(FI) Pari päivää sitten kaivoin esille kaikki meidän lampaantaljat. Vanha safarituolikin on nyt puettu talviasuun, ja täytyy sanoa, että lampaantalja parantaa huomettavasti sen istumamukavuutta. Tuolin viereen päätyi vähän ylimääräiseksi jäänyt pikkupöytä, joka oli aiemmin olohuoneessa kukkapöytänä. Erillistä lukuvaloa tuohon ei onneksi kaipaa, sillä suoraan yläpuolella on hyvän valon antava yleisvalaisin. Siis sikäli onneksi, että muuten sähköjohto kulkisi keskellä lattiaa. Uutta kaunista lukuvalaisinta vastaan minulla ei tietysti olisi mitään ;)

(IT) Un paio di giorni fa ho tirato fuori tutte le pelli di pecora. Ho vestito la sedia safari per l'inverno e con la pelle di pecora è anche molto più comoda. Accanto alla sedia c'è un tavolino che e rimasto senza uso, prima si trovava in soggiorno accanto alla poltrona. Una lampada da lettura non serve qui per fortuna, visto che direttamente sopra c'è una lampada che da una buona luce diffusa in tutta la stanza. Dico per fortuna, perché non vorrei avere un cavo elettrico che passa per terra. Una nuova lampada da lettura invece non mi dispiacerebbe affatto ;)

(EN) A couple of days ago I took out all our sheep skins. I dressed the old safari chair for winter and with the sheep skin it's also much more comfortable.  Next to the chair there's now a small table that used to be in the living room but isn't needed there anymore. Luckily we don't need a reading light for this place since there's a pendant light straight above and it gives a very good light to the whole room. I say luckily because I would hate to have an eletric cord in the middle of the room. Otherwise I wouldn't mind a nice new lamp of course ;)

Marimekko ja Iittala Milanossa

(FI) Olette varmaan jo ehtineet nähdä kuvia Marimekon Artekin kanssa yhteistyössä sisustamasta Marimekko Homesta Milanossa, mutta tehdään silti vielä kierros tuossa hurmaavassa huoneistossa. Olen jo pitkään kaivannut Marimekkon kirkkaiden värien rinnalle maanläheisempää sävymaailmaa, joten olin todella iloisesti yllättynyt, kun kävelin sisälle asuntoon ja näin syksyn ja talven uutuusmalliston. Artekin vintagekalusteet tekivät kokonaisuudesta vielä todella kutsuvan ja kotoisan. En panisi pahakseni, jos meidän kotiin ilmestyisi syksyllä ruskea sohvatyyny tai nahkakahvainen tarjoilukulho. Myös Urna-maljakon uusi siniharmaa väri on näytti todella kauniilta, ja Carina Seth-Anderssonin maljakoita saattaa kuulemma näkyä jatkossakin uusissa kausiväreissä. Onnittelut Marimekolle upeista uusista tuulista!

Iittala lanseerasi Milanossa virallisesti Iittala X Issey Miyake -mallistonsa Italian markkinoille, vaikka se on Suomessa ollut myynnissä jo jonkin aikaa. Lehdistöaamiaisella kerrottiin malliston syntyvaiheista, ja paikalla ollut Sachiko Yamamoto Miyake Design Studiosta näytti muun muassa, miten tekstiileissä olevat kestovekit syntyvät. Astioista en nyt julkaise kuvia, koska ne lienevät jo kaikille tuttuja, mutta seinälle nostetut tekstiilit näyttävät niin kivoilta, että niitä saatte ihailla postauksen lopuksi. Löytyykö teiltä jo kotoa Miyake-mallistoa?

(IT) Sono sicura che avete già visto foto della Casa Marimekko che Marimekko aveva arredato in collaborazione con Artek a Milano per il Fuorisalone, ma ecco comunque un altro giro in quell'appartamento bellissimo. Ho a lungo sperato che Marimekko usasse anche colori più neutri oltre a quelli primari e brillanti quindi è stata una sorpresa molto piacevole vedere la nuova collezione autunno/inverno 2016. I mobili vintage di Artek rendevano inoltre tutto l'arredo veramente invitante ed accogliente. Non mi dispiacerebbe affatto vedere qualche cuscino marrone oppure una ciotola per servire con una maniglia di pelle a casa nostra quest'autunno. Anche il colore grigio-blu del vaso Urna era proprio elegante e mi hanno detto che i vasi di Carina Seth-Andersson usciranno anche in futuro in nuovi colori stagionali. Complimenti a Marimekko per la nuova direzione presa con questa collezione!

Iittala ha presentato a Milano la collezione Iittala X Issey Miyake per il mercato italiano anche se in Finlandia i prodotti sono già in vendita da un po'. Durante la colazione stampa l'azienda ha raccontato com'è nata la collezione e Sachiko Yamamoto dal Miyake Design Studio ha tra l'altro mostrato come si fanno le pieghe permanenti dei tessuti. Non pubblico qui foto delle stoviglie perché penso le conosciate già ma finisco il post con una foto dei tessuti della collezione attaccate alla parete. Avete già qualcosa di questa collezione a casa?

(EN) I'm pretty sure you have already seen pictures of the Marimekko Home apartment that Marimekko had decorated in collaboration with Artek for the Milan Design Week but here's anyway another tour in this wonderful place. I had hoped for a long time that Marimekko would use also some softer colours in addition to the bright tones in their textiles so I was pleasantly surprised when I walked in and saw their new autumn/winter 2016 collection. Vintage furniture by Artek completed the cosy and inviting feel in the apartment. I wouldn't mind having a brown cushion on our couch or serve some treats from a bowl with a leather handle next autumn. Urna vase in the new blue-gray colour looked stunning, and I was told that the vases by Carina Seth-Andersson might get also other seasonal colours in the future. Congratulations to Marimekko for the new direction taken with this collection!

Iittala presented in Milan their Iittala X Issey Miyake collection for the Italian market even though the products have already been in shops for a while in Finland. During the press breakfast the company representatives told how the collaboration started and the products were born and Sachiko Yamamoto from the Miyake Design Studio showed how the pleatings are made. You won't see any pictures of the dishes here because I think you already know how they look, however at the end of this post there's a picture of the collection's beautiful textiles hanging on the wall. (FI) Hyvää itsenäisyyspäivää ja Pyhän Nikolauksen päivää ja terveiset Ninjan kahviporukalle! Nostin juhlan kunniaksi Timo Sarpanevan upeat Arkipelago-kynttilänjalat ruokasalin ikkunalle. Ikkunankin olisin näemmä saanut pestä, mutten nyt ehtinyt... Meillä on kotona yksi nuhanenä ja se vähän rajoittaa viikonlopun aktiviteettejä, mutta illalla ollaan ainakin menossa ystäville herkuttelemaan pizzalla. Lapset laskivat eilen, että enää kaksi viikkoa koulua ja sitten alkaa joululoma, joten huomenna taitaa olla jo korkea aika pitää piparinleipomistalkoot.

(IT) Buona festa dell'indipendenza per i finlandesi e buon San Nicolò a quelli che lo festeggiano e saluti a tutto il circolo del caffè di Ninja! Ho messo per l'occasione i bellissimi portacandela Arkipelago di Timo Sarpaneva sul davanzale della finestra nella sala da pranzo. Ora vedo dalle foto che avrei dovuto anche lavare la finestra... Noi abbiamo qui una piccola paziente a cui scola il naso quindi non saremo molto in giro durante il fine settimana ma almeno andremo a mangiare la pizza dagli amici stasera. I bambini calcolavano ieri che ci sono solo due settimana di scuola prima delle vacanze di natale quindi sarà ora di fare pan di zenzero domani.

(EN) Happy Independence Day to all the Finns and happy Saint Nicholas Day to those who celebrate it and greetings to Ninjas coffee club! I put Timo Sarpaneva's wonderful Arkipelago candle holders on the dining room window sill for the occation. The pictures show that I should also have washed the window... We have one small flu patient with a runny nose here so we're not going to be much out and about this weekend but at least we're going to have pizza at our friend's place this evening. Our girls counted yesterday that there are only two weeks of school left before Christmas holidays so it's about time to bake some gingerbread tomorrow.

Kahvihetki Toven seurassa

(FI) Tänään on kulunut 100 vuotta Tove Janssonin syntymästä, joten nautin lauantain aamukahvit luonnollisesti Muumi-mukista. Itse en omista ainuttakaan mukia, mutta tyttärillä on niitä ihan reilu kokoelma, joten lainasin esikoisen Muumi hurraa -mukia. Mukin kuvahan on peräisin kirjasta Kuka lohduttaisi Nyytiä, joka kuului lapsena lempikirjoihini. Kirjan kuvitus ja teksti vangitsevat taitavasti erilaisia tunnelmia pelottavasta yön hämärästä värikkäseen juhlahumuun, ja luulen, että juuri se vetosi minuun niin suuresti. Meidän lapsetkin ovat muuten tutustuneet Toven Janssonin tuotantoon kirjojen kautta, sillä etenkin esikoisesta Muumi-piirretyt olivat pitkään ihan liian pelottavia. Nyt ne taitavat olla jo ihan liian lapsellisia... Hyvää viikonloppua!

(IT) Oggi si celebrano i 100 anni dalla nascita della grande scrittrice e pittrice finlandese, Tove Jansson, che ha creato i Mumin, amati dai bambini in tutto il mondo. Non potevo quindi non bere il mio caffellatte del sabato da una tazza Mumin di cui le figlie anno hanno una discreta collezione. Ho preso in prestito la tazza Muumi hurraa (Evviva Mumin) della primogenita. L'immagine della tazza viene dal libro Piccolo Knitt, tutto solo che era uno dei miei libri preferiti da bambina. Il testo e le immagini catturano una serie di emozioni dalla paura nel cuore della notte alla gioia durante una festa allegra e penso che il libro mi piaceva proprio per quello. Anche le nostre figlie hanno avuto il primo contatto con l'opera di Tove Jansson leggendo libri perché specialmente la primogenita trovava a lungo i cartoni animati dei Mumin troppo spaventosi. Ora sarebbero probabilmente troppo infantili... Buon fine settimana!

(EN) Today it's Tove Jansson's 100th anniversary and to celebrate the famous Finnish novelist, painter and illustrator I had my Saturday morning coffee from a Moomin mug. I personally don't own any Moomin mugs but my daughters have a small collection so I borrowed my older daughter's Muumi hurraa (Hooray Moomin) mug. The image on the mug comes from Jansson's book Who Will Comfort Toffle? that was one of my favourite books as a child. The texts and images in the book capture a gamut of emotions, from fear and loneliness during the night to joy in a colourful party. I think that's what I loved about this book. Also our daughters have got to know Tove Jansson through her books since especially my older daughter found the Moomin cartoons too scary for a long time. Now she probably finds them really boring... Have a nice weekend!

Sunnuntaisaalis

(FI) Jälleen kerran täytyy todeta, että on tuo kirppiksellä käyminen palkitsevaa hommaa. Eilen haaviini tarttui uudenveroinen Richard Lindhin Arabialle suunnittelema kukkaruukku (1 euro), Iittalan iso Ego-kuppi (1,50 euroa) ja tiikkiset kalan muotoiset lasinaluset telineessä (1 euro). Ego-kuppi oli likainen ja pölyinen, mutta nyt pesun jälkeen se vaikuttaa ihan käyttämättömältä. Lasinaluset kaipaavat vielä öljyämistä, ennen kuin ne pääsevät käyttöön. Seuralaisenani ollut kuopus halusi ostaa itselleen yhden alimmassa kuvassa näkyvän pikkulautasen, mutta myyjä myi mieluummin 60 sentillä koko setin, johon kuuluu kuusi pientä ja yksi iso lautanen. Täytyy tunnustaa, että olen aina ihmetellyt, mihin tarkoitukseen nuo halkaisijaltaan alle kymmensenttiset lautaset on tarkoitettu, mutta internetistä sekin tieto löytyi. Jatkossa meillä osataan tarjoilla suklaakonvehdit ja muut pikkuherkut asianmukaisen tyylikkäästi.

(IT) Ancora una volta è stato dimostrato che vale proprio la pena andare al mercatino delle pulci. Ieri ho portato a casa un vaso per fiori vintage di Arabia, design Richard Lindh (1 euro), una tazza grande della serie Ego di Iittala (1,50 euro) e un set di sottobicchieri a forma di pesce in legno di teak (1 euro). La tazza era molto sporca e polverosa ma ora che l'ho lavata sembra proprio nuova. I sottobicchieri devono ancora essere trattati con olio prima di prenderli in uso. La secondogenita che mi ha accompagnata al mercatino voleva comprare uno dei piattini che si vedono nell'ultima foto ma il venditore ha preferito di vendere per 60 centesimi tutto il set che consiste di sei piattini e un piatto più grande. Devo confessare che non avevo mai capito a cosa servissero i piattini piccoli con il diametro sotto i dieci centimetri ma ho trovato la risposta su internet. Da ora in poi si servono i cioccolatini e altri dolcetti con stile anche a casa nostra.

(EN) Yesterday I noticed once again that it's worthwhile to visit flea markets. I ended up bringing home a vintage Arabia flower vase, design Richard Lindh, that looks like new (1 euro), a big Iittala Ego cup (1,50 euro) and a fish shaped teak coaster set (1 euro). The cup was pretty dirty and covered with dust but now that I've washed it it seems like it's never been used at all. The coasters still have to be treated with oil before use. My younger daughter who came with me wanted to buy one of the small plates in the last picture but the seller preferred to sell the whole set that consists of six small plates and one bigger plate for 60 cents. I have to admit I had never understood the purpose of the small plates with a max. 10 cm diameter but the answer was waiting for me on the Internet. From now on we will serve chocolate pralines and other sweet treats with style.

Joulukuinen Helsinki

(FI) Kävin kuun vaihteessa muutaman päivän reissulla Helsingissä ja ehdin tehdä vaikka mitä mukavaa sen lisäksi, että hoidin tutkintoasiat kuntoon yliopistolla. Piipahdin muun muassa Arabian museolla (kuva yllä) ja TOKYO:n joulumyyjäisissä, kävin ystävien kanssa lounaalla, illallisella, kahvilla ja glögillä ja juhlin yksissä pikkujouluissa.

(IT) Ho passato alcuni giorni a Helsinki a cavallo del mese e sono riuscita a fare tante cose belle oltre a fare la domanda di laurea all'università. Ho tra l'altro visitato il museo di Arabia (foto sopra) e il mercatino di natale di TOKYO (unione degli studenti presso l'Università di Arte e Design di Helsinki), pranzato, cenato, preso un caffè oppure un vin brulé con amici e festeggiato a una festa di natale.

(EN) I spent a few days in Helsinki at the beginning of the month and managed to do lots of nice things beside submitting my diploma application at the university. Among other things, I visited the Arabia museum (picture above) and TOKYO's Christmas sale (TOKYO is the student association of the School of Arts, Design and Architecture in Helsinki), had lunch, dinner, coffee and mulled vine with friends and went to a Christmas party.

(EN) I did some Christmas shopping at Stockmann, Marimekko and the recently renovated Iittala flagship store in Esplanadi where I took the rest of the pictures. I really enjoyed every moment of this trip!

Meidän Wirkkalat

Sar P Materian taju -blogista heitti muutama viikko sitten haasteen esitellä omasta kodista löytyvät Tapio Wirkkalan suunnittelemat esineet. Meillä on niitä itse asiassa aika vähän, mutta kokoelma kasvoi sentään hiljattain Rosethalin korkealla maljakolla, joka näkyy kuvissa takimmaisena. Hintaa maljakolla oli outoa kyllä vain kahdeksan euroa, vaikka kirppismyyjä tiesi sen valmistajan. MoMA:n kokoelmissa on saman sarjan matalampi maljakko. Valaisin on Artekista, Winterreise-maljakko samaten kirppikseltä ja karahvi Iittalan Iittalan myymälästä. Kirjan ostin EMMA-museossa vuonna 2009 olleesta Wirkkala-näyttelystä, jossa oli esillä toinen toistaan upeampia vaneriveistoksia.

Sar P dal blog Materian taju ha lanciato qualche settimana fa la sfida di mostrare tutti gli oggetti progettati da Tapio Wirkkala che ci sono a casa. Noi non ne abbiamo tanti ma la collezione è cresciuta di recente con il vaso bianco alto di Rosenthal che si vede nelle foto. Il venditore ne ha chiesto solo otto euro al mercatino delle pulci anche se conosceva il produttore. Nella collezione di MoMA c'è la versione più bassa dello stesso vaso. La lampada è da Artek, il vaso Winterreise anche dal mercatino e la caraffa dal negozio di Iittala a Iittala. Il libro l'ho comprato nel 2009 alla mostra di Wirkkala al museo EMMA dove c'erano tante statue bellissime fatte di compensato.

Sar P from the blog Materian taju started a few weeks ago a blog challange in which she asked to show all the things you have at home that have been designed by Tapio Wirkkala. We actually don't have that many but the collection grew recently with the white tall vase you can see in the picture. It only cost 8 euro on the flea market even though the seller knew the vase was made by Rosenthal. The smaller version of the same vase is part of the MoMA Collection. The lamp is from Artek, the Winterreise vase also from the flea market and the decanter from the Iittala shop in Iittala. I bought the book when I went to see the Wirkkala exhibition in EMMA museum in 2009. The exhibition concentrated on Wirkkala's wonderful plywood sculptures.

Esikoisen huone

Kiristys ja lahjonta toimivat jälleen kerran ja esikoisen huone on vihdoin ja viimein siisti. ("Pääset katsomaan Hanni & Nanni 3 -leffaa vain, jos huone on siivottu.") Esikoinen varasi heti itselleen talon pienimmän makuuhuoneen, johon mahtuu vain juuri ja juuri kaikki tarpeellinen. Ripustettavia vaatteita tosin täytyy säilyttää pikkusiskon vaatekomerossa. Ikkunalla on pitkä rivi kummitädin lahjaksi antamia Iittalan Kivi-tuikkuja ja lattialla on meidän makuuhuoneessamme aiemmin ollut Tikaun matto. Kirjahylly saisi olla isompikin, mutta seinässä oleva ulkonema haukkaa ikävästi seinätilaa. Lokerikko pitäisi vielä ripustaa seinälle magneettitaulun viereen ja kissapiirustus on tarkoitus kehystää seinälle. Leluja kohta 11-vuotiaan huoneessa ei juuri enää ole, mutta muita aarteita sitäkin enemmän.

Ricattare e minacciare le figlie funziona sempre e ora anche la stanza della primogenita è finalmente messa in ordine. ("Puoi venire a vedere il film Hanni & Nanni 3 solo se la stanza è in ordine.") Lei ha scelto subito la camera da letto più piccola della casa dove entrano appena appena le cose più importanti. I vestiti da appendere li deve tenere nell'armadio della sorella. Sulla finestra ci sono tanti portalumini Kivi di Iittala, regalati dalla madrina. Il tappeto di Tikau era prima nella nostra camera da letto e ora è stato spostato qui. La libreria è un po' più piccola ma la forma della parete non permette averne una più grande. Dovremmo ancora appendere il cassetto del tipografo e il disegno del gatto dovrebbe essere incorniciato. I giocattoli non interessano più la nostra ragazzina quasi undicenne ma gli altri piccoli tesori sono tanti e importanti.

Bribing and threatening children always works and now our older girl's room is finally all tidied up. ("You can't come to see the film Hanni & Nanni 3 if your room is still messy.") She chose immediately the smallest bedroom of the house where you can just fit the most important pieces of furniture. The clothes that can't be put in the drawers are in her sister's wardrobe. All the Iittala Kivi votives on the window sill are gifts from the godmother. The Tikau carpet used to be in our bedroom but now it has moved here. The bookshelf is a bit small but there's no space for a bigger one because of the shape of the wall. The type case should still be attached to the wall and the cat drawing is waiting to be framed. Our almost eleven-year-old is not interested in toys anymore but she has lots of other small stuff and treasures that are really important.

Tuomisia

Pyörähdys Suomessa on taas tehty ja tuloksiakin saatiin aikana. Kuvia seuraa, kunhan saan ne valikoitua ja järjestettyä. Tässä sen sijaan näkyy, mitä matkassamme kulki Saksan suuntaan - sisustuslehtiä ja Iittalan Glow-tuikku, joka jäi minulta aiemmin ostamatta ja jonka nyt löysin Tampereen Stockalta.Thomas Sandellin suunnittelema Glow'han on poistunut valikoimista eikä sitä enää saa juuri mistään. Näiden lisäksi laukussa oli myös lastenlehdet Koululainen ja Hello Kitty, muutama kirja, iso kasa xylitolpastilleja ja -purkkaa ja karjalanpiirakoita, joita varmaan aika moni muukin raahaa ulkomaille. Sen sijaan Kristan ja Jonnan uutta kirjaa 12 X koti en harmikseni saanutkaan mukaan, sillä sitä oli tulossa Akateemiseen vasta seuravana päivänä. Nyt sitten täytyy kai tilata kirja tai malttaa odottaa seuraavaa reissua.

Siamo tornati dalla Finlandia dove siamo riusciti a fare molto. Farò vedere un po' di foto quando le avrò sistemate e ordinate. Qui sotto invece si vedono un paio di cose che abbiamo portato in Germania, cioè riviste di arredamento e il portalumino Glow di Iittala, disegnato da Thomas Sandell. Glow è fuori produzione e non si trova più facilmente e sono contenta che sono riuscita a trovarlo ora. Nella valigia c'èrano anche un paio di riviste per bambini, alcuni libri, tanto xilitolo e karjalanpiirakka, crostate salate di riso che sicuramente tanti finlandesi portano all'estero. Invece non sono riuscita a trovare il nuovo libro di Krista e Jonna che si intitola 12 X koti (12 X casa). Era esaurito alla libreria dove sono andata prima di partire e ora lo devo ordinare o aspettare il prossimo viaggio.

We're back from Finland where we really made big progress. I'll show you some pictures as soon as I get them sorted out and organized. Here you can see some of the things we took back to Germany, lots of interior design magazines and Glow votive holder by Iittala, designed by Thomas Sandell. Glow is no longer in production and thus not very easy to find anymore. We also had a couple of children's magazines, books, xylitol products and Carelian rice pies in our suitcases. Instead I couldn't find Krista's and Jonna's new book, 12 X koti (12 X Home), since the bookshop I visited before leaving was going to have more copies only the next day. I guess I'll have to order it or wait for the next trip.
