estää sisäänpäin avautuva tuulikaapin ovi. Niinpä on tyytyminen vain pieneen mattoon, joka on portaiden ja penkin välissä. Valaisinpulmaan löytyi ratkaisuksi Fatboyn ladattava Edison the Petit -valaisin, jonka voi napsauttaa päälle siksi aikaa kun ripustaa takkia naulakkoon tai etsii oikeaa kenkäparia. Tuulikaappissa on lisäksi liiketunnistimella varustettu ledipolttimo, joka syttyy jo naulakon edessä hääriessä.Ei tästä eteisestä edelleenkään kummoistakaan käyntikorttia kodille saanut, mutta toimivuutta sentään löytyy jo kohtuullisesti.Mukavaa viikonlopun jatkoa!

(IT) Eccoci a casa nostra per cambiare. L'ingresso di piano terra non è per nulla tra i miei spazi preferiti di questa casa perché i materiali sono quello che sono e la stanza è anche piuttosto buia. Nello spazio non c'è nessuna presa elettrica, il che mi sembra veramente strano, e le luci della scala si spengono automaticamente quindi uno che passa troppo tempo nell'ingresso può all'improvviso restare al buio. (In inverno abbiamo qui un termosifone elettrico attaccato alla presa della stanza accanto tramite una prolunga, perché non c'è neanche riscaldamento a piano terra...) Siamo riusciti a migliorare comunque un paio di cose durante l'estate quindi faccio un'eccezione e mostro questo spazio nel blog. Abbiamo spostato lo specchio che prima stava sopra la panchina e l'abbiamo appeso appeso sopra la scarpiera, in modo che rifletta più luce nella stanza. Sopra la panca invece abbiamo messo l'appendiabiti Hang On di Normann Copenhagen. Spero che le figlie siano ora capaci di appendere le loro giacche invece di buttarele sulla panchina. Mi piacerebbe avere un tappeto grande per terra ma lo impedisce la porta vetrata che si apre verso l'interno. Perciò abbiamo messo solo un tappeto più piccolo tra la scala e la panchina. Il problema della luce l'abbiamo risolto con la lampada ricaricabile Edison The Petit di Fatboy che si può ora accendere prima di cominciare ad appendere la giacca oppure a cercare un paio di scarpe. Senza fare cambiamenti più drastici lo spazio non sarà mai bellissimo ma almeno è già piuttosto funzionale. Buon fine settimana!

(EN) Let's talk about our home for a change. The ground floor level entry is really not one of my favourate spaces in this house because I don't like the flooring or the other materials and there's not much light in the room. Another thing that's missing is a socket, which I find really strange, and the staircase lights turn off automatically so if you're too slow in the entry you can suddenly be in a dark room.(During the winter we heat the place with an electric radiator using an extension cord that goes to the closest cellar room, because there's also no heating on the basement level...) We were anyhow able to do a couple of improvements during the summer so I'll make an exception and show you this space. We moved the mirror that used to be above the bench and hung it above the shoe cabinet so that it reflects more light into the space. Above the bench there's now the Hang On coat rack by Normann Copenhagen. I hope our girls will now be able to hang their coats so they no longer have to throw them on the bench. I would like to have one big rug on the floor but it's not possible since the door opens inwards. Therefor we only have a smaller rug between the stairs and the bench. We resolved the light problem with Edison the Petit lamp by Fatboy. It's rechargeable and you can switch it on before you start to hang your coat or to look for a pair of shoes. This space will never be really nice without some serious renovation but at least it's now quite functional. Have a lovely weekend!

Senkki ennen ja jälkeen

(FI) Eteisen senkki on saanut uudet nuppivetimet, joten pääsen esittelemään kalusteen muutoksen koko komeudessaan.Tosin muistin tässä välissä, että kellarissa on jossain jemmassa myös Ikean mustia metallivetimiä, jotka saattaisivat myös sopia senkin tyyliin. Ehkä kaivelen ne joskus esille ja kokeilen, kummat näyttävät paremmalta. Maalasin senkin siis Annie Sloanin kalkkimaalin sävyllä grafiitinharmaa, minkä jälkeen pintaan tuli vielä vahakerros. Paklasin vanhojen vetimien reiät umpeen ennen maalaamista eikä entisiä reikiä juurikaan huomaa, jollei oikein etsimällä etsi. Harmaana päivänä otetut kuvat eivät tee oikeutta lipaston uudelle ilmeelle, mutta voin taata, että eteisnäkymä on nykyään paljon miellyttävämpi kuin ennen maalausprojektia. Ensimmäisestä kuvasta näkee sen, miten kivasti lähes musta sävy tuo kontrastia ruskean puun rinnalle, joka tuntui tilassa aiemmin liian hallitsevalta.

(IT) Il mobile d'ingresso ha ora nuovi pomoli quindi posso farvi vedere come si è cambiato. Nel frattempo mi sono però anche ricordata che abbiamo da qualche parte in cantina dei pomoli neri di Ikea che potrebbero anche starci. Forse li cerco qualche volta e provo quali ci stanno meglio. Ho quindi dipinto il mobile con vernice gessosa di Annie Sloan, colore graphite, dopodichè ho aggiunto uno strato di cera protettiva. Ho stuccato i buchi delle vecchie maniglie e non si notano più. Le foto sono purtroppo scattata durante una giornata grigia quindi non rendono giustizia al risultato finale ma vi posso garantire che l'ingresso sembra ora molto più invitante. Nella prima foto si vede come il colore quasi nero da contrasto al legno marrone che prima dominava un po' troppo.

(EN) The entryway sideboard has got new knobs so I can show you how it has changed. Actually, in the meanwhile I have also remembered that we have some black Ikea knobs somewhere in the basement that might also look nice. Maybe I'll search them one of these days and see which ones are better. I painted the sideboard with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in graphite and finished the surface with soft wax. I covered the old handle holes with filler and you really can't notice them anymore. These pictures taken on a gray day don't do justice to the end result but I can guarantee that the entryway looks a lot better now. You can see in the first picture how the almost black colour gives a nice contrast to the dark brown wood that used to be a bit too dominating in the space.

Melkein valmista

(FI) Muistatteko meidän eteisen puunvärisen senkin, jonka ajattelin maalata mustaksi? Se on nyt vaihtanut väriä, muttei mustaksi vaan tumman grafiitinharmaaksi. Muutosprojekti on melkein valmis, enää puuttuu vahapinnan kiillotus ja tietysti vetimet. Ostin kyllä jo ennen maalaamista mustat posliinivetimet, mutta nyt tuntuukin siltä, että rosteriset toimisivat paremmin, joten täytyy käydä katselemassa valikoimia. Palaan vielä ennen ja jälkeen -kuvien kera, kun vetimetkin ovat paikoillaan, mutten malttanut olla näyttämättä jo kuvia tässä vaiheessa. Eikö vanha rouva kokenutkin melkoinen kasvojenkohotuksen?

(IT) Vi ricordate del mobile color legno che avevamo nell'ingresso e che volevo verniciare nero? Ora il colore è cambiato ma invece del nero il mobile è diventato grigio grafite. Il progetto è quasi pronto, devo solo lucidare ancora la cera nel superficie e aggiungere le maniglie. Prima di verniciare ho comprato delle maniglie nere in ceramica ma ora mi sembra che le maniglie color acciaio ci stiano molto meglio quindi devo andare a vedere cosa si trova nei negozi. Tornerò ancora con le foto del mobile prima e dopo quando ho messo anche le maniglie ma volevo farvi vedere un anteprima già ora. Non vi sembra un bel lifting al vecchio mobile?

(EN) Do you remember the wooden sideboard we had in our entry that I wanted to paint black? Now the sideboard has a new colour but it's graphite gray instead of black. The project ist almost done, I only have to polish the wax surface and add new handles. I already bought some black ceramic knobs before painting but now it seems to me that stainless steel knobs would look much better so I have to check what's available in the shops. I will show you some before and after pictures when I have installed also the handles but I wanted to show you some pictures already at this point. The old sideboard got a pretty nice facelift, don't you think ?

Kuutamo eteisessä

(FI) Meidän eteisen valaistuspuoli alkaa olla hallussa, kun väliaikainen kattovalaisinratkaisu vaihtui One Nordicin Kuu-valaisimeen, josta jo kirjoittelinkin aiemmin. Mietin pitkään isomman ja pienemmän koon välillä, mutta kyllä tämä pieni on mittasuhteiltaan oikea tähän tilaan. Isompi olisi pitänyt ripustaa lähes kiinni kattoon, jotteivät roikkuvat rypistysnauhat olisi heiluneet liian alhaalla. Kuu sopii ainakin omasta mielestäni kivasti täydentämään uutta ja vanhaa yhdistelevää sisustusta. Kuuluuko soraääniä esimerkiksi Tuijan suunnalta?

(IT) L'illuminazione del nostro ingresso comincia ad essere sistemata ora che abbiamo cambiato la lampada temporanea per una lampada Kuu di One Nordic di cui ho già scritto prima. Ero un po' indecisa tra il modello più grande e quello più piccolo ma alla fine questo piccolo ha le proporzioni giuste per lo spazio. La lampada più grande avrebbe dovuto essere appesa quasi al tetto per evitare che le cordicelle che pendono arrivassero troppo in basso. Secondo me Kuu sta molto bene in questa miscela di mobili ed elementi d'arredo moderni e vecchi. Voi che ne pensate?

(EN) Our entryway lighting is pretty much ready now that we changed the temporary lighting fixture to a Kuu lamp by One Nordic I have already written a post on. I hesitated for quite a while between the bigger and the smaller one but at the end this smaller lamp has the right proportions for the space. We should have hung the bigger one almost attached to the ceiling in order to avoid that the hanging strings would be too low. I find that the lamp completes nicely the mixture of old and things things in the space. Do you agree?

Eteisen ehostus

(FI) Ehdimme viikonloppuna tekemään kotona taas pari pientä hommaa, jotka olivat odottaneet jo jonkin aikaa työlistalla. Kiinnitimme eteiseen seinävalaisimen, jolloin lipaston päällä on enemmän vapaata laskutilaa. Siihen kun haluaa kotiin tullessa yleensä laskea kädessä olevat tavarat. Valaisimen johto roikkuu ns. rennosti seinällä, mutta kun seinässä ei ole sähkövetoa valaisinta varten niin ei ollut juuri muuta vaihtoehtoa. Seinälle pääsi myös pronssiveistos, jolle emme olleet aiemmin keksineet sopivaa paikkaa. Veistos on näköjään tuomittu asustamaan eteisessä, sillä siihen se päätyi nyt jo kolmannessa asunnossa. Olen muuten kallistumassa siihen suuntaan, että maalaan tuon "mummosenkin" mustaksi. Ruskean eri sävyjä alkaa olla tilassa aika monta, ja luulen, että lipaston mummomaisuuskin vähenisi värin vaihtamisen myötä.

(IT) Durante il fine settimana abbiamo fatto a casa un paio di cose che aspettavano già da un po'. Abbiamo attaccato una lampadina sulla parete dell'ingresso per liberare il ripiano del mobile. È bello poterci posare le cose  quando arriviamo a casa. Il cavo della lampada appende in modo rilassato ma era l'unica soluzione possibile visto che nel muro non c'è impianto elettrico per una lampada da parete. Abbiamo appeso anche il bronzo che non aveva ancora trovato un posto adatto in questa casa. Non so perché ma il bronzo  era situato nell'ingresso anche nelle nostre due case precedenti. A proposito del mobile, penso che diventerà a qualche punto nero. Ci sono un po' troppe sfumature diverse del marrone nello stesso spazio e secondo me il mobile sarebbe anche più elegante in nero.

(EN) During the weekend we did a couple of things at home that had been on the to-do list for a while. We attached a wall lamp in the entry hall so that there's more free space on the sideboard. It's really nice to be able to put things down when you arrive at home. The cord is hanging on the wall in a relaxed way but there was really no other solution since the the wall has no electric wiring for a wall lamp.We also hung on the wall a bronze statue that hadn't found it's place yet. At the end it always seems to end up in the entry hall wall since this is already the third house the same thing happens. By the way, I'm pretty sure that I want to paint the sideboard black. There's too many different shades of brown in the same space and I think the sideboard would also look much more elegant once painted black.

Kenkäkaappi

Alaeteisen toinen seinusta jäi täysin tyhjäksi, kun Componibili siirtyi makuuhuoneeseen. Kaipasimme tilaan kuitenkin jonkinlaista tasoa, jolle voi laskea esimerkiksi postit sisään tullessa, ja koska kenkiä tuntuu aina olevan enemmän kuin säilytystilaa, haimme Ikeasta valkoisen kenkäkaapin. Siihen uppoaa taas ainakin kahdeksat kengät, kunhan joku muistaisi vielä nostaa ne paikoilleen.

L'altra parete dell'ingresso a piano terra è rimasta completamente vuota quando ho spostato il Componibili nella camera da letto. Ci voleva comunque qualcosa su cui poter appoggiare cose quando si entra in casa e siccome sembra che ci siano sempre più scarpe che spazio dove metterle, abbiamo comprato da Ikea una scarpiera bianca. Ora ci vanno almeno otto paia di scarpe se qualcuno solo ricorda di metterle dentro.

One of the walls of the downstairs entry hall was completely empty after I moved the Componibili to the bedroom. Since we needed some kind of a shelf or something where to put things when coming in and since there always seems to be more shoes than space for them we bought a white shoe cabinet from Ikea. Now there's space at least for eight pairs of shoes if someone only remembered to put the inside the cabinet.

Kirppispeili

Tällaisen peilin sain kirpparilta reilu viikko sitten ilmaiseksi mukaani. Kehys on aika kellastunutta mäntyä, joten se pitää hioa kevyesti ja maalata, mutta muuten peili on tosi siistissä kunnossa. Nyt pitää enää päättää, tuleeko kehyksestä musta vai valkoinen. Maalia ostin kumpaakin väriä, jottei tarvinnut tehdä päätöstä rautakaupassa. Löysin netistä kuvan hyvin samanlaisesta peilistä, jossa on musta kehys, ja valkokehyksisestä mittasuhteiltaan hieman erilaisesta peilistä. Niistä saa vähän käsitystä siitä, miltä maalattu lopputulos saattaisi näyttää. Alin kuva on surkean rakeinen, mutta siitä näkee kokonaan seinän, jolle peili pitäisi ripustaa. Alan ehkä kallistua valkoisen kannalle, sillä musta kehys olisi aika hallitseva ja raskaan näköinen. Sen sijaan voisin maalata jossain vaiheessa alla olevan senkin mustaksi ja vaihtaa sen vetimet. Kokonaisuudesta voisi tulla silloin aika kiva.

Ecco com'è lo specchio che ho avuto gratis al mercatino delle pulci. La cornice è abbastanza ingiallita quindi la devo grattare e verniciare ma per il resto lo specchio è in ottime condizioni. Ora devo solo decidere se la cornice sarà bianca o nera. Ho comprato tutt'e due colori di vernice per non dover decidere alla ferramenta. Ho trovato su internet una foto di uno specchio molto simile con la cornice nera e di uno bianco che ha le proporzioni un po' diverse. Comunque danno un'idea su come sarebbe il risultato finale. L'ultima foto è venuta veramente male ma fa vedere tutta la parete su cui dovremmo appendere lo specchio. Forse preferisco bianco perché la cornice nera potrebbe sembrare troppo pesante. Invece potrei verniciare di nero il mobile o e cambiare le maniglie. Così l'ingresso potrebbe essere abbastanza simpatico.

Here's the mirror I got for free at the flea market. The frame is quite yellow so I'll have to sand and paint it but for the rest the mirror is in a good shape. Now I only have to decide whether it's going to be black or white. I already went to buy paint and took both the colours so that I didn't have to decide in the shop. I found on the internet a picture of a really similar mirror with a black frame and another one of a white mirror that has a bit wider frame. Anyhow the pictures give a pretty good idea of what the end results would be like. The last picture is quite poor quality but there you can see the whole wall where the mirror will be hung. I think I prefer the white one since the black frame could look a bit too heavy. Instead I could paint the sideboard black and change its handles. That way the entry hall might look quite nice.

Eteisessä

Eteisen kalusteet ovat lähes kaikki tummia perintökalusteita, ja huone on muutenkin kovin pimeä, sillä se sijaitsee keskellä asuntoa ja kaukana kaikista ikkunoista. Leikkasin tilaa piristämään parvekkeella olevasta hortensiasta kuivuneen kukinnon, johon on tullut aika hieno väritys, ja huomasin, että Tine K:n tuikkukuppi sopii sävyltään hyvin sen kaveriksi. Nyt eteisessäkin loistaa iltaisin tunnelmallinen kynttilänvalo.

L'ingresso è arredato con vecchi mobili scuri e lo spazio è molto buio perché è situatio al centro dell'appartamento e le finestre sono lontane. Ho tagliato un fiore secco dall'ortensia che sta sul balcone per decorare la stanza e mi sono accorta che il portalumino di Tine K ci sta benissimo accanto. Ora c'è luce di candela anche nell'ingresso ogni sera.

The entry hall of the apartment is furnished with dark old wooden furniture and the room itself is really dark since it is situated in the middle of the apartment and there are no windows close to it. I cut a dry flower from the hydrangea I have on the balcony and put it in a small glass vase in order the decorate the space a little bit. Then I noticed that the Tine K votive looks really nice beside the flower, so now there's candle light also in the entry hall in the evening.

Tervetuloa meille!

Meillä on hyvin pitkä ja kapea eteinen, jonka sisustaminen on ollut melkoinen haaste, mutta nyt olen siihen aika tyytyväinen. Kenkäpenkin olemme teettäneet puusepällä ja sen yläpuolella olevan naulakon tein itse tammilaudasta ja Ikean nupeista. Patterin yläpuolella on ulosvedettävä kuivausteline, jolle saa talvella märät pipot ja hanskat.

Abbiamo un ingresso molto lungo e stretto e arredarlo non è stato facile. Ora ne sono comunque piuttosto contenta. La panchina portascarpe l'abbiamo fatta fare dal falegname e l'appendiabiti sopra l'ho fatto io da una tavola di rovere e ganci di Ikea. Sopra il termosifone c'è uno stendino estensibile per i guanti e berretti bagnati (soprattutto d'inverno).

We have a really long and narrow entryway and furnishing the space has been really challenging. I'm pretty happy with the results, though. The shoe bench was made by a carpenter and I made the coat rack from an oak board and Ikea's knobs. Above the radiator there's a rack where you can hang the wet gloves and mittens during the winter.
