(FI) Pari päivää sitten kaivoin esille kaikki meidän lampaantaljat. Vanha safarituolikin on nyt puettu talviasuun, ja täytyy sanoa, että lampaantalja parantaa huomettavasti sen istumamukavuutta. Tuolin viereen päätyi vähän ylimääräiseksi jäänyt pikkupöytä, joka oli aiemmin olohuoneessa kukkapöytänä. Erillistä lukuvaloa tuohon ei onneksi kaipaa, sillä suoraan yläpuolella on hyvän valon antava yleisvalaisin. Siis sikäli onneksi, että muuten sähköjohto kulkisi keskellä lattiaa. Uutta kaunista lukuvalaisinta vastaan minulla ei tietysti olisi mitään ;)

(IT) Un paio di giorni fa ho tirato fuori tutte le pelli di pecora. Ho vestito la sedia safari per l'inverno e con la pelle di pecora è anche molto più comoda. Accanto alla sedia c'è un tavolino che e rimasto senza uso, prima si trovava in soggiorno accanto alla poltrona. Una lampada da lettura non serve qui per fortuna, visto che direttamente sopra c'è una lampada che da una buona luce diffusa in tutta la stanza. Dico per fortuna, perché non vorrei avere un cavo elettrico che passa per terra. Una nuova lampada da lettura invece non mi dispiacerebbe affatto ;)

(EN) A couple of days ago I took out all our sheep skins. I dressed the old safari chair for winter and with the sheep skin it's also much more comfortable.  Next to the chair there's now a small table that used to be in the living room but isn't needed there anymore. Luckily we don't need a reading light for this place since there's a pendant light straight above and it gives a very good light to the whole room. I say luckily because I would hate to have an eletric cord in the middle of the room. Otherwise I wouldn't mind a nice new lamp of course ;)

Perintötuolin tarina

(FI) Joskus joutuu luopumaan jostakin rakkaasta esineestä muuton vuoksi. Näin kävi tämän sveitsiläisen Wilhelm Kienzlen suunnitteleman safarituolin omistajalle, ja vaikka tilanne on sinänsä ikävä, minulle se oli tällä kertaa onnenpotku. Kaikki alkoi siitä, kun löysin viime viikolla netistä monta viikkoa vanhan ilmoituksen myytävästä safarituolista, joka sijaitsi naapuriosavaltiossa ja ihan inhimillisen hakumatkan päässä. Vaikka olin aika varma, että tuoli on jo mennyt, lähetin kuitenkin viestin ja tiedustelin tilannetta. Seuraavana päivänä sain vastauksen, että tuoli olikin vielä myynnissä. Kun kysyin, sopisiko nouto seuraavana sunnuntaina, kävi ilmi, että tuolin omistaja oli muuttamassa jo lauantaina toiselle puolelle Saksaa. Niinpä hyppäsimme miehen kanssa perjantai-iltana autoon ja lähdimme noutamaan viime hetkellä aarretta pienestä rannikkokaupungista. Perillä iäkäs omistaja kertoi perineensä 50-luvulla valmistetun tuolin omalta isältään, joka seilasi meriä purjelaivalla. Uudessa asunnossa tuolille ei vain ollut tilaa, joten siitä oli pakko luopua. Niinpä tiikkirunkoinen tuoli pääsi meidän auton takakonttiin ja on nyt kunniapaikalla olohuoneessa. Pientä kunnostusta tuoli kaipaa, sillä yhdessä tiikkiosassa on halkeama, joka täytyy liimata. Aion myös hioa puuosat kevyesti ja öljytä ne tiikkiöljyllä. Nahkaosille on tarkoitus kokeilla satulasaippuaa, jonka pitäisi puhdistaa nahka tehokkaasti mutta samalla hoitaa sitä. Joka tapauksessa tuoli on minusta aivan ihana ja vielä ihanamman siitä tekee se, että sillä on tarina.

(IT) A volte bisogna liberarsi di qualcosa di caro per un trasloco. Ciò è successo al proprietario di questa sedia safari progettato dal designer svizzero Wilhelm Kienzle ma anche se è anche una situazione triste, per me è stato un colpo di fortuna. Il tutto è cominciato quando ho trovato la scorsa settimana su internet un annuncio, pubblicato già varie settimane fa, su una sedia safari, che era da prendere da non troppo lontano. Ero sicurissima che la sedia fosse già venduta ma ho deciso di mandare un messaggio e chiedere lo stesso. Il giorno dopo mi è arrivata una risposta che diceva che la sedia era ancora disponibile. Quando ho chiesto se la potevamo andarla a prendere la domenica, ho saputo, che il proprietario avrebbe traslocato sabato dall'altra parte della Germania. Venerdì sera io e mio marito siamo quindi partiti in macchina per prendere questo pezzo raro all'ultimo momento da una cittadina sulla costa. Una volta arrivati lì, il proprietario anziano ci ha raccontato di aver ereditato la sedia fabbricata negli anni '50 da suo padre che era marinaio. Nella nuova casa non c'era purtroppo spazio per la sedia quindi la doveva per forza vendere. Abbiamo messo la sedia nel cofano della macchina e ora ha un posto d'onore nel nostro soggiorno. La sedia ha bisogno di un po' di restauro perché nel legno di teak c'è una piccola spaccatura che dovrò incollare. Ho anche intenzione di levigare il legno leggermente e oliarlo con olio di teak. Le parti di pelle le penso di pulire con sapone per sella che dovrebbe pulire bene ma anche curare la pelle. In ogni caso io trovo la sedia bellissima e mi piace ancora di più per la sua storia.

(EN) Sometimes you have to get rid of some treasured possession when you're moving. That's what happened to the owner of this safari chair by Swiss designer Wilhelm Kienzle but even though the situation is a bit sad, for me it was a stroke of luck. It all started last week when I found online an ad, published already some weeks earlier, on a safari chair for sale not too far from our home. I was pretty sure that the chair was already sold but I decided to send a message and try my luck. The next day I got a reply saying that the chair was still available. When I asked if it was possible to fetch the chair on Sunday I heard that the owner was moving on Saturday to another part of the country. So Friday evening I drove with my husband in the very last minute to take the chair from a small town on the coast. Once we were there the elderly owner told us that he had inherited the chair manufactured in the 50's from his sailor father. There was really no space for it in the new apartment so he had to sell it. We packed the chair in our car and now it has pride of place in our living room. The chair needs to be fixed a bit since there's a small crack in the wood that I need to glue. I'm going to polish the teak parts slightly and oil the with teak oil. The leather I will try to clean with saddle soap that should not only clean it but also soften it. Anyway I think the chair is wonderful and even more wonderful because it has a story.
